Many of the Twins hitters are this way strangely enough. Target Field is known as a pitchers park yet the Twins hitters(other than Morneau) all find it easier to hit at home by a large margin. I think Span would have been able to make the adjustment from Target Field to Great American BP just fine

You are probably right. I think the Reds will move Phillips to leadoff, Ludwick to the 4 spot, and Stubbs to 2 after Votto comes back. I think that might go a long way towards solving the leadoff problem for the time being. By the way, did anyone see the Reds rookie C, Mesoraco get tossed last night? He argues balls and strikes (which is know is a no no), but then while he's make a hand gesture about the strike zone, the umpire walks right into the gesture, and goes crazy about being touched. Can we go computers anytime soon for balls and strikes? A lot of these umps are tools.

Neftali Feliz is out for quite while. It was announced that he is going to need Tommy John surgery. And with Dempsey coming in, Oswalt was shuffled to the bullpen.

After a stellar season last year injury-wise for the Rangers rotation, they have been the walking wounded this season.

I couldn't believe it when I saw it and still don't. You're totally right. He walked right into Mesoraco's space and then went off when he got touched. Embarrassing.

I can't believe the Twins held onto Josh flippin' Willingham. 33 year old having a career year, and they are going to hold onto him. Good player and all, but he's already 2 HRs from a career high and about 100 points above his best single-season OPS. Insanity.

I don't like the Snider trade from the Jays' side. I think the Pirates got the better of the deal there for sure.

The medical staff sucks. If he's out for a long period of time, it'll be the second guy that should have been looked at closer than what he was.

Wonder if Billy Hamilton could play second.

Gotta love the Tigers getting completely screwed. Down 4-1, they leave the bases loaded when the game is called due to rain.

I'd think any mistakes he might make in the field would be made up for by him being able to get on base and force pitchers and defenses to respect his speed. Whoever hits behind him would probably benefit from that.

Wow! That Angels-Rangers game will be a candidate for game of the year! That 10th inning was something else!

It was a great game. It was also one of the most frustrating games I have ever watched. And I know that's not just because my team lost. I would guess cartman would agree there were a number of times when he was pretty frustrated with his team, too.

P.S. Note to Callaspo: hey asshole when you know your pitcher is a soft tosser and the hitter (Andrus) is a pull hitter who will almost certainly hit the ball the same way he did last time, just a couple innings before, and that means right down the left field line, do you think maybe now you'll start guarding the damn foul line? Thanks.

Seriously Cincinnati -- it is okay to lose a baseball game every now and then.

It is not cool to play .900 ball when the Pirates have their first competitive team in (literally) 20-years.

It's gotta be the Yankees that claimed him, who else could risk such a contract?

I don't think the Phillies have the guts to just let him go but they'll probably regret it if they don't.

Now, who wants to claim Carl Crawford?

Blanton should do well in a ballpark that's more flyball friendly. I think it's a great pickup by the Dodgers.

If he goes unclaimed, they can decide later on in the month to trade him. At that point, their hope is to get a boatload of prospects. Or, Amaro could be full of shit, and the owner might say........let the Dodgers have him, we're rid of his contract (which I'd do, at this point his contract is ridiculous).

If he cleared waivers they could trade him after Aug. 1. Many teams put the whole roster on waivers just in case and then pull as teams claim. I remember years ago a big deal was made about the Reds putting Griffey on waivers.

Jose Canseco ended up on the Yankees that way too, and they didn't have any room for him. I think they may have just been blocking him from the Red Sox and Blue Jays, and they didn't expect to end up with him. There hasn't been a guy with Lee's contract ever claimed and let go, that would be crazy.

I've been a Dodger fan for 30+ years now, and this is the first time that something like this was ever a possibility. I guess the team is going to be paying some royalty tax.

The Dodgers were prepared to take both starters without flinching at the nearly $100 million owed to Lee.

Wow.

Reds with a nice win tonight over the Pirates. And for those that don't know, Reds announcer Marty Brennaman had his head shaved on the field after the game tonight. Earlier this year he made the statement if they ever won 10 in a row this year, he would do it. Since donations reached $20,000 to the Reds Community Fund this week (in 3 days), he had it done live on the field after the game. After it was all said and done, some children walked out, all bald with shirts on that said "I'm still me", they are from the Children's Hospital here, and all have cancer, or a blood disease causing their baldness. Marty takes his shirt off, and has the "I'm still me" shirt on underneath. Makes me proud to be a Reds fan to see stuff like that happen. His nickname over his career has been "poofy hair pretty boy".

Apparently, Alexi Ogando has had the growth removed from the side of his face. It has been there since last season, but the announcers have neglected to announce this during the broadcasts. It was obviously gone in his save against the Royals tonight.

Growing up as a kid in southeast Indiana, I remember nearly every summer and early fall evening being filled with the sound of Brennaman and Nuxhall on my radio, which was never tuned to any station other than 700 WLW. Loved listening to those guys call the game, especially when the night ended with "This one belongs to the Reds!" I miss it.

My son, who was born about 12 hours after Joe passed bears Joseph as his middle name. Joe Nuxhall was a great guy. Big community guy.
