Anyone play this for PS2 yet. The spring training mode interests me but everytime I go to Blockbuster the game is rented.

989 studios? AIEEEEE RUN.. FLEE IN TERROR! SAVE YOURSELF WHILE YOU STILL CAN!

In all seriousness, 989 studios have put out some of the most unplayable, bug ridden, graphically inferior crap that I've ever seen

I would suggest MVP 2003 from EA. I am really enjoying this game. Can't comment too much on the franchise mode, as I have been playing out my games and have only made it through 13 games. Its not the most in depth franchise, as it has an inactive roster instead of minor leagues, but overall it is definetly the best baseball game I have played.

World Series Baseball 2k3 is the best of the bunch. Good graphics, solid game-play, and a nice, deep franchise mode.

The only thing I find scarier than a .989 Sports Title, is the fact that people actually buy these titles year after year...think about that one for a few.

The reviews I'd read seemed to indicate .989 sports is making improvements but I don't know if they're up to snuff just yet.

Is the world series baseball series out for PS2 yet? I've been waiting on that one before deciding which to buy.

Yep, came out last Friday. I've been renting most of them to see which one I want to buy. WSB 2k3 takes the cake easily.

What's your user name? "Cuckoo" That statement is cuckoo! :)

WSB takes the cake? That's a matter of opinion, sir. I think MVP is a blast to play, plus you don't have to spend hours adjusting sliders. WSB has the best franchise mode, I'll give it that, but that's why I have ootp5.

Rent them all and decide for yourself.

You betcha. That's exactly what it is.

So, out of the box, you feel that MVP is a more true to life gaming experience? Wow, we must have REALLY different tastes in what we like in a baseball game.

It definitely has the best franchise mode, although I like the fact that High Heat has three levels of minors instead of just one. There won't ever be one as deep as OOTP5 for managerial aspects, but WSB is more than solid in all areas. It doesn't have the glaring weaknesses that the other games have.

I wouldn't buy MVP. A friend of mine bought it and was raving about it, so he brought it over the other day. Here is what I thought...

The pitching meter is similar to kicking a field goal in madden. You pick your pitch, and then hit the button to start the meter. It slides to the right, you hit the button again, the when it slides to the left you have to hit the button again for control. As your pitcher tires, his meter range changes and it's harder to control. Each individual batter also has their own hot/cold zones in the strike zone.

We played a game as the A's vs the Cubs. He had played a a few games already, and it was my first time. He was hitting his spots very well and although I kept making contact, I was hitting routine grounders and popouts, no liners. I attributed this to him being pinpoint with his control. I on the other hand would be slightly off on my control click, so my pitches werent going where I wanted them to, and he was crushing them. It didn't matter where I missed with my pitch, he just kept crushing them. I figured this was because I wasn't putting enough movement on the pitch. After he got a sizeable lead (and I only had 1 hit), I gave up. I still wanted to hit, but I just started grooving the ball down the middle of the plate with no movement on it. The result? It got him out almost every time.

That ruined the game for me right there. Basically if I aimed inside (still in the strike zone) and missed my control so it ended up low and in (yet still in the zone) he would crush it because I missed the spot I was aiming for. Yet if I aimed right down the center of the plate, and put it there, he would fly out to centerfield. What kind of bogus shit is that? It's enough to tell me the hitting/pitching logic was screwy, and I probably won't be playing this one again. Definitely wont be buying it.

High Heat must get my vote as most accurate, although EA's MVP is pretty fun. High Heat has gotten alot of player endorsments, especially pitchers for its accuracy.

Raven I tried that down the middle "Trick" anf got crushed 13-3 by my boy.
MVP is pretty damn good. Most of the complaints revolve around inexperience with the new system EA has used for playing.

Amen.

Again, it's not as deep as HH, WSB, or ASB, but it's fun to play and a surprising job by EA for it's first year post Triple Crap.

..and yes out of the box is much better than WSB, imo. :)

I'm 5 games out of first with the Cardinals on the All-Star level.

Complaints:
Too few K's and HR's by the CPU teams (too few HR's in general, wow did I say that with an EA game?).
Stats are too plain and not enough of them.
You can't tell how much stamina your relief pitchers have until you put them in and see the red part in the pitching meter.
Can't turn off the hot/cold zones for the hitters.

Things I like:
Hr's bounce off various places.
I love the batting/pitcher/fielding interfaces.
Replays are the best, period.
Sound from the crowd is good.
Loading speed is fairly fast.

I rented High Heat, the only one at Blockbuster, MVP was rented, and they didn't have World Series. :( But I am having fun with High Heat. The graphics don't seem all that bad to me, but that's just me. I want to know if there is a way to charge the mound in this version? I like the minors. Havne't gotten through to the off-season, so can't say much about it.
