Statistical aberrations? Future breakout candidates (or do good stats cause breakouts)? What is your general impression? Do you go with the guy that has the better ratings, or the better stats? Are both important to determine the ability of a player?

Often times it seems when I go with the guy with the better stats, and lower ratings, I end up getting burned sooner or later.

Future breakout candidates - not for true veteran breakouts (i.e. from 60/60 -> 85/85); but could be an indicator of underrated per the scout. (i.e. from 60/60 -> 62/62 -> 65/65).

I'm afraid the 'playing above their ratings' part can be seperated in three things coming together:
* overall talent around the player
* the game plan fitting that player's set of skills
* luck of the dice
But then, I have to admit that sometimes I demote players with slightly better ratings if their stats are seemingly worse than the stats of a slightly lower rated player. I realize that this can result in terrible stats for a player for one season if the guy just happened to have a bad run of games. Thing is, the margin of error in the scouting department might as well tell you to start the worse player.

I noticed something odd the other day in a career. I believe it was a 4th or 5th year WR I had that great stats(1400 yards or more 2 straight years), but he had pretty solid but not spectacular ratings, something like 60/60. Well, he held out cause I wasn't paying him much, so i traded him. The following year I noticed he was something like 85/85 in the FA pool.
I wish I had saved more files, so that I could run some tests to see if it was always a boom he made. As in he was really a super player, just underrated. Or he boomed cause of his performance. Or some combo of all that.

I signed a DE the other day, going into his 6th season, who was rated roughly 60/60. He was maxed out in pass rush strength, had okay in the other ratings. After a 8.5 sack, 55Hurry season w/ a percentage of 12.9, I notice that going into his 10th season he now shows at 88/91. He was always a monster numbers wise(20.5 sacks in his 5th season), I just wonder if he was playing above his ratings, or if they had been "masked." Not really sure here.
