PGA Championship 2000 Golf

Anybody have this game? I _love_ it. Anybody up for a round sometime? The online play is superb, as are all other facets of the game.

Send me an AIM at KNSmith85 if anyone's ever up for a round.

Ive been bitten by the pc golf bug pretty badly recently. i was considering purchasing a game. i played the demo of links 2003 and liked it; assuming you can get extra courses for free im leaning towards getting it (i think it has a designer? maybe?)

does pga champ 2000 have stuff like this? should i get it instead? the last pc golf game i bought was the original links ls.

Just to chime in, the Tiger Woods 2003 game is very good. It's made by the people who made PGA Championship 2000 and it has the same feel and very good graphics and solid physics. The cool part is that it has a career mode where you actually start as an amateur and play your way up to and on the tour.

It also comes wrapped with a course designer. I thought that I heard the Links designer might be better, but I can't remember that for sure. I do like the lay of the land option that allows you to pick a style for the general course area prior to creating holes, this way you don't have to go and create every single hill and slope if you're just creating a fictional course for fun.

I haven't tried the latest one from Links though. I have never been able to get into that series, just no real personality to it.

I second the vote for Tiger Woods 2003. I really like the career mode and would like to see a similar career mode in a number of other games. You earn money by winning events to increase your stats. Once your stats reach a predetermined limit, you move on the next level, where new events/training/opponents/courses open up.

Gran Turismo with this type of career mode would make it even better than it already is. You start out with low stats, a lowly car, and racing on crap tracks. You beat your peers and then move up levels, each progressively harder.

The difference with this career mode is that I do not think that there are ways to cheat (maxxing out stats, importing an F1 car to race against Mini Coopers, etc.).

nothing better than sitting through 200 laps of an endurance race and getting a mini cooper as the reward

I've never played the TW series. I'm a veteran of the original kickass Jack Nicklaus series and the Links series. I reinstalled XP at the beginning of the year, and now my Links 2001 (?) game runs so much SLOWER than it did before, I'm a little befuddled. I'm pretty sure I reset all the options to the way I had them before, and even turned down the quality quite a bit. Thus, I've been thinking about getting a new golf game, but haven't really looked at TW yet.

Can you create computer players in TW and run a tour / season / dynasty? I've been thinking of starting up a new FOFC dynasty, and a golf one is at the top of my list.

GrantDawg, I got TW2002 as part of a EA sports bundle (TW, NHL, FIFA, Madden) at Wal-Mart a month or two ago and it was really cheap. May not be as good as TW2003, but I find it really enjoyable.

I'm a cheap guy, so I'll wait for TW2003 to be available in the bargain bins to buy it...

BestBuy sells TW 2003 for $20, as well as the bundle you mentioned for $20.

To clarify my earlier idea, I'd like to be able to create a whole batch of fake players and play a tour, but I MUST be able to at least have some sort of input on / customization of the player ratings and skills.

Got a better question, can anybody help me get this complete piece of crap to work? I can't get it to show the players on the screen nor the ball, and the trees float in the middle of the air. I have the most recent drivers for my ATI Radeon 8500, and downloaded the patch. EA tech support, as always, completely sucks. Anyone know?

Grantdawg, does your 3D card support Transform and Lighting ? It did the same thing to me on Battlefield 1942 because my old card didnt have T&L. So, if your card doesnt, then I guess you gotta buy a new one then.

Yes it does. This game is supposed to be "optimized" for my video card. That shouldn't be the problem.

It was supposed to be "optimized" for me on BF1942 also, but PGA Championship 2000 Golf should be somewhat more liberal on video card restrictions so yeah, you maybe right on the T and L issue.

Here are a few places I've found...

Notapro's

World ranking system

Wolverine designs

I think you should be able to fine courses within those sites.

Any luck with the install and getting it to work?

www.sportplanet.com/copyrightclub is the shit. Check that out for either PGA 2000 or TW2003.

Uh oh, I just walked in the door with TW2003, and I haven't installed it yet. My computer (and video card) is 3 years old, so I hope it works OK.

I have a laptop, so my graphics card isn't very top of the line...in fact, I believe it to be 16 MB or so. Anyway, how would this game do on the computer.

I prefer gaming on consoles because sports games seem to be optimized for them nowadays. But anyone know how the Tiger Woods game is on the 'Box? I know some people are addicted, but it doesn't seem you could get the same variety on the console for golf. But, then again, with my crappy graphics card, that could be my only hope.

I got it working. I had to download Direct X 9, a new video driver, a new sound driver etc. It still runs way too slow. I had to turn down the graphics, which is pathetic considering I am way above the "recommended" system. If I were you, sooner333, I'd get the Xbox version. I sort of wish I had.

That being said, I am having fun with it playing in "Career" mode. I started by playing in three-click mode because that was what I was comfortable with, but soon learned that "virtual swing" mode is much better. You really feel you have better control that way and it is soooooooo much easier to put. I've only had one 5 put fiasco since switching.

I agree with the new swing mode. I used to be turn off by the old three-click method because I'd once in a while end up with a 7 on a par 3 because of a 4 or 5 putts on the green. It's now much, much better.

That "career" mode got me intrigued. I'll play a little more with TW2002, but it's not totally impossible that I'll go and get TW2003 very, very soon

I rented Tiger Woods 2003 for the Xbox a couple of times, and I finished the entire Tiger Challenge mode. After that, I honestly didn't really feel there was much more to the game. Sure, I could try to win all the tournaments, but given the small selection of courses, I thought it would get repetitive way too quickly. I also had my golfer's attributes maxed out, so there wasn't much to play for in that regard either.

Your mileage may vary, but I got bored with the game a little faster than I had hoped.

I installed it and it worked fine for me. I see you can create computer players, but I still need to figure out how you can create a season with just those players you choose.
