PC help - How screwed am I?

I first noticed a problem last week when I downloaded the newest update of iTunes (6.0.1). iTunes would not launch after the update. When I tried to restart, it took forever, and I was forced to shutdown manually via the "on: switch. I tried to download Spybot. It kept freezing and wouldn't exit properly; it wouldn't ctrl-alt-del shutdown either, even causing graphics problams where a square in the middle of the screen would refuse to refresh. Now, my DVD burner is just saying that it is a CD-ROM drive only.

WTF

My antivirus says that everything is clean, and AOL spyware only picks up some tracking cookies.

What is happening to my computer?

Uh....I hope you have Windows XP. If this is the case, I would definitely use System Restore (please tell me you didn't turn this off) and go back to the day before you installed Itunes. That should help you out. Crossing my fingers.

If you are not on Windows XP, I don't know what to tell you.

If I were you and you simply cannot solve this problem, buy a new hard drive, load XP on that and then slave your current drive off of it and save your data that way.

Good luck.

Is this going to require a reformat? That would suck.

Did you try going into safe mode and trying system restore?

Dola...
And if that doesn't work, what Dutch is saying may be your only option. But at least if you do it that way, you won't lose any files.
