I've spent some time trying to find a good strategy-level civil war game. Does anyone have any suggestions or favorites? I checked out Underdogs, but the best they could do was Civil War Generals 2, which is really a more tactical game. For things like that, I'll just stick to Gettysburg and Antietam.

There is an older game out there .Forget the name(from sumter to appotomax?) but it was strategic in scope. Originally put out by interactive magic. Now its a free download from the guy who did it. Think the name of the company is ADANAC and the guys name is Frank Hunter. He is putting out a WW1 game thru Matrix games. Hope this helps

Decent game, played it for a looong time back in the old days (90's)

Works with win 98, not sure about 2000/me/xp

It's called American Civil War: From Sumter to Appomattox, put out by Adanac Command Studies. Unfortunately their website is down so you can't download it at the moment. Underdogs has a listing for it and recommends it.

Thanks for the responses - I downloaded that and checked it out. Looks like there might be a quality game lurking under there, somewhere, but I wouldn't describe the interface as very user-friendly. It sure could use an update. Hopefully some of the games in development (I forget their names - saw them on Strategy Planet) fill the void. After all, it's been 10 years since this one was made.

by the way, why bother with a WWI game? How much fun can a trench simulation be?

I vaguely remember that Frank was planning to update his civil war game with better graphics, better interface,..etc..., basically cleaning it up in a major way. If he ever does i'm in.

I don't know, a WWI game might have possibilities. It wasn't all trench warfare. Depending how large of a "worldwide/strategic "aspect is involved.
Lots of movement on the eastern front, middle east and africa, although it might be tough to do for the German colonies in africa as the units running around were smaller than in europe.

BTW: According to my friend Frank makes interesting napoleonic war games.
