Quick/Stupid Question:

Can you just pay per game, pay per view style? I just want to watch the New England Patriots games, and I am not interested in paying almost $300 to do so. Being how some games will be televised on ESPN/ABC anyway.

No, stupid.

:)

The whole "I only want to see one team's games" doesn't really fly since that's the primary reason most buy the package.

Yeah, I spent the money primarily for the Eagles, but is it really a bad thing to be able to see most of the games? At least I won't get stuck watching any clunkers on Sunday (unless it is the Eagles involved in which case I'll keep watching anyway.)

I live for Sunday Ticket.

Tonight's solo game on NBC is reminding me how utterly unwatchable solo NFL games are. It's more commercials than game. I primarily watch the Saints, but without Sunday Ticket, I would flat out not follow the league at all due to overwhelming commercial overkill.

I'd say the Patriots will probably be on national TV around 6-8 times, if you go to a sportsbar the other 10 weeks, you won't spend 300 bucks, unless you are lush.

thats what a DVR is for...i havent watched a commercial all game...or a huddle for that matter.

Ditto. Also, I just read the schedule this week and the Saints and Eagles are both HD games. Good times, I'll be taping them both and watching them in succession (along with whichever other games look really good.) I think I'll probably watch about 12 hours of Football on Sunday (albeit without commercials so it might only take 7 or 8 hours.) :)

Yeah, I know, everybody tells me that, but I have an obnoxious brain that will not allow me to enjoy taped sports, even if it's under an hour ahead. Besides, I love checking out other games on the numerous commercial breaks.

Yes....Kind of. You can buy individual weeks for around $40 and watch all the games that week.

since when...i have had sunday ticket for about 5 years, and the only sport that ever let you do this iirc was college football, and they stopped about 3 years ago and made you buy the whole season.

They lost a lawsuit which forces them to offer the package on a week by week basis. If you were a Sunday Ticket subscriber during the years the lawsuit covered, you should have been offered some compensation as a result of the class action settlement. Also as part of the settlement, they agreed to offer the package on a week by week basis. They did not agree to advertize or publicize it in any way, and they don't. But, if you call, it is available (and ridiculously expensive).

So I am going to be getting back from church/lunch in about 1 hour or so after the Saints-Browns game starts. Does the non-HD game come on Channel 705 or 720? It looks like 720 is the HD game. However, the description of the game on 705 looks like a soccer game. I don't know which one to TiVo. (Though I suppose that I could cover my bases and TiVo both of them).

Eaglesfan27

According to my TV guide, the game is on 705. What is interesting is that the 720 channel is blacked out for me (expected since I'm in the zone of where the Saints are being shown on local TV, but the 705 channel doesn't show as being blacked out right now.)

Edit: Hmmm, 719 and 720 seem to be missing at all times from my upstairs system. I wonder if they are working downstairs.

Second Edit: For some reason, 719 and 720 didn't appear until Sunday morning, but they did finally appear.

I have to say, watching 2 games at once (bouncing back and forth between them on the DVR - with no commercials or huddles) is just great. I can't wait to watch the shortcuts of the games I'm missing. :)

I'm watching the shortcut of the Bills-Patriots right now, and it is amazing. I love the little stats between quarters. It's amazing to realize how much "dead time" there really is in each game.

i really had a good time yesterday with the interactive content of the Superfan package...you can reduce the game and bring up a 2 inch border on 2 sides of the screen with a scoreboard for all the other games...the blocks turn red when someone is about to score, and you can just select that box and switch to that game....i thought it was better than the game mix..the pictures on that screen are just way too small. it would be better if they did it with 4 games instead of 8

I had to call them right before 1pm because my HD TV only showed the HD games and none of the others, while our other 2 non-HD TVs had the other games. All I had to do with unplug the receiver and it was reset properly.

I was pleasantly surprised with the number of games in HD. I hope that keeps up all season. Until the ends of a couple of the non-HD games (like Ten/NYJ), I didn't even need to switch off the HD games at all.

Is this what they kept advertising on 795? That got annoying quick (the little pop up). I'll have to check it out next time, though.

the channel 795 thing was different, and i only saw it on the game mix channels...i also got annoyed with the popup and generally ignored it, but i think it was so you could set up a little stat ticker for your favorite players.

the thing i was using is not visible at all unless you have an interactive receiver, and you hit the red button...when the scores come up, your screen moves back a couple inches and you can either hit red again to exit, green to bring up stats for the game you are watching along the top of the screen that you can scroll through with your remote, yellow to do something else, or blue to jump to the game mix channels

I tried that out in my other room with a regular D10 box, and thought it was interesting. Are there any plans for an interactive HD-DVR box in the future?

I have no clue what an "interactive receiver" is. Although if I knew, I guess I'd know if I had one.

I didn't either until I was trying to get stuff to work yesterday.

Right now according to Directv's site, it is the D10, D11, and R15 models. Also, according to Saldana, the HR20-700 is interactive. Everything else isn't and therefore cannot do the 9 fantasy player tracking, the stat overlay bonzana, or the full sound switching of the gamemix channels. Or if other receivers can do these things, I cannot figure out how to make them do it.

I know with Tivo we can see up to 5 games max on Sunday ( tape 2 games for early game, tape 2 games for late game and Sunday Night game)

But whats the point when we already know the scores on some games already when replaying a game to watch later? They view the score so many times on the screen.

Doesn't it take the fun of watching it?

I'm in 1 fairly big money FF league (winner takes over 2 grand) and a few smaller money FF league (despite telling myself I was going to limit myself to 1.) I think watching every game, and actually seeing how the player in question performs is going to help my waiver wire pickups tremendously. Besides, it is kind of cool to see all of the plays, particularly with Primetime gone.

So when I called DirecTV yesterday to get my HD/regular Sunday Ticket channels fixed, I was introduced to the Super Duper Name-Dropping Customer Service Dude. In the span of like 3 minutes, he managed to tell me that he knew, met, or had spent time with Ernie Fletcher (KY Governor) and his wife, Jeb Bush and his wife Columba, and also suggested that he had met Laura Bush (by comparing her to Columba). If I had wanted to test him, I was thinking about throwing out, "Yeah, I was born in Wyoming," just to see what great Republican he knew from that state. But I wanted to, you know, watch football and stuff and not stay on the phone with some name-dropping dork from DirecTV. But that was one of the strangest customer service calls I've ever had.

My 2 normal receivers are D10s, so I assume I could use this. However, the TV I'll be watching the majority of my games on (the HDTV) has an H20. That blows.

i think the easiest way to tell is by looking at your remote...if you have red/green/yellow/blue buttons underneath your directional arrows/select button, that is an interactive remote.

i dont know if the list EF27 posted is complete or not...i saw it on D* website as well, but since my new box isnt on it, i had no idea how far out of date it is.

dola, i do have the audio track switching on the game mix channels as well, so apparently that is another feature these receivers allow.

All 3 of the remotes have those buttons, but I used the blue button yesterday to switch between games from the normal menu. But if it activates with the red button, then I'll have to try it next weekend to see if it works. Thanks for the info.

I'm in the same situation. I went into the guest bedroom, which has a D10, just to check it out and all of the interactive features worked on that TV. However, that is just a small regular TV, and I'll be watching most of the games on the 60 HDTV which has an HR10-250 which is not interactive.

Ksyrup
09-18-2006, 09:05 AM
I definitely confirmed that my HD receiver, an H20, is not interactive, but the other two regular receivers, the D10s, are interactive. I received all 3 of these receivers at the same time about 2 months ago when we moved to our new house. Why in the hell would DTV not have a base HD receiver that is interactive, but make the standard receiver they give to all new customers interactive? I've basically got to choose between watching games in HD, or watching on another, non-HD TV where I can use the interactive features. Fucking ridiculous.

Also, I see that in order to use the interactive features, the TV must be connected to a telephone line. So there's ata least one reason why it is "required," although it isn't necessary as they claim to get these sports packages themselves.

Don't believe any claims by DirecTV that a phone line needs to be connected to a reciever for something to work. Everything they have ever told me it needs to be connected for has proven to be false, except being able to order pay per views with the remote.

Like I said, it looks like you do need it for the interactive features for Sunday Ticket, as well as the local weather stuff you can get to with the "active" button. And pay-per-view, as you mention. Otherwise, I don't see anything else.
