03:13 PM - June 28, 2011. Written by BestServedCold
The quarterback is the captain of the offense and one of the most important players on the team. Teams can be made by a quarterback and can be broken due to the lack of a good quarterback. So here I present my ranking of all the starting quarterbacks in the entire NFL.
1. Cornell "King" Henry Philadelphia Eagles
Career- 451 of 701 (64.3%) for 4254 yards 30 TDs 11 Ints 88.7 QB Rating
King Henry has been called a product of his supporting cast (best young runningback in the league and top WR), but regardless his stats prove that he is the best QB in the league.
2. Edward Carlomin III Washington Redskins
Career- 458 of 732 (62.6%) for 4889 yards 32 TDs 16 Ints 87.5 QB Rating
Edward has struggled in 2011 and he faltered greatly in the 2010 playoffs throwing 3 interceptions to the Eagles, but he is an excellent quarterback in general making him the number 2 best QB.
3. Jack London Buffalo Bills
Career- 442 of 706 (62.6%) for 4340 yards 30 TDs 15 Ints 85.1 QB Rating
Jack didn't have a great 2010 season, but in the playoffs he led his 10-6 team from the wildcard round all the way to the superbowl to upset the Eagles 27-20. London is tearing it up so far this season and could eventually usurp the King.
4. Alex Vincent Pittsburgh Steelers
Career- 483 of 828 (58.3%) for 5307 yards 31 TDs 16 Ints 81.8 QB Rating
Alex received the highest contract in the offseason ($132.52 Mill over 6 years) of any player for good reason; he is the Steelers. Even dealing with knee tendinitis and having the weakest receiving core of the four QBs previously mentioned, Alex is an excellent QB. So far in 2011 he has thrown 9 TDs and only 1 Int.
5. Robert "Colonel" Kaplan Carolina Panthers
Career- 414 of 693 (59.7%) for 5058 yards 26 TDs 22 Ints 81.5 QB Rating
The Colonel is a big play quarterback with Rusty Atkins at WR. The combo of Kaplan to Atkins is one of the biggest reasons that Kaplan has the highest yard to completion rating, but it also takes away from his completion percentage as he looks downfield quite often in a game.
6. Cris Gildon Kansas City Chiefs
Career- 215 of 318 (67.6%) for 1896 yards 12 TDs 6 Ints 88 QB Rating
Gildon has only started 11 games with the Chiefs over the two years the league has been around, but they would be crazy not to keep starting him this season.
7. Jeff Clayton St. Louis Rams
Career- 185 of 295 (62.7%) for 2222 yards 11 TDs 7 Ints 88.2 QB Rating
The St. Louis Rams made a great decision in signing the former New England Patriot backup to be their new QB. He has started only 8 games in his career, but in 2011 he has been incredible, much to the dismay of his former coaches in New England.
8. Bill Shepard Cincinnati Bengals
Career- 476 of 806 (59.1%) for 4952 yards 26 TDs 6 Ints 79.4 QB RAting
The Bengals rely heavily on their 32 year old veteran to win games for them and surprisingly Shepard has come through. This season he has 1399 yards 13 TDs and only 6 Ints.
9. Tommy Fisk Dallas Cowboys
Career- 442 of 709 (62.4%) for 4431 yards 23 TDs 21 Ints 78.5 QB Rating
Fisk has been pretty good for Dallas. This season he has 5 touchdowns and only 1 interception through 5 games (he missed week 3 to a groin injury).
10. Garrett Irving Seattle Seahawks
Career- 468 of 791 (59.2%) for 4768 yards 19 TDs 15 Ints 76.6 QB Rating
The idol of Seattle Irving has been surprisingly good in an off-balanced offensive attack.
11. Pat Irwin Denver Broncos
Not having a good 2011 at all (2 TDs 8 Ints), but one of the most winning quarterbacks in league history.
12. Marty Huntley New Orleans Saints
Drafted by Cleveland he sat on the bench for a year before being signed to the Houston Texans roster late in the offseason. He was cut after the preseason, but was quickly signed to New Orleans to replace injured QB Sammie Kowall. Huntley has been unbelievably good with a 70.7% completion rating, 863 yards, 7 touchdowns, 1 interception, and a QB rating of 108.5 through 4 games. Analysts keep waiting for Huntley to come back to Earth, but he just keeps winning games for the Saints.
13. Walt Ingram Oakland Raiders
Walt had a less than stellar 2010 posting up a subpar QB rating of 52.3, however 2011 has proved to be a completely different story.
14. Ricky Crangle Jacksonville Jaguars
Crangle holds the record for most times sacked, which tells you a little bit about what he has to deal with. Those 50 sacks probably are the reason why he tried to hold out for a better contract after the 2010 season.
15. Jesse Washburn/Xavier LeSavant Indianapolis Colts
The Colts were one of the worst teams last season, but LeSavant still managed to put up good stats. This season however, he has been riddled by foot injuries and backup Jesse Washburn has been given most of the playing time. Washburn has been shockingly good for an undrafted free agent. He has a 110.2 passer rating with 7 TDs and 1 Ints so far this season.
16. Matthew Baron Minnesota Vikings
Baron was supposed to be one of the best QB's in the league (3rd selection in the allocation draft), but he has been pretty average so far.
17. Henry Walters Arizona Cardinals
The often injured quarterback has played fairly well in 2011.
18. Kennedy Paolillo Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Traded to Tampa from San Diego Kennedy has taken over the starting role and performed very nicely.
19. Jose Carlson Houston Texans
The rookie has been alright so far in 2011.
20. Marlon DiPietro Tennessee Titans
This underachiever has picked up his game in 2011, but still can't seem to realize his potential.
21. Ellis Barker New England Patriots
Although scouts say he is a top 5 QB, his stats show him to be mediocre.
22. Donovan Logan San Fransisco 49ers
This quarterback is very young and it shows.
23. Joel Beyer Baltimore Ravens
Another major underachiever who can't seem to get it done.
24. Ray Lurie San Diego Chargers
He completes a large number of his passes, but he can't seem to get into the endzone this season.
25. Tre Knix New York Giants
Probably the best scrambling QB out there, which is good considering how terrible his o-line has been.
26. Antoine Strong New York Jets
He started off the season pretty strong, but after week 3 he looks like the same guy that threw 23 interceptions last season and only had a QB rating of 47.
27. Dwayne Streets Cleveland Browns
The Browns were hoping to strike it rich with the former Pittsburgh Steeler, but it hasn't worked out quite like they had hoped.
28. Duane Poage Detriot Lions
Poage has been as bad this season as he was good last season. It's quite surprising to see a guy turn around this quickly, but Lions fans are hoping their is something left of the 2010 Duane.
29. Aaron Simons Green Bay Packers
After having an OK 2010, Simons has completely regressed into a interception throwing machine (he leads the league). Fortunately, many scouts still think that Simons has the stuff to develop into a good starter.
30. Kyle Kozhin Miami Dolphins
Kyle was brought in from Denver, but has not had an easy time with it so far.
31. Gene Hoffman Chicago Bears
The vet was brought in from Buffalo to replace Otis Pendergraft who left for Dallas, but Gene has been less than impressive and has even been described by some other players on the Bears as being an anti-leader. Gene doesn't connect well with his teammates and he doesn't work as hard as his teammates.
32. Curtis Turner Atlanta Falcons
The 12th pick in the draft has been very disappointing in his first season with only 3 TDs and 11 Ints for a 46.6 QB rating.
#10- John Fletcher University of Arizona CB Pittsburgh Steelers Round 1 Pick 23
A lot of scouts were unsure of what to think of the 5-11 CB from Plano, Texas, due to questions about his toughness and his zone reading ability, but after giving up nearly 223 yards a game last season (4th worst) the Steelers couldn't afford to pass up on this guy. Jon has been inactive on the roster after badly injuring his head in week 2 in his first NFL tackle. It's still easy to question his toughness, but Pittsburgh defensive coordinator Toby Fitzmaurice swears that Fletcher is the future face of the defense.
#9- Doug Rivers Louisville NT Miami Dolphins Round 1 Pick 7
Rivers was known as a monster pass rusher in college, but scouts believe that this guy will end up being one of the best run-stopping tackles in the NFL after he is done learning Miami's new 3-4 D. Miami certainly needed help against the run after giving up the 4th most rushing yards last season and Rivers was immediately thrust into fray starting the first six games before straining a ligament in his foot.
#8- Gilbert Rogero Iowa State QB Baltimore Ravens Round 1 Pick 3
Rogero went from being a Hawk(eye) to becoming a Raven in a somewhat surprising move by Baltimore. Joel Beyer, who is known as a top QB prospect and was the Raven's 4th round selection in the allocation draft, started for Baltimore in 2010. Unfortunately his 11 TD and 13 INT season failed to impress very many likely leading to Rogero's selection. Gilbert was known in Iowa for his impeccable timing and pinpoint accuracy. Scouts considered him one of the safest picks of the draft and most agree that by the time he retires he will be known as one of the best longball passer in the NFL.
#7- Tito Parrish Colorado WR Chicago Bears Round 1 Pick 15
Tito came into the draft scouted as the second best wide receiver. Many scouts are scratching their heads as they wonder how he fell all the way down to 15, but the Bears seem very, very glad he did. Tito is a big play receiver period. If you don't put your best cornerback on him and bring safety help over the top HE WILL BURN YOU. Through five games Tito has 23 catches for 270 yards and 2 touchdowns. Already some of the faults that made many teams shy away from him are being seen. He has dropped 4 balls (worst among rookies) and seems to have a great deal of difficulty adjusting to the ball. No one is going to argue that he hasn't been impressive, but making a reception on only 48% of his targets is not.
#6- Harvey Brennan RB Eastern Tennessee State Tennessee Titans Round 1 Pick 19
Even though Brennan dominated his conference in college, many team thought that he would be a sure bust after having less than stellar games against top opponents. The Tennessee Titans listened to their fans however and took the guy from their own backyard. Brennan is very fast and surprisingly powerful with exceptional speed to the outside. One of his biggest strengths is recognizing the hole and many scouts now think that the Titans provide him the perfect situation to flourish... notice how they only mention this now after his 117 yard performance against the Saints in week two.
#5- Jon Jackson Stanford Indianapolis Colts Round 1 Pick 9
Jackson was hailed as the greatest prospect in the draft by far, but he fell out of the top 5 as questions about his ability to diagnosis the play were called to the forefront. Already however, Jackson has 2 interceptions and 20 tackles helping propel the Colts passing defense as one of the best in the league.
#4 Brett Barnes RB Washington San Diego Chargers Round 1 Pick 11
Widely considered the best HB in the draft, Barnes fell a bit due to his short stature (5-10 with clogs) and due to his lack of elusiveness. Don't let the small packaging confuse you though, Barnes is an old school back that can pound the ball down the defenses throat. His not going to juke or spin around the defense, but he will wait for holes to develop and put as good of a hit on anyone who tries to tackle him and they put on him. He was considered one of the most developed offensive players in the draft, which was good news to the Chargers as the top halfback on their roster only managed to average 3.75 yards on 173 carries the previous season. Barnes has received immediate playing time running for 109 yards and a touchdown last week after struggling a bit earlier in the season (no rushing TDs and no 90+ yard games in 4 previous starts).
#3- Donnell Bensen WR Syracuse Oakland Raiders Round 1 Pick 1
After breaking record after record at Syracuse Bensen came into the draft projected as a top 5 player with probably the best upside of any player in the draft. After finishing as the worst passing team in terms of yardage, the decision for the Raiders was easy, get Bensen. Paired with Donnell, Raiders QB Walt Ingram increased his passer rating over 25 points and after six games he is only 1 touchdown away from tying his sum from the previous season. Bensen leads the team with receiving yards, touchdowns. and catches with is alarming considering how much room he has to grow.
#2- Ralph Roller DE Purdue Baltimore Ravens Round 1 Pick 14
The hyperactive Ravens had three first round selections after trading the Bills and the Chargers for their picks. With the Chargers first round pick, the Ravens took Roller off the board. He was known as the best defensive end in the draft after dominating at Purdue. His pass rush strength is phenomenal and his motor his ridiculous. All he needs to work on is the technical aspect of his position. He struggles with stopping the run, diagnosing the play, and using finesse moves when rushing the passer, but most scouts agree that he will learn these skill easily given enough time to develop.
#1- Dan McKinnis NT Cincinnati New Jersey Jets Round 1 Pick 2
After a dismal 2-13-1 record in 2010, the Jets needed to find someway to win in 2011. The found that in Dan McKinnis. Dan is, simply put, a monster on the line. In the 3-4 defense, he probably won't get very many sacks, but if put in the right system he can be a 282 pound nightmare for the QB. What really sets him apart however, is his run stopping ability. He has an almost superhuman ability to sense where the play is going and after foiling any attempt at blocking him, he can LAY OUT the runningback. Dan currently is tied for second in the league for forced fumbles.
Bonus List
Jose Carlson QB Texans (R1 P21)- 1201 yds 6 TD 6 INTs 84.9 QB Rating
Derek Allen WLB Jaguars (R1 P6)- I really like this guy, but he already is having injury problems (out 6 weeks total)
Brian Wooden LG Saints (R1 P13)- 1 sack allowed through 6 games.
Bryce Wagner MLB Bengals (R1 P18)- 31 tackles 12 assists.
Ronald Huffman WLB Redskins (R1 P27)- 23 tackles 3 sacks.
Horace Hudson HB Broncos (R1 P30)- 325 yards 4.45 average.

Questionable Decision
Claude Nelms QB 49ers (R1 P4)- I was expecting this guy to go in the early second round.
Al Buchanan WR Giants (R1 P8)- They are going to really regret not taking Parish.
Bust?
Curtis Turner QB Falcons (R1 P12)- 951 yards 3 TD 11 INTs 46.6 QB Rating
Hidden Gem?
Wayne Koester WLB Falcons (R6 P14)- 3 GS 20 Tackles 2 Assists 1 Sack
Donovan Worthham TE Dolphins (R7 P7)- Lucky #7 turned a lot of heads in training camp
A lot of scouts were unsure of what to think of the 5-11 CB from Plano, Texas, due to questions about his toughness and his zone reading ability, but after giving up nearly 223 yards a game last season (4th worst) the Steelers couldn't afford to pass up on this guy. The living room was dimly lit as the lamp sat bundled sideways on the floor. The old television flickered as they occasionally do when they are of that age. The fan rattled loudly over George's head. Click."-is much cooler and drier than last year!"
Click.
"Go down to your Phoenix Chevy dealers today!"
Click.
"Hi folks, I'm Todd Worth and this is Arizona Cardinals Today with all Cardinals news all year long! Today we have special guest, Arizona general manager Alex Martin on with us to discuss all things Cardinals as the team prepares to face the-"
Click.
"-Washington Redsk-"
Click.
"-ins-"
Click. Click. Click. The remote hit the television and clattered to the ground. The television screen flickered black.
"God forsaken piece of Japanese junk!" George sighed. He would go to sleep, but moving seemed to much a chore after unpacking most of his things in his new apartment. So much for Arizona helping with stress, George thought, can't even get the Colts games down here. George scrubbed his hand through his mostly bald head. And settled back in his seemingly antique chair hoping to catch a few moments of sleep before trying to get all the way into his bed. His eyes closed shutting off the light and he began to reminisce of his younger days playing baseball.
"-are trailing the St. Louis Rams in the standings..."
George's eyes snapped open in alarm, but with a sigh he settled back into his chair. After all, maybe they would mention something about the Colts.
"Can you first tell us a little bit about the roster, Mr. Martin?"
The camera man zoomed out from the skinny, partly balding host to reveal a younger somewhat heavyset man with dark black hair. His shirt was plain white with Cardinals insignia on his right breast.
"Sure, the heart of our team is apparent to anyone who watches our 3-4 defense play. That would be our linebackers. We have at will Nate Malley, whom we signed in the offseason-" The young man began.
"But he hasn't worked out as well as planned has he?" Interrupted the host.
"Well, we have had trouble integrating him in our defense as we would like. We have been running the 3-3-5 defense a lot this season and that limits us to only 3 linebackers. With Clay Odinson, our number one draft pick in the allocation draft from two years ago, as strong-side linebacker and Mack Bronson at inside linebacker, that only leaves Duffy and Malley to duke it out for the will linebacker spot. Duffy, who was our second round pick in the allocation draft, is probably the best linebacker on the team, so Malley only see about 35% of the plays when we are in the nickel. When he does play, he is very effective with 2 sacks and 9 hurries through only 6 games. For you fantasy buffs, see if you can pick him up in your league for next few games." He advised winking.
"Moving on to the secondary, Alving Cooper and both of our safeties are excellent, which is why are team is the 5th best team in the league at limiting the yards per catch. On the line, Giles is solid and since moving Shepard from RDE to LDE in preseason he has recorded a league leading 7 sacks...."
The stentorian notes of George's heavy snoring, a snore that can only be achieved under the heaviest and most complete strains of sleep, mingled with the rattling of the fan to create a cacophony that could only be construed as a song in the most general of definitions...

The Eastern Conference Semi Finals had two terrific matchups. The #1 Seed Miami Heat, vs the #4 seed Chicago Bulls and the #2 seed Cleveland Cavaliers vs the #3 seed, and last years NBA Champion, New York Knicks. If you read my Western Conference Semi Finals Recap, you will recall that I talked about a big upset in the East. Well, I'll tell your right now, The Chicago Bulls did not upset the #1 Seed Miami Heat...
With that being said, here is a recap of the East Semis.
EASTERN CONFERENCE SEMI FINALS

Its been a few years since the Heat knocked off the Bulls in the 2011 NBA Playoffs and the Bulls still don't have a legit sidekick for their superstar PG Derrick Rose. That weakness was apparent in this series as the Heat took care of Chicago easily in 5 Games.
Game 1: 113-87 - Miami
- Dwayne Wade: 33pts, 5reb, 3ast, 1stl, 2blk
- Chris Bosh: 25pts, 12reb
- LeBron James: 24pts, 11reb, 3ast
- Derrick Rose: 28pts, 2reb, 5ast
- Luol Deng: 18pts, 6reb, 2ast
Game 2: 117-95 - Miami
- LeBron James: 34pts, 9reb, 6ast, 3stl, 1blk
- Dwayne Wade: 29pts, 6reb, 8ast
- Chris Bosh: 23pts, 12reb
- Carlos Boozer: 24pts, 5reb
- Derrick Rose: 24pts, 2reb, 8ast
- Luol Deng: 18pts, 4reb, 2ast, 2stl
Game 3: 82-78 - Heat
- LeBron James: 26pts, 10reb, 4ast, 2stl, 1blk
- Dwayne Wade: 20pts, 7reb, 4ast, 4stl, 1blk
- Chris Bosh: 15pts, 9reb, 2blk
- Derrick Rose: 20pts, 3ast, 1st, 4to
- Carlos Boozer: 15pts, 8reb, 4ast
- Joakim Noah: 8pts, 9reb, 2ast, 2stl, 3blk
Game 4: 111-90 - Bulls
- Derrick Rose: 30pts, 4reb, 9ast, 1stl
- Carlos Boozer: 27pts, 8reb, 2ast, 3stl
- LeBron James: 30pts, 7reb, 7ast, 2stl
- Chris Bosh: 17pts, 5reb, 5to
- Dwayne Wade: 12pts, 1reb, 5ast
Game 5: 107-81 - Heat
- LeBron James: 29pts, 9reb, 11ast, 5stl, 1blk
- Dwayne Wade: 24pts, 6reb, 4ast
- Chris Bosh: 23pts, 10reb
- Derrick Rose: 25pts, 2reb, 6ast, 3stl
- Luol Deng: 15pts, 7reb
- Joakim Noah: 8pts, 13reb, 4ast, 3blk

The Bulls had no answer for the 4 peat MVP LeBron James. LeBron averaged 28.6pts, 9.2reb, 6.2ast, 2.6stl, 1.2blk per game in the series. LeBron lived up to the regular season MVP Award in this one, and was clearly the best player on the floor for the entire series.

And now for that upset special that I've been promising you. If you've been following my association blogs, you know that I am controlling the Cavaliers. Well, I control all 30 NBA teams, because I simply don't trust the CPU to manage anything properly haha. Anyway... I've been controlling the Cavs since Season 1, in the "post LeBron era". Its taken me two full seasons to rebuild and pick up the pieces since "his highness" decided to turn his back on his hometown faithful.
Coming into this season the Cavaliers thought they had a great shot at making a deep run in the NBA playoffs. Comming off of a 36 win season in Kyrie Irving and Harrison Barnes' rookie season of 2011/12, the Cavs and their fans were very excited going into the 2012/13 NBA Campaign.
Irving and Barnes did not disappoint leading the young Cavaliers to a 50-32 record and the #2 seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. After a 1st round dismissal of the quickly aging Boston Celtics, the Cavs would have to face the 2011/12 NBA Champion New York Knicks and their "NYC Big 3" of Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire in the East Semi Finals.
Here is a recap of how the Cavaliers were able to pull off one of the biggest upsets in NBA History...
Game 1: 109-108 - Knicks
- Chris Paul: 21pts, 2reb, 7ast, 5stl
- Josh Boone: 17pts, 11reb
- Carmelo Anthony: 16pts, 9reb, 5ast
- Harrison Barnes: 32pts, 3reb, 3ast, 3stl
- JJ Hickson: 16pts, 7reb
- Kyrie Irving: 12pts, 4reb, 13ast
Game 2: 96-83 - Cavaliers
- Harrison Barnes: 28pts, 4reb, 2ast, 3stl
- Kyrie Irving: 24pts, 4reb, 10ast, 2stl
- Greg Oden: 9pts, 15reb, 2blk
- Carmelo Anthony: 23pts, 9reb, 4ast
- Chris Paul: 13pts, 6reb, 7ast
- Amare Stoudemire: 8pts, 14reb, 3blk
Game 3: 107-90 - Cavaliers
- Kyrie Irving: 20pts, 4reb, 15ast
- Reggie Bullock(R): 22pts, 7reb
- Carmelo Anthony: 31pts, 6reb, 4ast
- Chris Paul: 21pts, 4reb, 6ast
- Amare Stoudemire: 16pts, 11reb
Game 4: 110-95 - Cavaliers
- Harrison Barnes: 31pts, 4reb
- Kyrie Irving: 23pts, 2reb, 15ast, 7to
- Carmelo Anthony: 25pts, 7reb, 3stl
- Amare Stoudemire: 19pts, 12reb, 3blk
Game 5: 103-96 - Knicks
- Carmelo Anthony: 38pts, 10reb, 2ast, 3stl
- Chris Paul: 17pts, 1reb, 10ast, 4stl
- Harrison Barnes: 26pts, 2reb, 2ast, 2stl, 2blk
- JJ Hickson: 23pts, 8reb, 2blk
- Kyrie Irving: 22pts, 7reb, 15ast, 9to
Game 6: 108-96 - Cavaliers
- Harrison Barnes: 27pts, 8reb, 6ast, 2stl
- Kyrie Irving: 17pts, 4reb, 11ast, 2stl
- Greg Oden: 16pts, 11reb, 2blk
- Carmelo Anthony: 35pts, 9reb, 2ast
- Chris Paul: 14pts, 3reb, 9ast, 2stl
- Amare Stoudemire: 8pts, 7reb

Last summer when the Cavaliers decided to re-sign their 24yr old PF JJ Hickson to a long term 6yr $101m dollar contract, some people said it was a bad move. The Cavs brass however, feels like JJ has the potential to develop into one of the best Power Forwards in the game. In this series, JJ showed everyone just what he is capable of. JJ Hickson outplayed Knicks PF Amare Stoudemire in the series and was a big reason why the Cavs were able to upset the Knicks. In the series Hickson averaged a solid 16.3pts and 8reb a game vs Amare who averaged only 12.6pts and 11reb per game. Now, Amare did have better rebounding numbers, but, only 12.6pts per game from him is not acceptable. JJ Hickson did a tremendous job on him defensively in the series.
The MVP of the series for the Cavaliers is a toss up between Kyrie Irving and Harrison Barnes. Both players brought their "A" games and together were the main reason the Cavs were able to pull off the upset.
Barnes was a scoring machine, as Carmelo didn't really have an answer for him all series. Barnes put up: 32, 28, 20, 31, 26, and 27 points for an average of 27.3. That is nearly 6pts more per game than his 2012/13 season average of 21.4pts per game. He really stepped his game up in this series and the Cavs needed every single bucket.
Kyrie Irving also had a monster series. It felt like every basket the Cavs made was off of an assist from Irving. For the series he averaged: 19.6pts, and a ridiculous 13.1ast per game. Kyrie was 4th in the NBA in assists per game with 8.8.
The win vs the Knicks in the the East Semis sets up "the" matchup that every Cleveland Cavaliers fan has been waiting for since "The Decision" back in July of 2010. The Cleveland Cavaliers will square off against the Miami Heat for the right to go to the NBA Finals.
How fitting is this really?
I'm not going to do my "East Finals Preview" here, since this is already a pretty long blog post, and given the magnitude of the situation between LeBron and the Cavs... Stay tuned however, as I will be posting a separate "East Finals Preview" very soon...

Upcoming Free Agents from Wolves team
Michael Finley (37) Small Forward
Finley has proven a useful stop gap and veteran leadership for this team, however we expect he will retire at the end of the season. If he doesn't depending on how the draft goes we may look to sign him to another one year contract.
Joey Dorsey (27) Power Forward
While Dorsey has been serviceable, the glut of talented forwards on the roster and the desire for additional height will see us allow him to enter the free agent market.
Rashad McCants (26) Shooting Guard
McCants has provided some needed three point shooting off the bench, but we expect not to offer him a new contract at the end of the year.
Sebastian Telfair (25) Point Guard
Telfair's position with this team may depend on his attitude, if he does not wish to return we won't pursue him, but otherwise he may be signed to a new contract to provide leadership for Bledsoe and any young point guard we find in the draft.
Brandon Wright (23) Power Forward
Wright is an interesting prospect, but we expect to let him find a new home in the off season.
Deandre Jordan (22) Center
At this stage we are negotiating with Jordan in the hopes of having him re-sign with the team before the signing deadline, so that he won't reach the free agent market. We like the energy and defensive contribution off the bench and Jordan does appear happy in this role.
Remainder of the Roster
Nikola Pekovic (25) Contracted through 12/13
At this stage we expect Nikola to remain with us, as we hope to see continued improvement on the defensive end. Although if an appropriate trade is offered, we may consider trading Nikola.
Anthony Morrow (25) Contracted through 12/13
At this stage we are excited to have Morrow join our team, he presents as a strong possibility to take over Martell Webster's vacated 6th man role with his strong deep shooting ability.
Isaiah Rider (25) Contracted through 12/13
We expect Rider to continue to improve and categorically will NOT be traded any time soon. He is the building block of the future and works well in tandem with Beasley and Love.
Wes Johnson (23) Contracted through 11/12 (+2 Year team option)
We have been impressed with the agility and athleticism of Johnson and we expect his shooting to improve. Wes is a top young prospect for us. We consider him another candidate for 6th man behind Rider and Beasley.
Michael Beasley (22) Contracted through 11/12
We love Beasley's ability to hit clutch shots when necessary, although his injury proneness this season has been cause for concern. Relatively untouchable but may find himself traded should an excellent offer be put forward.
Kevin Love (22) Contracted through 11/12
Totally untouchable, absolute gun of a forward and we only expect him to grow as he is fed more touches. Hope he remains injury free in the future.
Eric Bledsoe (21) Contracted through 11/12 (+2 Year team option)
Bledsoe has handled himself exceptionally and at this stage we expect he will grow into being the starting point guard for this team. He has a big future ahead of him.
Anthony Randolph (21) Contracted through 11/12
Randolph is developing into a fantastic defensive center and with some work to bulk up in the off-season e expect him to only become stronger.
We expect to have a relatively high draft pick thanks to the trade with New Jersey and we may consider taking the BPA and just see what progresses from there. Targets will include Irving and Williams.

Jordan Schafer makes a spectacular catch in the outfield
Julio Lugo scored Alex Gonzalez on a go ahead suicide squeeze play in the top of the 9th to give the Padres a 3-2 victory. Craig Kimbrel pitched a perfect 9th to seal the victory for the Braves.
The win gave the Braves the series win and improved their record to 14-12, good enough for 2nd place in the NL East. After an off day for travel the Padres will host Albert Pujols and the St. Louis Cardinals for a 3 game set.

03:51 PM - June 23, 2011. Written by cgalligan
The Conference Semi Finals have been completed, and we have seen one rather large upset in the East, but I'll get to that in a bit, for now however, here is a quick recap of the Western Conference Semi Finals...WEST CONFERENCE SEMI FINALS

The #1 seed Memphis Grizzlies took care of business knocking off the Nuggets in 5 Games and pretty much dominating the entire series.
Game 1: 119-77 - Memphis
- Rudy Gay: 27pts, 8reb, 2ast, 2stl
- Marc Gasol: 15pts, 13reb, 2blk
Game 2: 108-84 - Memphis
- Xavier Henry: 26pts, 8reb
- Troy Murphy: 18pts, 4reb
Game 3: 98-78 - Denver
- Enes Kanter: 24pts, 10reb, 5stl, 2blk
- Wilson Chandler: 18pts, 5reb
Game 4: 104-94 - Memphis
- OJ Mayo: 21pts, 2reb
- Marc Gasol: 9pts, 17reb, 5ast
Game 5: 98-93 - Memphis
- OJ Mayo: 40pts, 4reb
- Marc Gasol: 14pts, 10reb

OJ Mayo led the way for the #1 Seed Grizzlies as he averaged 21 points per game in the series. He also had a huge 40 point game in Game 5 to close out Denver.

This was thought to be the year that Oklahoma City could finally get over the hump and make it all the way to the NBA Finals. Kevin Durant is fresh off his 3rd scoring title in only his 6th year in the NBA. The Thunder have a great young, athletic Point Guard in Russell Westbrook and legit post defenders in Serge Ibaka and Kendrick Perkins. Great depth off the bench with the little spark plug Nate Robinson and the versatile Thabo Sefolosha. This team, on paper, is one of the most complete teams in the NBA and yet they didn't manage to win a single game in the Conference Semi's vs the LA Lakers.
Game 1: 104-101 - Lakers
- Kobe Bryant: 34pts, 6reb, 6ast, 4stl
- Dwight Howard: 17pts, 16reb, 5blk
- Kevin Durant: 31pts, 5reb, 1ast, 2stl
- Russell Westbrook: 20pts, 4reb, 6ast, 3stl
Game 2: 106-89 - Lakers
- Kobe Bryant: 35pts, 4reb, 9ast, 2stl
- Kalin Lucas: 19pts, 3reb, 3ast
- Kevin Durant: 20pts, 6reb, 1ast, 3stl
- Russell Westbrook: 22pts, 2reb, 7ast
Game 3: 110-82 - Lakers
- Kobe Bryant: 39pts, 1reb, 6ast, 1st
- Dwight Howard: 18pts, 11reb, 2ast, 1blk
- Pau Gasol: 13pts, 17reb, 3blk
- Kevin Durant: 21pts, 11reb
- Russell Westbrook: 14pts, 4rec, 7ast
Game 4: 112-106 - Lakers
- Kobe Bryant: 36pts, 4reb, 8ast, 4stl
- Dwight Howard: 18pts, 14reb, 4blk
- Kevin Durant: 37pts, 4reb
- Russell Westbrook: 28pts, 2reb, 4ast, 2stl
As you can see by the stats listed above, Kobe Bryant is on an absolute mission right now. He is simply not allowing his team to lose. In the 4 Game sweep of the Thunder, Kobe average 36pts, 3.7reb, 7.2ast, 1.3stl...

During these playoffs vs Houston in the 1st round, and now vs OKC, Kobe has averaged 32.5pts, 6reb, 6ast per game.
WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS PREVIEW

The Western Conference Finals look to be a great matchup on paper. We've got the #1 seed Memphis Grizzlies vs the #3 seed LA Lakers. On paper is looks like the Lakers have more "star power" with players like Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom and Ron Artest. The Grizzlies might be the most balanced and complete team in the NBA however. Lets take a look at both of their rosters head-to-head...
Memphis Grizzlies
PG - Mike Conley (83)
SG - OJ Mayo (83)
SF - Rudy Gay (88)
PF - Troy Murphy (66)
C - Marc Gasol (80)
6th - Xavier Henry (72)
BN - CJ Watson (70)
BN - Kirk Hinrich (71)
BN - Sam Young (67)
BN - Mason Plumlee (69)
LA Lakers
PG - Kalin Lucas (70)
SG - Kobe Bryant (97)
SF - Ron Artest (73)
PF - Pau Gasol (91)
C - Dwight Howard (91)
6th - Lamar Odom (75)
BN - Andre Kirilenko (70)
BN - Manny Harris (73)
BN - Brad Miller (61)
BN - Jamal Tinsley (61)
I think the Lakers have a much better front court, with Pau Gasol and Dwight Howard, vs Troy Murphy and Marc Gasol for the Grizzlies. The backcourt of Conley, Mayo and Gay have the advantage over Lucas, Bryant and Artest and I feel like the benches are pretty much a wash for both teams.
Front Court - Advantage = Lakers
Backcourt - Advantage = Grizzlies
Bench - Advantage = Even
The Key for the Lakers in this series is going to be how each of their "stars" plays. If Kobe Bryant continues to play like he played in the first two rounds, then the Lakers should be able to win the series. If Kobe isn't himself, or, he cools down a bit, they are going to have to lean on Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol and hope that they can impose their will on the Grizzlies' bigs in the paint.
For the Grizzlies, they have to figure out a way to slow down Kobe. They can't allow him to get off any shot he wants. OJ Mayo, and Rudy Gay are going to have to make it tough on him. Easier said than done, but, if they want to win the series, this is a must. If Kobe does go off, the Grizzlies can still win, but they are going to have to handle Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol. They simply can't allow all three guys to dominate the series or it will be over quickly. If Troy Murphy and Marc Gasol can continue they solid play, and battle with Howard and Pau, then the Grizzlies will have a much better chance of winning the series...
Prediction
Lakers in 7 Games... I'm still not convinced that the Grizzlies have what it takes to go all the way. Even though they won 60 games in the regular season I'm still not sold on OJ Mayo or Rudy Gay being "that guy" that can carry you when things get tough. We all know, the Lakers have "that guy" that can get them a bucket at any given moment. Its the 6 time NBA Champion, 3 time NBA Fianls MVP Kobe Bryant.
