Sim engine vs playcalling
In the playcalling screen (Single-Player), there are no screen routes assigned to WR or TE (except for *one* play in the 5WR). Yet, watching the solevision, you will regularly find screen plays going to the WR or the TE.
So, is the sim engine simply not based on the list of available plays, but rather on more general, differently-functioning concepts of "what is a screen", etc. ? Here's the kicker: -A 100% screen passing offense will still produce targets to the WR/TE if you have that GP in place, and select "Have Coach Run Play" every time. -That makes it seem like the coach is choosing from among the list of plays, according to the GP. -If not, then in a SP game where you run the play-call/scoreboard, you are working with two different engines depending on if you select "Have coach call play" or not. |

This is actually a very good question. I have not played FOF enough to really tell the difference between SIM engine vs. Actual Play calling but I can tell you this. Other companies DO indeed design the SIM engine vs. Actual Play calling differently to one another. Football Pro 99 is a good example of this. I have learned with that game that desigining custom plays have very little impact on the SIM engine in Football Pro 99. I have learned with that game you actually have to play out your games "one by one" in order to have any consistant stats to speak of. I know the early PC madden games and a few other Football games are kinda in the same boat. Football Pro is the only game I can think of that your Custom Plays actually have a direct result in the SIM engine.
I can't speak on Max Football, I never played the SIM engine at all in that game. I just played out my games one by one until the game didn't function on my OS anymore. Anyways, you bring up a good question here with FOF. |
