Week 7 is in the books! The RFL Game of the Week features the reigning champion #1 Ohio State Buckeyes travelling to Happy Valley to take on the #7 Penn State Nittany Lions. I think we can all agree to root for an injury-marred affair! ;)

About to play Va Tech..should be a tough game. They're rated higher overall than we are.

Yep. That 1-5 record looks scary.

Sun,
I'm available every night except tonight because I have a basketball game. Let me know when you're ready for revenge.

VA Tech was tough..I played terribly, but notched a 35-31 victory.

I hate bye weeks.

So nej, what're you doing for yours?

Radii

Huge game this week for us at Miami that could end up deciding the ACC Coastal Division. I won't be able to get to the game until Monday, but I'll definitely be playing it and hope I can come up big vs a top 15 team on the road.

I dont have a bye week in the RFL this week. I have one in the EBFL and I'm playing with myself.

I believe DeTox was belittling your opponent, sir. ;) And I'll just leave that "playing with myself" line alone.

38-21 win, back up to 3-4. Have a decent shot at a bowl game

Minnesota destroys Illinois in Champaign, 24-7. The Illini's only points came on a kickoff return for touchdown. It was a pretty dominating performance by the Gophers. When was the last time you heard that?

Kodos

Wow. I should not have played tonight. Wisconsin just absolutely humiliated us 72-26. Nobody could tackle, Lewis and Chappell combined for 5 interceptions and 2 pick sixes. We just couldn't do anything right. Dropped passes, horrible decisions at QB. Our top 25 streak should come to a crashing end here. I haven't lost this bad with IU to the computer ever. I felt like I was playing with Boston College again.

Well, as it turns out I may be heading home early. I've been in San Diego w/ in-laws since Wednesday. We were scheduled to head home tomorrow afternoon, but we might take off this afternoon (getting in around midnight tonight) leaving me open for most of tomorrow (except when the Niner game is on). Otherwise, my schedule looks like this.

Monday - all the live long day...ideally before MNF.
Tuesday - same

Odd that we're not giving an extra day for thanksgiving...or are we?

I think what he meant by this was, by the time the 4th quarter rolls around it's going to seem like his team didn't even show up.

Excellent news! If you took the week off then Monday during the day (anytime really) would be perfect.

Galaxy, it rained pretty much all day on Thanksgiving, but it's been beautiful since. Yes, I am happy :)

Bignej just took the lead in the 3rd quarter in our game. The speed/talent difference is digustingly obvious in this game. My 81 OVR team just can't compete on the line or on the end. I have these long 15 play drives that result in TD's, filled with 3rd down conversions, and he has these 3 play drives where my guys get burned on every down. It's a bit tiring.

Miami killed me, 30-3. It was close most of the first half, I gave up a 65 yard TD pass with about 35 seconds left in the first half to fall behind 17-3, and couldn't do anything at all the rest of the way. I'm used to losing to teams rated better than me, but only scoring 3... I don't think I've ever struggled this much to score.

Not a good sign with Clemson coming up next week.

Good news though, we got a soft commit from the #3 rated recruit in the nation, a 5* FS whose name I forgot the second I left the recruiting screen, oops :D

Kodos
12-01-2008, 02:00 PM
Sometimes I think there is a momentum factor in this game. The other night, when things starting going wrong against Wisconsin, it just got so that I couldn't do anything right. When I went to my backup QB, things got a bit better.

meh

Sun,
I would love to hear why u lost whatever little respect you had for me . Did I run up the score? Don't avoid a pissing match because you already started it. Almost every play I ran in the second half once I had a 1 TD lead was a run. You were ahead at halftime 21-14. Half the damn plays you ran were left sideline deep user catch. Considering your comments last year after you lost, it appears you are just a big sore loser and that is that. I was looking forward to uploading some highlight and discussing the game. Apparently this is the only way we can discuss it. Someone insinuating I play dirty and then "dropping it".

Sun Tzu
12-01-2008, 02:20 PM
Nej,

I'm not going to go into all of that. To use an analogy that most would understand, this is like a relationship that ends because of irreconcilable differences. There's no way for us to "talk this out" and come out happy in the end. You would have to completely change the way you approach video game football for this to have a happy ending, and my guess is you aren't going to want to do that. So, I'll go on playing my games and enjoying the RFL, and just alter my expectations for whenever you and I play against eachother.

bignej
12-01-2008, 02:23 PM
That is so vague that it is ridiculous. Make your actual point and then move on. Don't come on and say you lost whatever little respect for me without any kind of specifics. That's not very fair to me.

bignej
12-01-2008, 02:26 PM
Actually if anyone else here that has played me feels that I don't approach the game realistically, I will drop out. I always try to play as realistically as possible, with a mix of run and pass. I don't feel I approach it any differently than anyone else. I feel I run more plays than anyone Ive played(you included). I did not "intentionally" run up the score. I would just like to know what I am being accused of.

My favorite run of the game. I was running out the clock by just running. Penn State takes a linebacker and realistically runs all the way back to the endzone as if to wait for me there. I liked this play that I saved it at two different angles:

Edit: You are right I am dragging this on. Here is what I know. Im pissed because Ive been accused of doing something but nothing specific. I have a better roster including more speed than pretty much everyone I play so I should have an advantage(as shown in the videos also. Chris Wells is a 99 OVR so he should play well and half his long runs you pulled your guys away. On my passes you had no safeties deep and were beat. Your only problem is that you did not win and you are grasping at anything you can. Tell me what those videos tell you.

Nej,

I have lost several times to FOFCers. Most of them coming in exhibition games, but I also lost to Bigsmooth in the Trout Tourney. Please get your facts straight.

I have played all of them and no one complained. If anyone of them comes on here and says I "cheat" I will quit this league. At least they might be man enough to tell me what it was. I think you are being a sore loser but if anyone else agrees with you its very simple. I don't want to ruin the experience for anyone else.

Since I was mentioned publicly, I will say that I thought a few of the rollout throws you did were cheesy Bignej and I mentioned them after the game. I also thought the lack of variety on defense was cheesy. However, I use a mobile QB in the NOFL, and I'm sure people could complain about what I do too. I roll out sometimes and occasionally make stupid throws for big gains. Frankly, I've been disappointing by stuff that I've seen from a few FOFC players. I'm not naming all of the names, however I was disappointed by stuff that I've seen from Sun Tzu as well. I think in part it is due to flaws with the game that can be abused too easily. It's diminished my interest some, but then I remember some great games I've had against guys like BigDPW who plays a very straight up style of game. And I think about some of the others in this league, who I'm fairly sure will be fun to play if I can get ever get them scheduled against me.

Thank you for your input. In my defense I will say that i think I barely ever roll out (twice in my game with Sun and I played you early on in RFL history). You may have exagerrated abit then I thought. I also think I roll significantly less than most of the others on here. As far as the lack of variety on D. I noticed that you were always calling the same offensive play so I continued to call the same defensive play, hence why my backup MLB had 4 INTs.(running a 4-4). Your style im sure has changed as mine has a bit. In my opinion, everyone I have played has a core set of 5-10 plays they continue to go to. It never fails. I have my faves of course.

Now as a man of my word, I will resign from this league. I wish you all the best of luck in the future.

Edit: My QB is Terrelle Pryor and I rolled out WAY LESS than the real thing. Just an FYI.

FWIW, BigNej, some other owners (besides EF27 and Sun) have expressed concerns with your playing style as well. But then again, I've had a complaint about a number of different guys at one time or another. Hell, I'm probably not above reproach either.

It seems like maybe the novelty of online leagues is wearing off a bit for a lot of people. Everybody has their own ideas of straight versus cheese. Maybe that is too much to reconcile with a dozen people?

I think the problem is that is that we are playing college football. A variety of styles, offenses, defenses, and talent (and type) differences.

In the NOFL, I decided to switch to a Texas Tech style offense (with a lot of shotgun, 3/4/5 wife formations) that will see the close to passing play % that you'll see out of that offense. I guess that might draw some complaints.

HA was a clear cheese player (of course, he wasn't very successful at it). Not realistic at all. I just think it's hard at time because you get into playing the game and sometimes you forget about the advantages of the roll-out (I'm sure we are all guilty of this, I know I am).

And that is fair. I honestly feel that I'm being punished for my success. The truth of the matter is that Ive had fun but the last thing I want to do is ruin the experience for anyone else.
I knew when I picked Ohio State they had a great roster. That leads to some lopsided victories. Everyone Ive ever played at FOFC has played has a particular style and runs a small set of plays. They have all developed an offense that works well. The only one where I did not have a huge roster advantage was Eaglesfan27 and USC and he ran the same pass play over and over. Sun throws bombs up the left sideline over and over. My style did not change from the 1st half to the 2nd(only defensively) yet Sun said it was the 2nd half that he lost respect. You know why? That was when he started losing and his rocket catches stopped working. If the final score was any different in these games no one would have complained. I know how emotional people can be when they lose. Sun could not stop the run and that's why he lost. Many people here have shut my run game down. Now I wish if others had a problem, they would have addressed it with me. If there was something questionable and you told me, I could have adjusted. My defensive style has been find something that stops you and stay with it. Sun, EF27 did not change their strategy and once I found a good fit defensively they were done.

Now I have posted how I feel and I stand by it. EF27 said I cheesed and his opinion cannot be wrong and I respect it. Sun never specified. Ive had many great games here and I will remain in my other leagues unless the same thing happens there. I do not want to be the reason for you all not to have fun.

Karl: You will get your chance in the other leagues is nothing else changes.

The rollout I don't really have a problem with. I feel like it can be defended, and if you play it right either you will sack the QB or force enough INT's to turn the game to your favor. EF touched on it perfectly in another thread a while back, where he said there are a handful of plays that you know you have, that will get you X number of yards 90% of the time. Some people may find it's perfectly acceptable to run these plays 80-90% of the time. The arguement that "most people use 5-10 plays all game" is rediculous, and any team in the Pro or College ranks would get blown off the field if they did that. Unfortunately, in video game football that's not the case, and you can run those same plays over and over and score 40+ on anybody you like. Rolling out = fine. Bouncing to the outside = fine. Throwing to the same guy a lot = fine. All of these things are fine in my book, especially since we're playing college ball here. I've said this over and over since we started this whole online dynasty thing. I've been in online leagues that crash and burn, and I've been in ones that have lasted years. The difference is you have to have owners who will do everything in moderation. If you run a Texas Tech style offense and pass 85% of the time...great! Just make sure you aren't calling the same handful of pass plays over and over. I personally don't like to call the same play more than twice in an entire game. If I'm playing a really tough opponnent and he's beating me all over the field, then sure I get frustrated, but I'm frustrated because I don't know what's coming. A great player can work with his entire playbook.

FWIW, I've yet to have a problem with anybody's style. Just have fun and keep in mind this is the college game. I've been amazed at some of the shit I've seen on any given Saturday in the real life NCAA. This new spread offense has blown the doors off of my notions of "realistic football". Christ look at the Big 12. Insane. Also, of course everybody has their own money plays, we are pretty limited by our chosen playbooks in that regard. There just aren't enough plays to really mix it up constantly. The way this game is built, it is pretty easy to pass the ball up and down the field, no matter the talent gap. As long as you don't throw picks, it's all good.

I guess my point is, just fuggin relax and enjoy the competition.

I kind of agree with this.

To me, it's about going for it on 4th downs in situations that aren't realistic.

I don't run the QB sneak now at all because I know that's a pretty cheesy play after learning it about mid-season last year.

I was talking about human players. For instance here are yours. You ran FB dive, HB dive right, a streak up the left sideline(your fave) a 10 yard curl on the left sideline ,a pass to the TE flat on the left and a running back flat on the right. Thats worse than 5 plays that's 4 patterns. Im not saying anyone here(myself included) are that much better but I expect it. I have my faves. You ran the same defense all game and I threw to the same few guys that you were leaving open. Some people shut my TE down so I look elsewhere. You dont adjust and are pissed that your "money plays" stopped working. You were simply upset that you lost.

To note, our kicker missed two extra points (as well as two early field goals) in the final two drivers. The first one would of put us within 6 in the 4th quarter. We got the ball back, and drove down the field with 18 seconds left to score. We are down one. What does the stupid kicker do? Shakes it wide right. (This kicker can't make a simple 25-30 yard field goal at all, either).

Our defense couldn't contain them the BYU offense. Our offense, while they played solid, just started to stall in the second half. Clausen had two fumbles (one for a TD return).

It's frustrating because we should have won the last three games. Our game against UL-Lafayette was a seconds-ending 90-some yard TD strike (they had zero TOs) that we lost on. UCLA was another late, late loss.
