GAMES OF THE WEEK - 19.05
USA Division II.2
Tallahassee Kiasu v. Airborne Penguins (8715) 4-1
The Penguins sit in 5th place with 6 points, a mere 3 points out of a first place tie between Kiasu and arabia. Kiasu are coming off a 5-nil drubbing away at Tombstone Titans, while the Penguins suffered a 3-1 defeat at home against arabia.
Attendance - 70283
Kiasu 3-4-3
Penguins 3-5-2
Penguins' possession - 48%,47%
The Penguins started off the scoring with a goal by Per Einarsson in the 6th minute. Kiasu equalized quickly after a defensive error, Peter Larsson scoring in the 10th minute. There was very little action until the second half when Roger Thorstensson broke through the central defense and put Kiasu up 2-1. Jurek Kacperski was cautioned in the 59th for Kiasu, something about the linesman ancestry. 74 minutes in, Kiasu made a bid to seal the game up, when Peter Larsson broke through the right hand side and put Kiasu up 3-1. Kiasu then pulled back to defend. An immediate counterattack put them up 4-1, this time it was Elias Lopez Aguilar who crashed though the defense.
The Penguins managed to hold on to 5th place after the loss, but they are now well back of those at the top.

USA Division IV.40
MoKan Mighty Bastards (70338) v. Fut Up Your Arse 1-1
This match would qualify just for the names. The Bastards sit in a three way tie for second point at 7 points, 1 short of first. The Arse are at 4 points, in the first relegation slot. This would seem to be a pretty tight division. The Bastards are coming off of a 4-1 away win against fellow second place team Rockets FC, and the Arse drubbed the cellar dwelling Physics Ninjas 5-1.
Attendance - 16000
Bastards 3-5-2
Arse 4-4-2
Bastard's possession - 70%,72%
Danny Sa almost put the Bastards up in the 2nd minute, but struck the shot just wide. Arse's Kim Hagstrand was injured and taken off in the 9th minute. Bastard's Corey Roe was cautioned in the 16th minute for taking a dive. Neal Rice opened the scoring for the Bastards in the 23rd minute when the Arse's right side defense fell apart. Later, in the second half, Arse equalized in the 52nd minute when Bengt Akesson charged through the middle of the pitch and scored. The Bastards should have went back in front in the 66th minute on a wonderful cross, but no one could punch the ball home. Lars Bengtsson was carded for Arse in the 68th minute.
A very distressing draw for the Bastards. They fall to 4th place, but still look to be contenders if they can turn their luck around.

USA Division IV.43
North County Raiders (70913) v. North Carolina Tarheels 3-1
The Raiders have managed only 1 point per game thus far, which puts them in a tie for 5th, 1 point ahead of the Tarheels for the first relegation spot. Obviously a big game for the Raiders if they want to stay in D4. Both sides lost by 2 goals last week, the Raiders 3-1 on the road, the Tarheels 4-2 at home.
Attendance - 21000
Raiders 3-5-2
Tarheels 4-4-2
Raider's possession - 62%,61%
Raiders went up 1-nil on a goal by Sam Albrecht in the 14th minute. Rueben Spurlock was cautioned after a foul soon after. In the 29th minute, the Raiders were a serious threat to go up another goal, but Jay Potter shut them down in goal. Carolina had a chance to equalize in the 49th minute when Raiders goaltender strayed off his line, but the lob from Keith Downey missed the goal. The Tarheels equalized on a penalty in the 55th minute, scored by Clinton Proffitt. The fans were out of their mind with the call, raining down debris to the field. Raiders reclaimed the lead in the 72nd minute when Burton Cagle expertly took a long pass and sent a half-volley just under the cross bar. 3 minutes later, the Raiders had had enough, and went up 3-1 when Dave Summer blasted through the middle and scored.
A big win for the Raiders. Now solidly above the relegation zone, they can begin to threaten the top half of the table.

USA Division IV.46
Calibiri (8598) v. Braeur Football Club 3-1
Two FOFC players have big games in this tight division. Calibiri are tied for first place with 9 points, while Braeur are part of a 5 way tie for third at 6 points. Calibiri were on the road last week, punishing The Losing Rejects 5-nil, while Braeur lost at home to Alexandria Arsenal 4-1.
Attendance - 13500
Calibiri 3-5-2
Braeur 3-5-2
Calibiri's possession - 64%,80%
Early on, Braeur's John Tovar made a spectacular save on a shot by Aleksandar Kezman. In the 20th minute, Steven Collins was carded for a studs first challenge. In the 27th minute, Leif Thornflod flew down the wing and crossed to Walker Peak who stuffed it home, and the visitors went up 1-nil. Not to be outdone, Florian Ledbetter equalized with a well placed header in the 30th minute. Calibiri got another big break in the 33rd minute when Steven Collins proved to be an idiot and recieved his second card, and off he went. The break was not without its downside, as the goal scorer, Aleksandar Kezman was injured in the incident. Calibiri went up 2-1 in the 37th minute when Lindsey Galvan galvanized the home crowd with impressive skill and put one home. Calibiri appeared to take over when the second half started. John Tovar kept the visitors in the game as best he could. However, he was completely beaten in the 53rd minute, but Lindsey Galvan put the ball in the stands, rather than in the back of the onion bag. Braeur's Joey Smart was carded in the 53rd minute, and then, in the 55th, Calibiri finally increased the lead to 3-1 when Ronny Boston punched one home. Unbelievably, Joey Smart was booked again in the 80th minute, and Braeur were down to 9 men. Calibiri smelled blood in the water, and Florian Ledbetter almost put another one in, but his header was tipped away from the goal.
With this win, and a loss by Raiders FC, Calibiri are alone at top of the table. Well Done!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fairfax Admirals (71139) v. Eldersburg Town Eagles 0-7
These two squads are at the bottom of the five way tie for third, with Fairfax in the relegation spot on goal difference, and the Eagles just above. The Admirals were blanked 5-0 nil away versus the Raiders FC last week, while the Eagles eeked out a 1-0 win at home against the wicked smurfs.
Attendance - 7540
Admirals 3-5-2
Eldersburg 3-4-3
Admirals' possession - 38%,31%
Things did not start out well for the Admirals. In the 5th minute, a mistake by the central defense allowed Julio Lopez Alfonso to open the scoring for the Eagles. Just over half an hour in, the score had ballooned to 4-0 for the Eagles, and this reporter was off to the bar.
Well, what can I say? Still in a tie for sixth place, they are in the relegation zone on goal difference. Let's hope they can recover from this spanking and hang on their D4 spot.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
USA Division IV.51
Racoons (8546) v. World Beaters 0-6
The Racoons definitely need some love. Pointless in league play this year, their only comfort is they have company, although the goal difference has them at the bottom. The Beaters are in 6th place with 4 points, so a win here would give Racoons a boost in their quest to stave off relegation. The Racoons lost last week on the road to 2nd place Flinthills 3-0, while the Beaters squeaked by 7th place Izzies 2-1 at home.
Attendance - 4841
Racoons 4-3-3
Beaters 3-5-2
Racoons' possession - 23%,13%
This one was all Beaters through 34 minutes. Goals by Nicholas Train, Zenaido Suarez-Guanes, Ramono Onland had made the score 3-0. Amazingly enough, another reporter was on his way to the bar.
Well, with nine weeks to go, they aren't dead yet, but it sure seems like it will be pretty unlikely that the 'coons will be able to stay up in D4.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
USA Division V.1
Darkies v. Bull Dogs (8421) 2-3
These two teams are one-two at 9 points a piece, tied with two other teams at 9 points. 'Nuff said. The Dogs managed a 1-nil victory at home last week against 3rd place snizzle nizzle a drizzle (shouldn't they be fined 10 grand a week until they change that?), while the Darkies got punked 5-1 at the home of 4th place rivendell striders.
Attendance 13114
Darkies 3-4-3
Dogs 4-5-1
Dogs' possession - 71%,77%
Early on, the Darkies went up 1-nil when Desmond Gilyead blew past the defense. There was quite a flurry in the 32nd minute, as the Dogs nearly equalized, but Darkies goaltender Garrett Jansen was made of stern stuff. The Dogs lost Ulrik Gunnarsson to what appears to be a bad foot injury. Still in the 32nd minute, the Darkies could have increased their lead when Norman Herbert charged through the middle, but his shot clanged of the post. Sam Branham of the Dogs was cautioned in the 37th minute for a tantrum directed at the referee. The second half started quickly, as the Darkies equalized in the 47th minute when Owen Albarella took advantage of the central defense. Albarella almost sent in a second 5 minutes later, but Garrett Jansen managed to tip the ball aside. Perhaps frustrated with not scoring again, Albarella was cautioned for studs first tackle. Darkies finally did take the lead in the 67th minute, as Don Langford nailed the header from Ronald Uribe's corner kick. The Dogs were having none of this however, as they immediately equalized by a goal from Gigel Ghenea. In the 82nd minute, the crowd was stunned as Gigel Ghenea traipsed through the central defense and scored a go ahead goal, going up 3-2.
What a comeback! The win knocks one of the teams down, but there is still a 3-way tie at the top of the division.
