Re: how to unlock gear in 2010

Thanks for the info.
Can't say i'm happy as a lot of those requirements are based on playing other modes than the EASHL, and past year i barely touched anything but BAP or EASHL. It seems we need to play full seasons offline as GM to unlock the stuff we will use online.
Imho it all should be based on online playing and performance/milestones, like the players cards.

i agree with icy on makin it based online. i think i only saw 2 for the EASHL stuff and its both scoring 200 goals with your team. i, too, had BAP and EASHL as the only things i played. its gonna take a lot of time to do this. TIME ILL BE WILLING TO SPEND!

Hahaha, hilarious
Do you think they want us to just buy these things?
It would take all year to unlock all of them. Not going to happen.

Yeah, that's a good question, would kind of be skewed if there were only boost packs for skaters and not Goalies, but who knows.

We get a new piece of gear, something called "The Shaft".
Best thing is it's totally free and you don't have to unlock anything!

Spartan, you still have the same upgrading system as last year with the cards, it may take a little longer, however the better players will still prosper even if they don't have the better attributes to start.

Pretty dumb thing to say... Nobody is leaving extra points off their player if they play for a top team. I hate the boost slots only being tied to pretend foolish gear, but it is what it is. I'll use whatever I need to to get max attributes.

Not good news. No way I'm playing 3 BAP seasons just to unlock a bonus, I guess I'll just shell out for the unlocks I need. Sad to see it has come to this.

Re: how to unlock gear in 2010

thats the whole point in them making these boost packs hard to do/very time consuming.. do u think EA cares if u earn these boost??? the truthful answer is NO they dont care. They know ppl will dish out the cash for these which is why they have the option to buy them. You complain about having to spend more money for the boost packs but i am sure over 80% of the community will spend a extra $10 for some boost packs.
I wonder how the boost packs will work if u want the same boost pack for a 2nd or 3rd account?? I am thinking this is EAs way of stopping some of the 2nd/3rd accounts on the PS3. If we have a way to copy the files to another account then EA has failed in this, but if we are still able too then it will be no different then last years game.
Oh well the top ranking teams wont change much from NHL09 to NHL10 besides the fact that they may use different team names. The players will still be the same (even if they create a new user name) Just face it most likely after the top 15 or 20 teams things wont change a whole lot.
Same in the real NHL u already have a very good idea on who will be in the top 20 scoring race jus tnot sure what order yet. Thats how this works too.

If these are anything like the stuff from 09 you can just sim up to the last 5 minutes of the game and play that. Just make a custom char with 99 everything, go be a pro NHL player if it lets you, then sim to the last 5 minutes and score glitch goals. You could knock out 40 games in a matter of hours.
I don't see what the big deal is with all this crap anyway. The fact that you can buy it is pretty lame but other than that...I mean, most of us got our legend cards in 09. Just get your card in 10 and be done with it. It's probably far more fun and time efficient to just get your cards through eashl and avoid the equipment stuff altogether.

Re: how to unlock gear in 2010

So in one BAP season you could conceivably get the +5 for Wrist Power, Slap Accuracy, Faceoffs, Accel, Agility, Balance, Aggressiveness, Checking, Endurance, Deking, Puck Control, Durability, three 3-slot Gloves, one 3-slot Stick, three 3-slot skates, and two 3-slot Helmets.
Much of the rest require THREE seasons of play, which is quite a grind considering you're expected to play in 40 of them per season (although I hope it counts if you sim-and-intervene)
I wonder what the +3 skill boosts will come from. Not that it's a big deal to me personally, as I've had 1500 MS points in my account since Christmas (a gift card) because I've had nothing to spend the damned points on. But just because I have the points doesn't mean I won't save them if I can just earn the boosts solo without too much trouble.

There is some discussion that points from boost slots on equipment will add to your Legend card points, whereas boost packs will not. So if you want max points for EASHL you'll need to either buy or unlock slotted equipment and the boosts that you want.
Although I'm not on a top team, I still want my player to be the best that he can be since tweaking builds is some of the fun. I'll probably run through a quick season to get a few boosts, but I'll probably end up buying a couple of them.

The fastest way is to buy right away a boost pack and a helmet, to have a good player to start with and when you got your Legend-Card, use it and buy your own equipment to build your max-player like exactly you want to....
Thats how we all end up when you dont wanna play offline, right?
btw sry about my english, is not that great =)

It doesn't have to take long to unlock most of the gear. For example, if you need to play with all teams of a certain league just create a season, simulate the first game to the last 5 minutes of the game and play the rest (the method was mentioned above). Repeat this for all the teams of the league. Takes about an hour and you don't even have to play the games, just wait until the game is finished. That way, you can watch a movie or do something useful like cleaning your room.
The same works for Be a Pro, you can also adjust the sliders to make it easier so get some of the performance goals. 40 games will take you about four hours. Time consuming tasks like becoming a Legendary GM in Be a GM mode are rare. it took me seven seasons.

Re: How to Unlock Gear in NHL10

Since I don't think I'll want to invest the time and energy into unlocking all of that, I'll just buy the boost pack. I tried to do it this morning and got an error each time, it didn't even list the price for the pack. Anyone have this problem? Anyone know how much a boost pack will cost? I see $10 in an earlier message, can someone confirm this?

Repeat this for all the teams of the league. Takes about an hour and you don't even have to play the games, just wait until the game is finished. That way, you can watch a movie or do something useful like cleaning your room.
The same works for Be a Pro, you can also adjust the sliders to make it easier so get some of the performance goals. 40 games will take you about four hours. Time consuming tasks like becoming a Legendary GM in Be a GM mode are rare. it took me seven seasons.

Yeah i know how to unlock, but when i dont wanna "spend any time on playing offline" so my way to do it is right to end up with my legend and my own equpment i want use, right? This is the best was to do it i guess...

Sorry - I'm a working professional ...only play online and don't have time to mess with offline unlocks so I just bought the Sniper Boost pack.
I also just bought the Gold helmet to match my gold everything else. (I'm embarrassed I know) Anyway, how to I get those extra helmet attributes into my skater? I'm confused how this all works?
Thanks if anyone can help.

That stuff looks like it will be a huge pain to unlock manually.

I bought that pack too. Just remember you can't use attribute pts in concert with boosts.

The stuff might be very inexpensive to buy..... but there has to be some principals involved. A lot of people bought NHL 08..... a lot of the same people bought NHL 09.... and now again NHL 10. EA apparently doesnt have enough of our money that now they need to nickle and dime a few more bucks out of everyone. On top of that..... all the equipment looks gimmicky and quite stupid to me. I always wanted to wear camo gloves and skates ect.. haha sure.
The gold stuff also looks ridiculous and unrealistic. Makes everyone look like a pack of golden fruits on the ice.
They should of just kept authentic equipment... not sticks and helmets with spider webs on them and other hack stuff.

I would love to be able to buy Team helmets. I would buy a FLYERS helmet in 2 seconds. I can't stand the helmet choices they have in there now.

I unlocked fillers after winning the Stanley Cup with the Hamburg Freezers and scoring 250 goals manually (See: My Plight: Maxing Out).
Now how do I apply these fillers? All of my equipment says I have "0" slots. Do I have to buy equipment with filler slots and then apply my fillers?

I paid $9.20 for the game after trade-ins at Gamespot. I've spent roughly $35 on all the boosts and a few pieces of equipment. I still haven't spent as much as I would on the game brand new, so I don't really care. But if I paid $60 for the game and then $35 on the boosts, I might care a bit. In principle I hate that I bought the stuff, but I only get to play a couple of games a night and want my experience to be a good one. That, and the money isn't that big of an issue.
It's bullsh-t that we have to jump through hoops offline and in these odd gamemodes to unlock BAP online stuff. Agree 100%. Littman needs someone to kick his nuts for that one.

The wrist shot power boost slot filler needs some extra info: In playoff mode, win every game on default settings without losing once.
Please add that for this particular boost every game needs to be played in full. This does not work with simming/intervening. Tested and verified.

This isn't Littman. He probably hates it as much as you. This is EA's corporate policy of makeing as much $$ on microtransactions as possible. Same crap happens in Tiger Woods 10.. can't blame Littman for that.

Re: How to Unlock the Best Gear in NHL10

just wanted to thank the author of this. i used this info to quickly unlock many of the upgrades. it allowed me to save quite a bit of money as i was able to decide what items would be too much work and what items i could earn simultaneously. it was a great resource.
has anyone done something similar for the goalie unlockables?

Re: INFO: How to Unlock All the Gear

thanks for the post very helpful not to go through menus every time i forget what i need to do.
for all the whiners you are lucky ea allows you to buy the gear to be able to skate as fast as the people who earn it. if enough of you buy them next year ea will up the rates on you and i will laugh harder when i earn them quickly and easily.
you should not be complaining you should be writing ea a letter of thanks if you suck bad enough to need all those stats they probably arent going to help you anyway though
i completed first 40 game season in about 5 hours got all trophys a forward can get. will have next 2 seasons done in a week or two. i did almost everything on that list on 09 and didnt get anything for it but a couple of offline legend cards.
going to write ea and tell them you all would pay tripple for that same stuff next year they really low balled themselves

Yes, you have to finish the season to get credit for the gear.

I just bought everything because honesty all offline game modes are extremely repetitive and boring. I would rather spend a few bucks than spend hours playing offline.

Re: INFO: How to Unlock All the Gear

I spent the money to buy most of my gear and attributes. In retrospect makes me kind of sick that I suckered into their corporate scheme so easily.
I think the idea is sweet with the gear and boosts, but the gear is all so goofy looking. At the very least we should be able to change/edit the color of our goofy looking gear. I really think EA made a bad move making the gear for sale. Knowing that other people could buy it I felt like it put more pressure on me to buy it so I could compete right away. Yes its great for their sales, but it seems to have ****ed quite a bit of the fan base off.
