I still think the WNBA is a good thing, and I think it's sad that guys feel the need to take potshots at it. I don't know if it's because they know that every one of those girls could still beat their ass (not mine of course) in 1 on 1 or what, but it's more pathetic than the thing they're making fun of. I'll say this - If my daughter was ever good enough to play in the WNBA, I'd be a proud dad and I guarantee that, if they were honest, the same people that mock the league would be proud too.
I did laugh my ass off at the yeast infection thing though.

You are truly a hip, non-sexist, happening, now kind of guy. But face it, you didn't know who that guy was pretending to be in the video either. :)

I can honestly say that I did. Diana Taurasi is one of the more well-known female basketball players out there.
And yes, I can name almost entire Detroit Shock roster. My daughter loves to watch them when she gets a chance (along with the Pistons).

Dola.
I am sexist in some ways, just not when it comes to sports. I think that occured when I became the dad of a little girl. :)

I'd never heard of Diana Taurasi. I can name about 5 pro women basketballers, and that's because I know 2 personally.

That's kind of funny, I met Lisa Leslie once and to this day, it's still the only one I know. I'm sure she's retired by now, but she was damned near the face of thw WNBA when it got started.

OK, I like watching women's college basketball, but that was still funny.

Oh, I totally agree. I just had to get on my soapbox before this thread inevitably devolves in a macho "haha unskilled lesbians" clusterfuck.

In other news, the Shock just traded away Swin Cash for the 4th pick in the draft. That's a bummer, because she's been the face of the team for a long time.

Always been a big fan of women's basketball since high shcool. Still remember the old Tennessee squads and USC with Cheryl Miller.
I think the WNBA is a good thing. It's always been a shame that women had to go overseas to get love playing professionally. Hopefully, the league will get stronger and be around for awhile.
All that said, I thought that clip was funny.

I haven't seen the video, but I know who Diana Taurasi is. I don't follow women's college basketball at all anymore, but when she was at UConn a few years ago, she was pretty much the closest thing to a star that the NCAA women had. Anyway, the video sounds funny from what I'm reading in this thread. I'll watch it when I get home.

If you watched any women's college basketball during Diana's last 2 years, there's no way you could not know her name. I think the announcers said her name 10 times a minute.
"Great play by #55, but did you see Diana Taurasi make the same play 3 games ago? Simply amazing!"

That was really funny.
True story. It was late one sunday night and Saldana and I had been drinking and betting on football all day. I really wanted to bet more and there was a WNBA game on the Oxegyn network. So not only did I bet on the game but we watched it.

My wife is a Seattle Storm fan, and has been watching this trade develop. The Storm forum that she frequents has been totally up in arms about this trade. I think if you talked to them, they would gladly take that trade back.

Well, Swin certainly has regressed in the past few years, but I guess I just always saw her as Ms. Shock. She was the first "star" player for Detroit, and was the go-to player during their 2004 championship. I'm sure the #4 pick will be nice though.

The problem with the WNBA isn't that it exists, it's that the NBA insists on forcing it down our throats on TV and such.
And of course, the dumb argument that women shoot better. Umm, they use a smaller ball on the same size rim.

The league has lasted a lot longer than I imagined it would. I think it's a good thing, but their season timing sucks. I don't know when else you could do it. But I think the league itself has a marketing problem since it's basically being propped up by the NBA. On the same token, I think it's forward-thinking of them to do it, given that a lot of other sports have basically turned their nose up at women athletes and have the werewithal to at least provide some modicum of support to a top-tier women's league.
It's at least watchable now, though I still prefer women's college basketball over it anyday. When Candace Parker goes to the league, I hope it gets more interesting to watch. But so far, the league has been the place where college stars go to die in the sense that they are no longer on the grand stage.
I think she can transcend that though.

The league has only lasted because it has been artificially propped up by the NBA. If it had to live on it's own merits it would have died out before season one finished.

In high school, I played at the local gyms against Candace Parker on a regular basis.
She dunk'ed on me.
:(
Certainly had an appreciation for women athletes after that experience.
(Waiting for someone to edit my post into something much worse.)
