The national anthem (http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003439274) in this year's Super Bowl is especially for you!

You had to open up your mouth!

Prince and Billy Joel. I guess I can officially consider myself old when the SB advertisers have decided that my age group is their dead-on target audience.

No Whitney at her peak; no Rolling Stones from the grave; hell, not even a slightly past-prime U2. Nope, it's early 80s week at the 2007 SB.

Weird. I thought it was all for Leyna.

Anyone seen Joel's daughter, Alexa Ray, or heard her sing? Unfortunately, she's got a bit too much of her father in her looks, but I didn't realize she was already a recording artist.

First time I saw a picture of her, I thought it was a Conan O'Brien "If They Mated" gone bad. Sadly, it was not.

After Sunday night, I now think Brinkley screwed around not only with that snow instructor guy, but also Reche Caldwell (or maybe Caldwell's dad).

I think until he posts again we should actually probably have a watch out for his own safety.

QS doesn't strike me as a "Quick, change the channel - we're going to miss the National Anthem before the Super Bowl!" kinda guy.

However, this does dramatically increase the odds of him becoming a "Quick, change the channel - the National Anthem is about to start!" guy.

How Bill Parcells merits 24 threads of masturbation and this one thread is a travesty of justice.

I am sure Quik's heart will be all a flutter when Mrs. Quik plays this during their romantic Valentine's Day dinner. . .

Joel Returns To Pop with Valentine's Day Tune

http://ia.imdb.com/media/imdb/01/I/49/47/12s.jpg Billy Joel (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005055/) has put his retirement plans on hold to record a new love song for Valentine's Day. The rocker insisted he wouldn't pen anymore pop tunes after releasing his River Of Dreams album in 1993 but the most romantic day of the year has brought him back. His new single, "All My Life," is being released as a download next week on website People.com. The tune will then be sold exclusively via Apple's iTunes Music Store from February 20. In the past decade, Joel has only written classical compositions, although he continues to tour and perform his hits. February is going to be a big month for Billy Joel (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005055/) - he'll perform the US National Anthem at the Super Bowl on Sunday in Miami, Florida.

The NFL really went contemporary with their choice to attract the younger fans.

Define "contemporary."

Do you mean rap artists dressed like thugs and wearing copious amounts of jewelry stomping around a stage "singing" incoherently between getting bleeped out while trying not to trip over their sagging pants?

Do you mean metrosexual "boy" bands comprised of 30 year old men who end up breaking the hearts of 13 year old girls when they come out of the closet?

Do you mean tramped-up divas who wear trashy outfits to keep your attention from the fact that they have no actual musical talent?

Do you mean "country" artists who sing pop songs with a steel guitar accompaniment?

Do you mean reality show contest winners chosen by the likes of Paula Abdul and the millions of sheep who watch a TV show?

That pretty much sums up "contemporary" music. If you asked me, I'd say bring out the fogies... all the new stuff sucks. And get off of my lawn!

I think I mean someone who has released new music in the last oh say 12 years.

Certainly a proper choice can be made that involves something other than a washed up billy joel. He was relevant 20 years ago.

Nothing. But it doesn't make you an expert on good music.

Relative to the contemporary examples I listed above, Billy Joel might as well be John Lennon by comparison.

all I can smell are simple examples of what you deem vile. contemporary does not equal your version of morally bankrupt unless you assign that value to all of contemporary music.

I don't understand what watching a TV show about a singing competition has to do with the artistic integrity of the music they perform.

Aaaaand, here comes the American Idol catfight.

Ksyrup
01-31-2007, 02:49 PM
Not a catfight. I just think the vast majority of people watch the show as a form of entertainment, quite apart from whether they enjoy the music. It's really irrelevant, so I don't need to defend the quality of the music (or lack thereof).

Believe it or not, that's an actual prop from bodog.com.

There's also a ton of wacky props for "who will have more", I'm thinking of taking "total number of Muhsin Muhammad pass receptions" over "Red Hot Chili Peppers total grammy wins". Money in the bank, right?

Has there even been a boy band is the last five years?

I'm sorry, but anyone who posts about how terrible music is these days without making fun of whiny emo bands and used-up divas singing catch phrases into drum machines is hopelessly out of touch.

Please, brush up current trends in crappiness.
