Franchise Tag

can someone tell me how this works. if i designate someone as my franchise player and then i go to sign him for a 3 year deal, will i not be able to use the franchise tag next year?

In FOF4 you will have the tag to use again next year. I believe there was a bug in 2001/2 that was never fixed that did NOT allow you to use the tag again the next year in that situation

i never had a problem using the tag then signing a player long term in FOF2001

Technically, to be correct, the franchise tag should stick with the player for the length of the contract (if it is signed before July 15th). It's simply easier to make contracts all work the same instead of basing them on a date that most FOF players will bend over backwards to get ahead of anyway. I think that Jim may have tried it one way...and then settled on this one for FOF4. Just speculation, however. :)
