Okay, so last week, I am at Blockbuster and decide to get some movies. I already suspect I won't be doing much on New Year's Eve (I'm more of a homebody now anyway, unlike my younger days :) ), so I rent some movies with the intent of watching a couple of them on New Year's Eve.
I rented Elf and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I had been meaning to rent both for a while.
I watched Elf earlier tonight (and enjoyed it). After a break to watch the countdown and pass in the new year, I put in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
It started right up, and pretty much went straight to the FBI warning. Well, that's not unusual, DVDs often start up with previews right away nowadays. I am figuring that's why I didn't get a "Play Movie" menu or nothing like that.
My impressions is that ESOTSM is an indy film or something like that (not sure if it is, really, but that was the sort of impression I got--too much originality for a studio film). Usually films like that start off with previews of off the wall films that are released "limited" and never hit big at any point or are Palm D'or candidates at Cannes or from Sundance.
So I wasn't surprised when this first movie preview seemed to be something like this, where I didn't recognize the stars. It had the usual previewish narrator approach while showing dazzling views and vistas, although the narrator was a woman instead of a deep-voiced man.
The preview was also throwing up actor names with different character shots, as if I was supposed to know them. Well, maybe these were indy movie cult figures I don't know.
Then they get to this point in the narration where they are talking about the seedy life of one of the characters, and they start showing women dancing around in S&M black leather with, umm, holes where covers for the breastages would be.
I'm sitting here, thinking, pretty darn racy for a preview...but whatever. I mean, hey, I like tatas, even if the apparel isn't exactly my style. :D
And then The Eternal is flashed up on the screen and I realize it. This ain't a preview, it's the friggin' picture! I pick up the Blockbuster box, and sure enough, it only says The Eternal. I had this thing all week and never noticed. Ugh.
I know I got it from the ESOTSM section, so obviously some nearby cartridges got mixed up.
I'm not bothering to watch The Eternal, BTW. I'm too old to waste time watching movies for naked (or near-naked) chicks alone. :)
Happy New Year, everyone.
