I have finally purchased FBCB and I am looking forward to taking over my hometown St. Louis Billikens!

I am looking to take the program back to the glory days of Spoonball when Charlie Spoonhour had them playing the best basketball for the fans of the Billikens. I want to build them up to a power in the Conference USA for years to come!

No doubt this is quite the challenge but I am looking forward to it.

Here is what I am going with:

Attribute Style: 1-100
Allow Human Coaches Fired: YES
Random Team Prestige: NO
Play-in game: YES
Conference Movement: Full
Academic Suspensions: YES
Starting Level: 8 (1-16 scale)

SLU Prestige: 65

I am very new to this game and I hear it is quite challenging so I am starting at 8.

Here is how I divied out my 160 attribute points:

Recruiting: 90
Scouting: 60
Coaching Offense: 55
Coaching Defense: 55

Should be a lot of fun! I am now going to start to look to hire my staff...

Coach Hiring Phase

Time to try to accumulate the best possible guys to embark on this mission with me.
I get together with that athletic director and he explains to me my budget is set at $568,750. He recommends I spend around $379,000 on hiring my staff.

I feel my crew is very important but I would like to stay close to that number when hiring my guys.

I decide to make my first offer to a recruiting coordinator:

Jamal Carruth - 52 years old from Gallatin County High School in Warsaw, Kentucky.
His ratings are: Recruiting: 84, Scouting: 31, Coaching Off.:100, Coaching Def.:45
---------------------------
His alma mater is James Madison University and I offer him a hefty $160,000 contract. Recruiting will obviously be a HUGE part of what we want to do here and I will invest most of my money in a recruiting coordinator.

Next I look for a lead scout:

Michael Harley - 42 years old from Central Cabarrus H.S. in Concord, North Carolina.
His ratings are: Recruiting: 46, Scouting: 65, Coaching Off.: 18, Coaching Def.:11
---------------------------
His alma mater is Tulane (a C-USA rival) and I offer him a nice $100,000 contract. I doubt I will lure him with the amound I offered but it is worth a shot.

Finally, I go out and recruit my coaching assistant:

Chris Quevedo - 54 years old from Canacosta High School in Canacosta, N.Y.
His ratings are: Recruiting: 34, Scouting: 17, Coaching Off.: 79, Coaching Def.:50
---------------------------
His alma mater is William and Mary and I offer him a nice contract worth $130,000. I was looking for a guy that had a decent combination of both offensive and defensive coaching abilities. Quevedo would be nice to have. I offered him a pretty good contract, we will see if he accepts.

So, total I offered $390,000 which is a little over what was recommended but not too much. These guys are going to be such a HUGE part of what we want to do here so it is worth it.

I will now wait to hear back from these guys...

Well, as expected all three guys go to more prestigous programs. Carruth becomes the Gators recruting coordinator for the University of Florida. Harley is now the lead scout for the Kentucky Wildcats and Quevedo accepted a position at South Carolina.

On to round two...

Recruiting Coordinator

Ronnie Smith - 63 years old from Toombs County High School in Lyons, GA.
His ratings are: Recruiting: 73, Scouting: 26, Coaching Off.: 20, Coaching Def.:1
---------------------------
His alma mater is Seton Hall and I offer him a nice contract worth $140,000. Again, I need a good recruit coordinator and I would be suprised if he turned down that kind of cash, but he might.

Lead Scout

Scott Nunez - 46 years old from Southwestern High School from Hanover, IN.
His ratings are: Recruiting: 29, Scouting: 60, Coaching Off.: 29, Coaching Def.:22
---------------------------
His alma mater is Southern Miss and I offer him a contract worth $120,000. Again, looking for a decent lead scout and Nunez would fit the bill.

Coaching Assistant

Arthur Rogers - 36 years old from Win-E-Mac High School in Erskine, MN.
His ratings are: Recruiting: 18, Scouting: 27, Coaching Off.: 65, Coaching Def.:50
---------------------------
His alma mater is George Washington and I offer him a contract worth $140,000. I like this guy, he is young and would add a lot to our coaching staff.

I am hoping to get at least two of these guys...

I hear back from two of the three and the first two members of my staff are my lead scout Scott Nunez and assistant coach Arthur Rogers!

Ronnie Smith declined my offer and accepted a position at Penn State.

I still need a recruiting coordinator...and I go after this guy...

Chris Webb - 55 years old from Moore Haven High School from Moore Haven, FL.
His ratings are: Recruiting: 60, Scouting: 5, Coaching Off.: 64, Coaching Def.:11
---------------------------
His alma mater is Long Island and I offer him a contract worth $130,000. I would really like to fill this void during this period and Webb would be a nice fit. We will see....

My coaching staff is filled!

Here they are:

Recruiting Coordinator: Chris Webb, 55 from Moore Haven, FL
Lead Scout: Scott Nunez, 46 from Hanover, IN
Assistant Coach: Arthur Rogers, 36 from Erskine, MN

Next we will take a look at our boys!

Chris will be our starting center and at 6'11 and 240 lbs. we have a huge presense in the inside. He is a senior so I will only have him for a year but he will do what he does best, rebound, steal and block. That is so important.

Next up...

#53 C Gerald Reese - Saint Louis - Sophomore

Gerald is just a sophomore and not too tall at 6'8'' but a wide body at 257 lbs. He will develop into more of an offensive threat then Nichols when he gets his opportunity and should be a good rebounder but won't block too many shots. #2 on the depth chart coming in.

Michael Minor is just a freshman and could develop into a nice player for us. He will be good inside, rebounder and blocker. I am interested to see how he develops throughout his time here. With the possibility of moving Reese to PF in the future he could start quickly if he develops.

Let's take a look at our power forwards...

#43 PF Elwood Shepherd - Saint Louis - Junior

Shepard will start for us at the power forward position this year. We don't expect too much scoring from him but do expect some big rebounds and defensive stops. Just a junior we will have him for this and next season and I am excited to see what he can do for us this season. I really hope he can get the job done in the classroom.

#45 PF Mervin McMullen - Saint Louis - Sophomore

Mervin McCullen is a sophomore and a defensive type player. He has good enough size to spell both Nichols at C and Shepard at PF. He is on scholarship and he needs to really focus to keep his grades up and eligible. He will be #2 on the PF depth chart and see some time at C.

#4 PF Hershel Butcher - Saint Louis - Freshman

Another freshman on the squad that could develop. I don't expect too much to come of Butcher but then again, who knows! We will see. He will be #3 and could take a red-shirt.

Wescott is a nice player from Canada and with one year of eligibility left he can suprise some people with his 3-point shooting and plays good defense. Not the best pure shooter but he can do some things for us this season.

#12 SF Cyril Hubble - Saint Louis - Freshman

Cyril is a freshman who could see some court time this season. He plays solid defense and is already a good shooter from the field. He has also been known for blocking a shot or two.

#21 SF Chris Shearin - Saint Louis - Junior

Shearin is a Junior and won't see much time. He could come off the bench a few times to spell some people. Needs to keep his focus on grades as well.

Shooting Guard is a wierd position for us this season. We will have a natural point guard start at SG but two of the three other guys will see some time.

#55 PG Aaron Tatum - Saint Louis - Junior

Tatum is a natural point guard but the team will be best suited with him starting at the 2 guard. I am excited about him. A junior that handles the ball well and is a good shooter. He also plays good exceptional defense. He could move to the point next year with the starter there (Risner) leaving after this season.

#20 SG Rickey Williams - Saint Louis - Freshman

I am very excited about Williams. He is a sharp-shooting 2-guard after taking a red-shirt last season will see some time off the bench when we need a three. Great shooter, lacks a little on defense but is a very smart kid and will most likely start for us next season somewhere.

#15 SG Charlie Pipkin - Saint Louis - Senior

Pipkin is just hangin on for his senior season. He will probably be academically ineligible at some point during the season and won't give us too much on the court.

Eugene Rowland is a decent SG as a sophomore. He will be pretty far down on the depth chart this season.

Good ball handler and passer. That is what he will do for us this season. He won't score too many points but his job is to distribute. That is why he will start at the point this season. He needs to work hard in the classroom to stay eligible or else Rickey Williams will slide to SG and Tatum will move to the point. Hopefully that won't happen.

#0 PG Johnie Knighton - Saint Louis - Sophomore

Another good point guard, Knighton is more of a shooter than Risner but isn't a great natural passer. He can handle the ball very well and will spell Bradly this season as our backup point guard. And he is just a sophomore.

Scheduling

The first month I spend offer the following games: (prestige rating)

11/16/03 - vs. Davidson (50) - I wouldn't mind getting off to a good start against a quality opponent
11/20/03 - vs. Albany (7)
11/24/03 - @ UConn (90) - I love the chance to upset a big dog!!
11/29/03 - @ Alcorn State (55)
12/03/03 - vs. Texas Tech (65) - Another quality Big XII school.

All five teams accept my offer (suprisingly) and that is how I will start my first season.

I also accept a game on 12/29/03 at home vs. Illinois State (54).

After the first month I have 6 games scheduled and have 7 non-conference left, with 4 at home...

Next Month...

I offer the following:

12/07/03 - vs. Missouri (81) - Hopefully the start of a great rivalry!
12/10/03 - @ Arkansas-Pine Bluff (7)
12/13/03 - @ Eastern Michigan (20)
12/20/03 - vs. Providence (67) - Another quality opponent.

Mizzou, Eastern Michigan and Providence all accept but Ark-Pine Bluff (they were looking for more challenging games).

I also accept a proposal from Southeast Missouri State (35) on 12/30/03.
I rejected Purdue on 2/9/04 because I have too many tough teams. I need a couple wins. :)

At this point I only have two more games left to schedule. I offer to IUPUI and Indiana as my last game of the season in case I need a big win to get into the tourney. I will wait to see if they accept as I start recruiting...
