Stuck in the middle of a constant downpour. Need to come up with a plan today. I have a bunch of stuff that needs to be grilled and no other food plans.

Nice! It pisses my ex off that her family talks to me more than they do to her.

So, working tech support, even remotely from home while my leg is getting better.. you don't have time to sit edown and have a leisurely lunch. If you're on a call,m you're expected to work the call through.. if you're not on a call, that phone could ring at any second.

So I decided to have some pizza rolls for lunch.. to avoid a ton of cleanup, I put aluminum foil over a glass pan (makes cleaning a lot easier)..

So the pizza rolls are done,. and I head over to the kitchen and dump them on the plate.. to save time I put the pan in the sink and in preperation for putting it oun the drying rack, filled it with cold water.

the pyrex pan didn't break.. it basically disintegrated. Thank god it wasn't an explosion, but there was about 200 pieces of glass in the sink.. still hot too.

Luckily I wasn't injured, but.. damn.. I swear there was a couple minutes of "WTF Just happened.. to.. HOLY SHIT that just happened to HOW THE FUCK did that happen"?

I'm getting metal pans from now on

Nice to know I can still commit acts of tremendous stupidity at times.. *sarcasm*

Didn't you ever have a beaker or something explode on you in chemistry class because you took hot ceramic/glass and poured cold water on it? We destroyed an aluminum cooking pot by doing this once: the temperature differential popped off the bottom which was a different type of metal.

That said, Consumer Reports has been on a tear for a year or more, because the companies that make/sell glass cookware in the US have switched to a cheaper process that seems to not stand up to the heat gradients as well. Folks have had some of these explode just pulling them out of the oven.

Aha, found the link: Glass cookware: Consumer Reports

I dislocated my thumb about 6 weeks ago. I know, this comes as no surprise to anyone here.

I just got back from my doc and he used the bad "s" word. Turns out that as a result, I seem to have inflamed the sesamoid bone in my thumb and that hasn't responded to conservative treatments. As such, he gave me an injection today and we'll re-evaluate in 3 weeks.

This is posting here because I had never really heard much of this, but from my Google searching, it appears that I have Turf Toe in my thumb.

It's a damn good thing I'm not a horse.

It really feels like ESPN is trying way too hard to push soccer on the US. It's one thing to show some international games - it's a sports channel, I think that's the kind of thing they should be doing more of - but within the past couple of months they are including soccer scores during Sportscenter on ESPNRadio, putting soccer on the front page of ESPN.com, making sure to include 1 or 2 soccer plays in the tops plays on Sportscenter, etc. It just feels so forced and part of a deliberate attempt to swamp people with soccer so they have to be exposed to it, whether they want to or not. I assume money is dictating the forced increase in coverage, much in the same way that they have decreased hockey coverage because they've got no financial stake in that league's health.

It wouldn't be so bad if they had people with a semblance of soccer knowledge of SportsCenter. Watching them consistently mispronounce names is cringe-worthy.

Not to mention ESPN.com's soccer bloggers/writers are awful.

I love that they're showing more and more Premier League games. Part of this is undoubtedly the huge deal ESPN UK has with the Premier League.

Lovely cap to a fairly annoying day.

Wife goes out to get us dessert. Comes back, sets my chocolate shake of awesome on the garage step to open the door.

Shake tips, my garage is now the recipient of a tasty treat. I, am not.

Ugh. Just had a home appraisal (part of a re-fi). The picture is not a pretty one around here.

We re-fi'd once a few years back, but then the rates tanked and I've wanted to re-fi again, but the value has dropped enough that I'd have to pay PMI. So, no re-fi.

I've been wanting to do a refi, but the lawsuit with the HOA is STILL dragging on, 5 years later. They've decided to appeal to the state Supreme Court, so I still have the Lis Pendens hanging over the title. That just makes it all the more difficult to negotiate the paperwork maze.

It's a re-fi at the end of a balloon'ish note. Basically going to end up saving us close to $200/month by the time all is said & done ... assuming the appraisal at least reaches what we still owe. It should be fine, but having been specifically warned to expect at least a 25% drop in value vs six years so ain't nothing for sure until this comes back next week.

Modem died. Go to Best Buy. Decide to look elsewhere. Got to Walmart and get modem. Get home and see it's a cable modem and I need DSL. Return modem to Walmart. Go to Best Buy and see no DSL modem. I figured it was a long shot as only Walmart had them the last time I bought one. I go to DigitalLink. They are closed. I go to Mejier and they don't have one either. I go back to Best Buy again and get a modem-router combo even though my router is perfectly fine. The good news is my connection flies now.

I'm sure it does. After all, the other half is born batshit crazy, so it helps to be able to occasionally match them.

That depends on what you consider insane. Does someone being a hopeless idealist qualify for being insane?

Installed a SSD into my laptop and I gotta say that the hype is probably warranted. This thing flies now.

Yea. I built a new PC last summer. I put a 64GB SSD in for the OS, Office, and other Apps (like Chrome so the browser opens wicked fast) It's by far my favorite piece of the machine. I actually turn my PC off every night because it literally takes 5 seconds to be up and running. The second the desktop pops up I can browse the web. The windows search feature is instant as well.

An SSD is one piece that can take a machine and make it seem brand new. I'm actually thinking about my next upgrade being a 200+ GB SSD. It would be either that or a new graphic card since they seem to "age" more then other components.
