PISCATAWAY, NJ – Standout defensive lineman Nate Robinson of Irvington High School has signed an institutional letter to attend Rutgers University and play football for the Scarlet Knights, it was announced today. Robinson will be eligible to compete beginning in the upcoming 2003 season.

The 6-5, 305-pound Robinson was regarded as the top high school defensive lineman in the country coming out of Irvington High School. Robinson was rated as the top defensive prospect in New Jersey and was a All-America selection by both The Insiders.com/CNNSI.com and SuperPrep. He was a consensus Top 30 player nationally following his senior season.

“Nate is a fine football player and a fine young man, who we have known for a long time,” said Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano. “Over the years we have developed a great relationship with Nate and his family. We’re thrilled to have him as a member of the Rutgers football team.”

As a junior in 2001, Robinson recorded 82 tackles, including 17 tackles for loss. The All-State lineman displayed his speed and agility with 14 quarterback sacks, and also knocked down nine passes and caused six fumbles.

While Robinson missed most of his senior season due to an injury, he was rated the nation’s No. 10 player on The Insiders.com Top 100, rated the nation’s No. 21 player on Allen Wallace’s SuperPrep Elite 50, and the No. 15 defensive tackle by Tom Lemming’s Prep Football Report. Robinson was also named to the New Jersey Football Coaches Association’s Super 100 Team.

This is just what Rutgers needs. The fact that Miami wouldn't admit him over 20 points on his SAT is trivial, but I'm thankful for it. I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict a 7-5 year for Rutgers this year.

I think 6-6 is a very realistic prospect for Rutgers. The Michigan State game is going to set the tone for the rest of the season.

Whoa there partner, 6-6?

Baby Steps CT, Baby Steps...

4 Wins with a few close losses would be considered a positive step with 5 Wins being a Very Good Season for RU..

6-6, and all of a sudden we are talking Bowl Eligible.

Although I am pulling for Rutgers to get that ship righted, I just don't see how the schedule will allow for 6 Wins.

MAJOR CONGRATS ON THE SIGNING OF ROBINSON THOUGH!! That is a Huge Step in the Right Direction.. See, all Schiano needs is time. Frank Beamer didn't get VT turned around overnight. Neither did Walt Harris at Pitt... and those programs were nowhere near the level RU was before those hires that the Scarlet Knights were before Schiano.

If Rutgers doesnt win 4 games, I'll jump off Towers residence Hall.

This team has to beat Army, Navy, Buffalo and either UConn or Temple. Besides Pitt, Miami and Va Tech every other game on the schedule is winnable. Michigan State has taken a step back the last 2 years, West Virginia and Boston College are good but those games are winnable if the Knights play their asses off. Syracuse isn't the program they used to be either and they were the last Big East team we beat, so you never know.

It all comes down to the Offensive Line. If the OLine creates time for the QB to find his receivers and creates holes for the running back, then we should be ok.

General Mike and i are seeing eye-to-eye. Let's look at the schedule:

BUFFALO
@ Michigan State
@ Army
NAVY
VIRGINIA TECH*
@ West Virginia*
PITTSBURGH*
@ Temple*
@ Connecticut
BOSTON COLLEGE*
@ Miami*
SYRACUSE*

Buffalo, Army, Navy, Temple, and Connecticut are all absolutely possible. They should be guarantees, but Rutgers seemed to take a step backwards last year. If they win those 5, they need 1 upset to break .500. Like I said, if they beat Michigan State in week 2, we could quite seriously be playing for a bowl bid in Syracuse to close out the season.

dola. here's how I see it:

If they don't win these, Schiano should be fired
Buffalo
Army
Navy
Temple

they could realistically win these
Connecticut
Michigan State

If the season starts well, this is possible
Syracuse

Almost no chance of winning
Miami
Virginia Tech
Pitt
Boston College
West Virginia

In summary, I think 3-8 would be a very bad season, 7-5 as basically the best they can do, and 5 or 6 wins as the most likely outcome.

Because Greg Schiano is one hell of a recruiter. He was one of the main recruiters for Butch Davis when he was at Miami.

Go Knights Go!

Solid 24-10 win, OLine looked good and the Running game did a good job moving the chains.

If you're gonna move UConn up to a team we shouldn't beat, well you should move Boston College down after they choked against Wake Forest

That's what I was thinking. The BC game is late in the season and who knows. After that Wake Forest game I can imagine the BC kids having nothing to play for by that time of the year. Rutgers should be pumped up for that one. Syracuse is another team that could just totally collapse this year, and I can imagine that SU-Rutgers game being close. Of course, they could both go on to have good seasons and prove me entirely wrong.
Michigan State didn't look too hot against Western Michigan this past weekend. Rutgers could catch them off guard and keep it close. I'd love to see Rutgers beat MSU. Rutgers getting better would help the Big East a lot.

Well, Rutgers has met all my requirements for Schiano to avoid a firing. This weeks Uconn game is make or break for the season in my opinion.

Rutgers, why do you hurt me so?
