My sister just picked up DD Tournement Poker (No Limit Hold'em) (http://games.donohoedigital.com/poker/) for me as a birthday gift. While I'm a big fan of Turbo Texas holdem, I don't have the tourney edition and have been fighting over wether or not to pick it up. Looks like I might have something to hold me over for a while.
I create a profile and jump right it to the tournements. The starting Tournement profiles are: Card Room, Card Room Rebuy, Heads-up, Poker Night 1 & 2, Satellite, Super Satellite, World Chamiponship 2003 & 2004.
I get my butt handed to me in a couple Poker Night 2 tourneys (10 player, 20$ equals 500$ chips, single rebuy before level 3) on the hardest difficulty. There are 3 difficulty levels, not sure on the differences. I believe they discuss it in a little more detail at their forums (http://eaglegames.zeroforum.com/zeroforum?id=16)
No glaring bad play by the AI, and did have to change my play up a bit as they seem to catch on to certain things if I played in too rigid a style. I did notice a couple funky betting amount decisions by the ai but nothing to really pull me out of the game.
Went in and set up a tourney to emulate the Pokerstars freeroll tournies. Was able to pretty much set everything up how I like, with the exception of the buy-in being set at 1$ for 1500 chips. This is mainly for the tourney results tracking I think, which keeps track of the dollar amount you've spent versus earned in various tourneys for you profile.
Well, after a day of playing I'd have to say...
Pros:
1. Written in Java. (I have a softspot for multi-platform apps)
2. Playable in fullscreen or resizable window
3. Decent capabilites as far as tourney setups (Can have up to 5000 players.)
4. Decent AI (in my small sample so far)
5. Has your standard "cheats" like Turbo Texas you can use as learning tools.
6. Downloadable purchase
Cons:
1. Stats tracking. (There is none, other than tourney finishing place.)
I'll come back and edit/add as I play more. So far I'm enjoying the game. I *really* miss the statistical tracking of Turbo Texas Holdem, which I assume is carried over to the tourney addition so I meet still be picking it up. But for the non diehard players this game might be thing as its a downloadable purchase and half the price ($29.99) of wilson's offering.
