I love this idea. Want to try it out for myself; huge on the management side of CFM and then applying the fun to your team after you've made the changes.
Thursday, October 8, 2015 – Dynasty Comments
I definitely feel you on that aspect. What I noticed in the 2002 Expansion Draft was how many players were listed due to their bad contracts, and I wanted to try and portray that. I wouldn't necessarily believe a team would list a 90 overall QB (only 8 in the roster I will be using are above 90), but I could potentially see a team listing a high quality backup if their cap hit warranted it.

I myself will try and steer clear from adding a QB or RB to the teams lists, as those are positions I like to draft, but we shall see.
Hi mate,

Yes, please comment as much as you'd like I don't know if anyone is following the dynasty, but it's always nice to hear new ideas of how to do the Expansion Franchise.

I wouldn't personally do it the way you do because I base mine on the 2002 Expansion draft and my main goal is to keep it realistic. I don't see a team listing a 90 OVR QB or any starters with a high OVR to just give away, so that's why I keep the OVR so low.

But the main idea is to have fun so as long as you enjoy it that's all that matters. There's no point following rules that make it boring for you
I may remove the rule #3 (no rookies) depending on how many players are available for the list from each team. I forgot to add no one over 10 years at the start of 2016 season (so 9 years and below for the 2015 roster).
I hope you don't mind me posting a response to this. I saw you referenced this in a previous post recently and decided to do something similar.

I'll be following something very similar, but I'll be listing 6 players (3 on each side of the ball) from all 32 teams, as well as a randomized draft pick for each team. I am also thinking of running a simmed primer franchise in order to have "access" to the 53 man rosters the game decides the teams to have at the end of the seasons.

From here, I'll pick 6 players, based on skill and contract (as if I was that teams GM).
1. Any player on the IR at the end of the 2015 season is not eligible.
2. All overalls are available for selection.
3. Any player in their rookie year is not eligible from teams (rookies in FA at the end of this 2015 season are eligible, but these don't count in the expansion draft).
4. No player entering FA is eligible.
5. No kickers/punters.
6. Must spend 60% salary cap. Max 75% (maybe).

I'll then enter my own expansion draft and randomize the selections. If I select a player above 88, that team gets to remove all of their players. If I select above 77, that team gets to remove 2 or 3 players from their list. All other picks reduce their lists by 1. If I random select their draft pick, all other draft picks in the same round are removed from all teams. My goal is to make a 75 man roster and use max 85-90% of cap. I'll pick until no one remains, or I hit 75% cap. The remainder of my team will be made up of people in FA (at the end of that simmed franchise).

I'll take this list and make a custom roster to start a new franchise with. Players selected will be replaced with in kind players from the FA pool, ranked in order of overall. If I select a 90 rated QB, that team will sign the highest rated QB from FA. I'll also return all picks to their original team for whichever team I select. So if SF has NYGs 3rd rounder for next year, I'll give that back to NYG before getting the draft picks I chose in the draft.

From there, I'll sim an 0-16 record for my team, relocate, and begin in season 2. That offseason should have zero free agents leaving (if I need to edit their contract length of they originally came from FA, I'll extend them to 2 years to ensure this happens). If I have less than 10 draft picks, I'll sign undrafted rookies that I scouted. If I have more than 10, I won't.

I like the random aspect because it will ensure that I don't grab the best players available, but will also allow me to do this multiple times with the same list if I so chose.

I to am a offline franchise and have been for such a long time, I truly love Diamond Dynasty this season. It has been just the overhaul to the mode that was needed. It's true, my Rockies franchise will take precedence (always) but Diamond Dynasty will be a close second this summer and a nice relaxation from the strenuous and more serious franchise that I try to run.

To be honest, I haven't really timed it out, but my guess is probably an hour to hour 15. It also depends on how many times the clock runs. If there are a lot of incomplete passes, then it takes longer than if there are a bunch of runs. Does that make sense?

Ok so going into the season, I'm finally set up. I have my rotation listed in order, the members of the bullpen, and the position players. Obviously the lineups might end up being different each game due to guys needing rest and who the opposing pitcher is, so I just left all the position players bunched together like that. Then I have the top prospects listed after that. Here is what my team will look like (numbers next to players are their current overall ratings):

SP Rotation
Cliff Lee 91
Cole Hamels 89
AJ Burnett 81
Jeff Niemann 77
Kyle Kendrick 74

Roberto Hernandez 71
Justin De Fratus 70
Brad Lincoln 70

Chase Utley 83
Freddy Galvis 75
Jimmy Rollins 85
Ronny Cedeno 68
Cesar Izturis 71
Domonic Brown 81
Ben Revere 79
Marlon Byrd 78

Prospect Info
SP Jesse Biddle 73
3B Maikel Franco 67
SS JP Crawford 66
SP Michael Feliz 65
SP Ethan Martin 64
CP Julio Ruiz 56
SP Severino Gonzalez 61

Well, it's finally time to start with the games. I will post an update after the week of games are played.
lce5007 on May 10, 2014 at 08:45 PM.
First update will just be explaining my moves during Spring Training. I have no intention of playing these, but the players still progress/regress during this, so I'm going to sim the games instead of just ending it right off the bat.

For starters, I brought in four new scouts. The default group that I had was absolute trash. I got one guy who was in 90's for discovery, who I will have finding a different type of player every single day. Then I decided to pick up one guy who was 90's when it came to scouting pitcher ratings, one who was 90's for position player ratings, and another who was 90's for both. Seems to me like a well rounded group.

After my scouting moves, that left me with a remaining budget of 8.92 million to work with. I figured that I could ditch some guys that I have no intention of ever using, then try and snag as many free agents as I could, but still keep enough budget room to sign draft picks once June hits. That being said, here are the moves that I went with:

-Released RP Jay Johnson.
24 years old, 45 overall, D potential.
This guy was just a waste of roster space.

-Signed CP Julio Ruiz.
19 years old, 56 overall, B potential.
Contract: 3 years + club option for 83.3k/yr.
Why not. I only have two closers in my organization right now, plus he's young and has decent potential.

-Released C Deivi Grullon.
18 years old, 44 overall, C potential.
This guy was released solely because I don't see a need for nine catchers in my organization, and he was the lowest rated.

-Signed SP Jeff Neimann.
31 years old, 77 overall, C potential.
Contract: 1 year 1.18 million.
He was the highest rated SP in the free agents right now, and his rating would currently slot him in as #4 in my rotation, so might as well.

-Released C Andrew Knapp.
22 years old, 52 overall, C potential.
I now have eight catchers, and still don't see any reason to.

-Signed 1B Kendrys Morales.
30 years old, 78 overall, C potential.
Contract: 2 years 2.1m/yr.
He can play 1B and RF, so I figured he'd be a good signing just to use as a pinch hitter and to sub in for guys who need a break.

-Released SP Mitch Gueller.
20 years old, 44 overall, C potential.
Lowest rated guy on my team, and I had to make room for more pressing needs.

-Released 2B Edgar Duran.
22 years old, 47 overall, D potential.
Same reason as previous guy.

-Signed SS Cesar Izturis.
34 years old, 71 overall, C potential.
Contract: 2 years 740k/yr.
He plays 2B and 3B as well. I am in desperate need of a third baseman at the moment. There were better options that could play 3B, but he was considerably cheaper.

-Signed SP Michael Feliz.
20 years old, 65 overall, B potential.
Contract: 3 years + club option, 86.6k/yr.
Dude seems like a pretty solid prospect, so I figured I'd snatch him up too.

After all of that, I'm still left with 4.8 million to spend. I figured that I would hold off for now in case I would need to sign for an injury or anything. I also have to save room for anyone that I would want to sign after the draft. I will now sim the entire Spring Training, and the next update will have my MLB roster notes, along with info on what's going on with my top ten prospects (I consider prospects as guys who are not currently on my 25 man roster, are under the age of 26, and have highest potential).
