We're back to the tournament after a weekend break. Hope you all enjoyed your days off. The first round continues with the first matchup to determine a second round battle.

In the Eaglesfan27 region, #8 House and #9 Friends will do battle to determine who gets the honor of facing juggernaut #1 seed Seinfeld in the second round.

House
Medical character dramedy began in 2004 on Fox and is in the midst of its 6th season. It won the 2005 Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series and the 2008 Emmy for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series, along with the 2006 and 2007 Golden Globes for Best Lead Actor in a Television Drama series.

Friends
A NYC-based sitcom that ran 10 seasons from 1994-2004 on NBC. The show was nominated for 63 Emmys in the course of its run and won 6, including the 2002 Outstanding Comedy Series nod. Also won the 2003 Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy.

In the Izulde region, #3 seed Lost takes on the #14 seed Monday Night Football.

Lost
Tropical island survivor drama is one of the rare ABC entrants in the field to this point. It will conclude its 6th and final season in late May having captured an impressive 6 Emmys in 12 nominations in the last 5 years, including the 2005 Outstanding Drama Series award, the same year it took the Best TV Series - Drama Golden Globe.

Monday Night Football
This iconic American sports institution needs no introduction. From 1970-2005, it was on ABC, before switching to ESPN in 2006, where it currently resides. In recent years, MNF has developed a Spanish and a Portuguese broadcast version for ESPN's Latin America affiliates, helping to broaden the NFL's base.

The Solecismic region highlights #5 seed Sports Night against #12 seed Freaks and Geeks,in what just might be an upset special.

Sports Night
ABC sports news show sitcom lasted just two seasons, from 1998 to 2000. Despite that short run, it was nominated for 8 Emmys and a Golden Globe and won 3 of those Emmys, including the 1999 Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.

Freaks and Geeks
Like Firefly a single season show who had unreleased episodes that fan demand led to the ultimate release of on DVD. A 1999 NBC show, it was produced by Judd Apatow, who later went on to movie stardom. Nominated for 3 Emmy awards, it won the 2000 Outstanding Casting award.

And finally, in the Pumpy Tudors region, #6 seed Married With Children against #11 seed Dr. Who

Married with Children
The first primetime series to air on Fox, it ran 11 seasons, from 1987-1997 and currently holds the longevity streak on the network. Although it was nominated for a handful of Emmys and Golden Globes, it failed to capture a single win, suggesting that its placement here is more a result of its mass popularity than any critical acclaim.

Dr. Who
Longest running sci-fi series in world history, this BBC show ran from 1963-1984, then from 1986-1989, before starting again in 2005. Despite that long stretch, it has only been nominated once for the BAFTA Drama Series, although it has numerous awards in lesser categories.

Interesting matchups in two short shows going against each other and two popular, but not necessarily critically acclaimed television shows.

Lost may be the first big favorite to go down.

Yeah, MNF is a show that many people here watch but either wouldn't think to nominate it or wouldn't place it in their all-time top ten.

A couple of close matchups and a couple of poundings early. But wow, I wasn't expecting MNF to put an early assraping on Lost. Be interesting to see if that holds up tomorrow.

I'd vote for MNF but whats the point when the title will surely be taken away what with them paying their players and all.

House vs. Friends is an epic 8-9.

Another BS show. It's football, just because it's on Monday night doesn't make it special. JJ Abrams is getting the second shaft in the tournament!

My dislike of Friends and SportsNight made those two matchups easy (though I'd vote for House against most competition in any event).

I already kind of regret my MNF vote....

MNF = George Mason

For me, MNF stands in this tournament for "football on television," which, over the course of my life, is one of the most entertaining things that television has done for me.

I'm a fan of Friends, moreso now then when it originally aired because I think the rewatchability in syndication has been pretty strong.

I like House...maybe once or twice a month. Not knocking the people who do, but I'm not sure how anyone could watch it every week when it follows the same pattern for every episode.

Logan nailed it, House is by far the most formulamatic show on TV, I am amazed it has lasted this long, speaks volumes about Hugh Laurie (sp?)

I am a fan and voted House, but I can see why others wouldn't.

I voted for House b/c I was really, really into it when I was into it, if that makes sense. But it was close.

I think that Friends gets a bit of a bad rap. It lasted too long, IMO. If it had ended with Chandler and Monica's wedding, I think that it would have a better overall reputation. The characters became a little bit of self-parody at the end b/c I think that the writers had just exhausted what they could do with them.

And he was on Friends (with his real accent).

He really is an awesome actor.

BTW, I voted for MNF...I've never seen Lost and have a general lack of appreciation for it because I feel like so much of the on-the-fly stuff that I've heard they do is a huge cop-out. But I wouldn't have voted for MNF over any of the other shows within the poll besides Dr. Who, which I've never seen.

It is a tough draw for Lost. The vote is going precisely the other way on the Front Office Lost Central board.

Lost was pretty much set up to fail here, given the audience.

I don't know... Freaks and Geeks isn't getting blown out by Sports Radio. I'm actually a bit surprised Lost is losing to the degree it is. I figured it might be close at best, given Lost's popularity.

I loved the first season, especially the episode "Walkabout" was just great damn television. It went downhill after that and I lost interest.

The two biggest matchups in my mind, right next to each other in this round (yeah, I'm talking about House-Friends and Lost-MNF).

House vs. Friends is an epic 8-9.

Indeed. I had to vote for House in the end, simply because of the dreck that the end of Friends turned out to be. Of course House hasn't hit its end quite yet, so anything could happen and things can change.

There are a significant number of ballot abnormalities in this election -- we may need to get Jimmy Carter to oversee this and/or get a judge to determine hanging chads.

F&G and Sports Night (not radio) were very similar though, as short-lived shows with a cult following. I think if more people either knew who was involved in F&G or just saw an episode and recognized some of the actors, it would be running away with it.

I'll get the next bloc up tomorrow.

I'm kind of surprised by the House-Friends result. I thought Friends had a good shot of winning but not by this much. I never considered Friends to be a great TV show. Just a good one for a long time.

This has been my least favorite results show so far. I'm considering turning the channel or going out for a change without even setting my tivo.
