Quick question about getting clowns... is there any way to find one up for transfer other than checking each and every player on the market? I found that tedious and not fruitful.

hehe.. Nope, thats how ya do it. :) and if HP United starts bidding on the one your after just concede your not getting him. ;) but push him up to 40k.. I'd never pay more than 10k for a clown, but I know how far he'll go and make damn sure if I'm not going to get my guy that I'll cut into his profit margin.

well you can easily find a clown if you go to the Global Transfer conference, but you will have to pay market value for them (around $65k), and trying to find one the hard way of checking every single player I just went and bought 1 for market value....

$65k is quite a bit for a newer team isn't it? If it's going to cost that much to get a clown, I would recommend not getting one. Clown's really aren't that useful or important. Saving the money and buying a better player would help your team alot more.

Paying 65k for for what tends to be a non-player/b-squadder is out of the question for me. Heck, as it is I'm only using a pseudo clown I picked up for 1k as I had the misfortune of crossing paths with HP united on players 3 times. I'd never actually pay over 10k, but seeing as he sells them for a flat fee of 74,500 I push the price up on him once I see him start bidding.

My best "clown" hunting technique so far is to do a market by market search setting my top asking price at 5k (sometimes 10k if I go through without any finds or am bored.) I'll run through all the markets rather quickly with the 2 hour till deadline filter and only really search the first page on this pass. After a while you enter a zen like state of clicking the players name then hitting backspace to page back with your eyes catching the world "popular" at a glance.

The first pass usually takes me about 15 or so minutes. This is more a pass to quell my paranoia that I'm always going to just miss a player deadline on a really good find.

After that I'll go back and set the filter to "for the day" and go through the markets again, and hit all the pages. This pass can take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and usually involves many rum&cokes and smoking the peace pipe (Which sometimes results in accidental bids.. :) Hence my current Sympathetic pseudo clown.. But I did only pay 1k for him.)

Like I said, daytrading, or even finding a good deal on a clown is a pain in the butt. Sad thing is, its pretty much the same way I search for any player and why I don't do the transfer thing often. But its kept me out of debt while fielding a decently competitive team and having a full staff and decent sized stadium early.

Another quick team leader question then - can your coach be your team leader or does it have to be a player?

No, your coach can not be the team leader. Your team leader must be a player.

I don't think it has ever been proven if the coach can or not. I have seen that debate come up several times and it never really gets decided.

At the same time, a clown is a one-time only purchase. 65k IS alot, but if you have that much around, I don't think a clown's a bad purchase. Not like you'll have to buy another one...ever.

(As for me, I bought a clown my 1st season, which was ummmm 6 seasons ago. Swedish and cost for 40k. He was my starting wing for 4 seasons, and now is 36 years old. Even at 36, he STILL gets 2.5* for me, as I play him in Cup matches. It's a nice bonus to have a clown that's USEFUL too :))

My clown is also a current starter and my team captain (striker Johannes Henriksson). I don't plan on ever letting him go, even after I'm done using him as a player.

This is the reason I decided to upgrade and get a full clown (I had a semi-clown before) when I got some cash a few weeks ago, I figured it was something I only had to do once. Also, my clown is a passable forward so he is starting for me, and i picked him up for $85k.....I think they are good purchases since they basically stay with your team forever.

This is going to sound really stupid. I must have missed the boat on Clowns, and really have no idea what one is or why I would want one. Could someone fill me in on this, please?

A clown is a popular/solid player. As long as you have no other players with solid leadership, this player will help team spirit. How much he will help depends on who you ask.

They don't really help it. The only time a clown really comes into effect is when you MOTS or PIC. When you MOTS, it will help your team spirit rise a bit more quickly. And when you PIC, it will help keeper your team spirit from falling slightly.
