In the mailbox

Sophomore DE Billy Cunningham has been made academically ineligible for the upcoming season for failing a class.

Thirteen players are entered into the College Hall of Fame, among them a Purdue OLB and an Illinois ILB.

Three players suffered lost relationships (what a lame complaint - hey, enjoy college life fellas. Sow your wild oat or something), and another request more free time without telling anyone why. Well duh, that sort of thing is really what the coach wants to hear.

Defensive coordinator Oscar Fain retires.

Eric Downs of Vanderbilt is named Coach of the Year.

Staff hiring
28-yr old Norm Romano is our new defensive coordinator. He's rated excellent with the DL, pretty good with LBs, and good with the DBs.
Scheduling
We schedule #79 Eastern Michigan in week 2 and #121 Memphis in week 4, both at home.

QB Miller is a nice find, he could very well be the second-most talented passer on our team.

Hamilton is the real deal. I've never seen a better RB talent on a Hoosier football team.

FB Schneider is serviceable, but probably only a special teamer.

TE Lane is another awesome talent in this crop, stud receiver and strong blocker in one.

What, another future star? Myron Kuklick continue the recent IU tradition of standout WRs.

C Gerak is a mere roster filler - but we have a good sophomore here.

G Ross is good academically at least.

T JohnSy is very green but could be a decent backup in time.

P Schulman will likely start as a true frosh as he has no competition.

Coles and Erickson gives us unnecessary depth at K, both are very talented.

ILB Alfred isn't very special, but decent across the board.

OLB Grooms is making the defensive staff happy - he's bound to be good some day.

Roosenraad will have to learn a lot of things but we see some skills there. Nice for a walk-on.

CB Wooden has neither the brains or the brawn to make it very far in the Big Ten.

S Middleton is making grown men drool and stutter. Yes, NFL scouts too. He's that talented.

Summary: a very nice class, especially on offensive skill positions and safety.

Ike Ogden return as his third season as the undisputed starter. He has a chance to become the second Indiana QB ever to pass for more than 10.000 yards, the first was Henry Whalen in 2031. Claude Nybo and Eric Vitale are serviceable backups which gives us the luxury to redshirt Miller.

O'Donnell is far and away our best RB, which is why it's so nice having Hamilton on the team - the backups aren't too impressive. Especially Cobb has been disappointing.

Bad depth at FB and Terrell, with three starts from last season, gets the nod. Things are looking better at TE, with Gilmore returning and Lane coming in.

We've lost a little depth at this position, but Aikens is an All-conference wideout. Bauer and Lannon will fight it out for #2 with the redshirt senior being a preseason favorite. Kuklick has a good chance of avoiding the redshirt.

Good to see Indiana back. I sense an undefeated season on the way;)
We'll see that next week as we face NC State which has turned into a regular top25 team. If we do that, there are still Northwestern and Wisconsin on the schedule.
Sorry for the lack of updates recently, here's why:

Scholarship offers revisited:
S Cook is considering Northwestern, which isn't too good. We're the second choice though.
CB Ponds is visiting Wisconsin and Western Michigan, both with better academics.
DT Cornett is visiting Northwestern and is considering Idaho as well.
DE Ogris is considering Northwestern and Barrow, but we've got an old HS teammate.
G Carlton is considering Stanford, distance is obviously not a problem.
G Sawyer is visiting Northwestern. With that competition I should contact some other players at this position.

You know, in a way you should be proud for scoring 20% of Wisconsin's total points allowed :) Good Lord, they are a juggernaut!
Ike Ogden is out, time to see if we can go with our super QB prospect directly or if we handle the reigns to any our our 3 still good prospects QBs :)
Hugh Terry will be missed too.

Good catch there Craig, I'd never have noticed. That's impressive in any way you look at it!

Wow, TCY is challenging. 43 years without a mythical national championship is pretty brutal. I never got into TCY because the recruiting and time management were tedious, but I'm inspired to give it another shot now.
