Has anyone tried this yet?I guess you can preorder it and download the beta which is full featured and from the sound of it nearly complete.

If I'm not mistaken, the Beta is a free download for those who subscribe to their Drengin.net stuff. I haven't played Galactic Civilizations in awhile; though I have to admit, the times that I did play, it was pretty addicting. Still, I'd probably wait for a bit, and then get it going up again. Nice to see the effort on patches and stuff.

Has anyone tried it now .It was released a few days ago in download format.First impressions?

Tough call at the moment. While I am enjoying it, I'd have to say if your happy with GalCiv teh original, just stick with it. While the campaign is nice, its more what I'd expect of a fan-made campaign than an offical expansion pack. The two new races and settings (different game conditions, ability to play as "teams") are nice but nothing really jumps out at me as a "must have".

Main reason I picked it up was for the editing tools and from what I've seen their not *quite* ready for primetime yet. For 20 bucks it wasn't bad and it did get me back to playing regularly.. But I'd suggest to anyone considering picking it up to wait a little bit and see what they add/change over the next few weeks via stardock.
