Faceoff Hockey 2004
Has there been any discussion of this game? I noticed it came out on October 3rd, but haven't noticed any threads on it. It's .400's hockey game.

It's not a career sim, which turned pretty much everyone from here off.

I asked a couple of questions about the solo play features on their message boards but haven't had any type of response yet. There really doesn't seem to be much activity what so ever, at least not in the past 4 or 5 days at any rate.

I'm not sure how to react to that game. It came out with little fanfare and has remained that way ever since. Like FF said, the forum for that game even seems to be relatively inactive. I do think the lack of career play has hurt it's initial sales but if the sim engine is strong it should help a lot with the next version in which they plan to have career play.
The best description that I have heard so far is that it's more of a replay simulation, like the Lance Haffner series.

Ditto. I will hold onto my ducats and wait for EHM:FE to come out. Given that FOF4 and TPF are due out soon and that I have about 4 or 5 games on my shelf I have never played, no need to rush out and buy anything just yet. I really hope EHM:FE is all that it I hope it is. Seriously, if it's CM3 in hockey form, with the same simulation, immersion factor, etc. I'll be happy (see bbor's masturbatory post). I fear that it wont, but that's just me being pessimistic. |

I played the demo once. I did not like the 'play-by-play', but that is not what is most important. The interface seemed too jumbled. They have a good idea, and it will do well for the replay/fantasy hockey sim crowd, but I have not seen anything that convinces me it is worth throwing down $35, when I can continue using my trusty ol' APBA Hockey 4.02 for now and get updated seasons from a volunteer group who does tremendous work putting together freeware season disks.
It's not the game that would even begin to compete with EHM, EHM:FE, or even Dan Ryazansky's old World Hockey Manager. It is for an entirely different market. I don't think bringing them into 400 was the best idea, but then they don't push their business ideas/plans by me for obvious reasons. . The original plans that Ryan had for Power Play Hockey seemed much more inline with the kind of game most people here would have been looking for. He was shutout when the companies split.
