First Half
Just going to start off with talking bout 1st half. it was a boring one for certain. first points was a FG by Mid Tenn but this was a lot bigger key in the game besides a GT goal line stand. The Blue Raiders starting QB was knocked out but even bigger than that it was for the whole season with a broken collarbone! So the jackets looked to pick it up knowing a key player was done but our O struggled and managed a FG as well so it was 3-3 bout half way through the second quarter. As we stopped them we get a drive going but stalls out with just over 2 min to go in the half and a couple big plays later Mid Tenn punches it in on a 4 yard pass from their back up QB and the O continue to struggle and it was 3-10 going into half. Upset Alert!!
Second Half
So opening up the O came out just as struggling as before but downed a punt at the 1 yard line! Huge play! maybe play of the game. So first play GT sends 2 backers off the edge as Mid Tenn not a real power team runs the option from shot gun the QB is hit by our outstanding DE Peters and misses the pitch man and the ball rolls out of the endzone so 2 points Tech! So with bout 5 min to go in the 3rd its 5-10 tech trailing still. After the free kick it is a quick 3 and out by GT. The next possession was a huge play by the D again an INT was the case by CB Sweeting. With all the Momentum Tech takes it and scores from 10 yards out on a 3 & goal! Having a 1 point lead we go for 2 and get it so with just under 2 min to go in the 3rd its Tech finally leading for the first time in this one 13-10. After that something spark in our O with the D forcing a punt we Take it again down the field and put up 6 points so leading 20-10 with 6 min to go in the game you think easy W now. Not so fast my friends. A huge play leads Mid Tenn getting down to the 1 and rushing it in from there and closing the gap to just 3 points with still 5 min to go! We take the ball and drive down the field we were 35 yards a way and faced with a 4&inches only up by 3 with just over 3 minutes to go now.. a punt would be risking so we decided to run a sweep which was averaging bout 3 yards a carry well Mid Tenn must have read it perfect as our running back is hit in the backfield.... but wait he bounces off! and then makes a nice cut past a few defenders and takes it all the way for 6! that pretty much sums it up after getting a few stops and just running out the clock and finishing it with a short FG final Georgia Tech 30 and Mid Tenn 17
Recap/Preview
So coming into this one i picked Tech cruising 35-14. Well after being down 3-10 i thought we would be lucky enough to get a win but our boys came out and played great ball in the second half and capitalized on the other teams mistakes. A great game by Washington was key in this one we need that the rest of the year for sure! Now all Focus goes to Kansas as we head back home to face a talented Jayhawk squad who is 1-1 on the year and was upset last week by NIU so you think their be firing back at us Jackets. Yet i still see us getting the Win ill have the score predict in Kansas vs Georgia Tech preview post.

Irish crush Boilermakers
Defense holds Purdue offense to 243 total yards
ND 41 PUR 14

Freshman Aaron Lynch records one of his two sacks on Purdue quarterback Robert Marve.
This was the game defensive coordinator Bob Diaco has been waiting for. They held the Purdue offense to 243 total yards and forced 4 turnovers. Purdue quarterback Robert Marve was intercepted three times and fumbled once. Robert Blanton picked him off twice while Harrison Smith had one of his own. Freshman Aaron Lynch, now getting more playing time, recorded two sacks. Linebacker Carlo Calabrese replaced Dan Fox in the starting lineup and played well recording seven tackles.

TJ Jones tip toes along the back of the endzone for Everett Golson's first career touchdown pass.
Coach Brian Kelly decided to start senior Dayne Crist at quarterback. It seemed to be the right choice. Crist started out throwing and running for a touchdown in the first half. Everything was going well until Crist again was hurt. He suffered a herniated disk. He has always had trouble staying on the field and it continued Saturday. Once again, Brian Kelly turned to freshman Everett Golson. The highly touted prospect played well throwing for 119 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in the second half.

Cierre Wood busts loose for a 86 yard touchdown.
Cierre Wood continued his stellar play. He racked up 218 yards from scrimmage and scored a touchdown. In five games this year, Wood has 715 rushing yards with 9 touchdowns with a staggering 8.1 yards per carry average. Hes also managed to catch 15 balls for 140 yards. His name has started to catch some Heisman attention.

Freshman Everett Golson leads Irish on game winning drive
ND 52 PITT 48

Everett Golson celebrates after rushing in for a game winning touchdown with :06 left.
The match up between the Pitt Panthers and the Fighting Irish on Saturday was thrilling from start to finish. They battled back and forth all day with little defense. Combined, they managed to score 100 points. There were plenty of big plays but there was one hero. One unlikely hero. Freshman Everett Golson would step in for his first and biggest moment of his college career.
The Notre Dame defense was stumped and gassed by the hurry up offense of the Panthers. Pitt saw it in the first drive and deployed it all game. In the first quarter, both teams traded touchdowns to make it 7-7. Tommy Rees was sacked and fumbled to open the second. The fumble was returned by safety Andrew Taglianetti for a touchdown. Rees again had trouble all game with turnovers. Irish managed to record a safety then after receiving the punt, Cierre Wood ran for a 36 yard touchdown. Pitt then added another score on the next drive to make it 21-17 Pitt at the half.
The second half got wild. Pitt opened up with a quick score to make it 28-17. Michael Floyd answered with a touchdown of his own. He caught an eight yard pass from Rees. Floyd had a huge game with 10 catches for a 174 yards and a score. The Panthers then kicked two consecutive field goals to go up 34-24. By the third quarter, Tommy Rees had turned the ball over four times. Coach Kelly had enough and turned to senior Dayne Crist. His first snap he rolls out and is hit hard. Crist suffered a concussion and was out just as quick as he went in. What was Brian Kelly to do now? As the third quarter was winding down, Pitt continued to drive. They got the ball down to the Irish 30 threatening to score again. One of the biggest plays happened next when Lo Wood picked of Tino Sunseri and returned it 76 yards for a touchdown.

Lo Wood returns an interception 76 yards for a touchdown at Heinz Field on Saturday.
Coach Kelly decided to go to freshman Everett Golson. His impact was not felt early though. For his first two drives, all he did was hand off to Cierre Wood who had a huge fourth quarter. Wood scored two of his three touchdowns in the fourth. Pitt would answer both of those scores. Tino Sunseri hooked up with freshman wide receiver Todd Thomas on a 45 yard touchdown putting them up 48-45 with 1:48 left. Now Everett Golson could not continue to hand off the ball. Time was not on his side. Golson went 4 out of 5 for 68 yards with the seconds ticking. With just :06 seconds left on the clock, Golson scrambled his way in for a 5 yard touchdown.

Cierre Wood had another huge game with 213 yards and 3 touchdowns.
"We could not continue to turn the ball over and expect to win that game. That is why I made the change." said coach Kelly. When asked about who next weeks starter will be against Purdue Kelly said "As far as next week. I dont know. While we were very impressed with Golson, we are unsure. Were going to see where Dayne is at with his concussion symptoms. Both guys will get reps in practice and we will go from there."

Notable Changes:
I. Div. I-AA Teams Added
II. Conference Alignment and Changes
III. Future Plans/Rules About Conferences
I. Div I-AA Teams Added (team replaced in paranthesis):
Northern Iowa (replaced Eastern Michigan)
New Hamsphire (replaced Buffalo)
GA Southern (replaced UL-Monroe)
Eastern Washingnton (replaced Utah St.)
Delaware (replaced Rutgers)
James Madison (replaced UL-LaFayette)
Villanova (replaced Rice)
Montana (replaced LA Tech)
Montana St. (replaced San Jose St.)
Appalachain St. (replaced Marshall)
Richmond (replaced Memphis)
North Dakota St. (replaced North Texas)
--Villanova, Montana St., GA Southern, N. Dakota St. were placed in the Independent Conference because they are recent powers in Div I-AA, but have not been constant perenial powers. They may join a conference within the next year or two.--
II. Conference Alignment and Changes:
The Big Ten's divisions were realigned geographically. The Legends div. is now the West and consists of-
Minnesota
Iowa
Nebraska
N'Western
Illinois
Wisconsin
The Leaders div. is now the East and consists of-
Ohio St.
Michigan
Michigan St.
Indiana
Purdue
Penn St.
Conference-USA has also undergone some changes. Some teams were replaced by Div. 1-AA teams, so the conference will not be divisional for the 2011-12 season.
The Big East has been stripped of its Automatic Qualifier status because of sanctions put in place after luring TCU into league membership. The league's AQ status will be re-evaluated after the season upon the addition of stronger members due to the departure of Pittsburgh and Syracuse to the ACC.
Conference Alignments will be visible when the Conference Outlooks are released in Week 1.
III. Future Plans/Rules About Conferences
As of 9/26/11, all approved (NOT rumored) conference realignment plans will take affect for the 2012-13 seasons. Meaning- TCU will join the Big East, A&M will join the SEC, etc. I reserve the right to make (realistic) adjustments to the conferences as I see fit and will attempt to utilize the invite system. Thus, a team that has progressively strong years in their lower-tiered conference will be invited to move up into a better conference. This also works in the other direction as well. Geography, previous season records, overall team rating, and program prestige (# of stars a program has) will be the determining factors in conference realignment.
NO CONFERENCE shall have more than 14 members. NO "SUPER" CONFERENCES may be created. Navy and Army must remain independents for at least 3 years before being invited to join a conference, in which case there must be a team to replace each of them in the Div I-A Independents if they both leave. The Div. 1-A Independents must have no less than 2 members at all times.
This section may be amended at any time AFTER the completion of the 1st season.

The first trade of the season happened so I thought I'd give an update on the entire league, but for now here are the trade details:
Jared Dudley to the Raptors in exchange for James Johnson.
Jared Dudley was having a terrible start to the season in Phoenix and his playing time kept going down because of it, he was shooting a career low .319% from the field. The trade was good for Phoenix because they are preparing for the rebuilding process by getting back promising forward James Johnson and now have someone formidable to backup Markieff Morris. He wasnt seeing any playing time in Toronto. Jared Dudley will be recieving more playing time in Toronto and can hopefully turn his terrible season around. Here are what both of the teams rosters look like now:

Around the league:
In the Eastern Conference...
- The Orlando Magic pairing Dwight Howard with Deron Williams has clearly been more effective than Chris Paul joining the New York Knicks.
- The Knicks stumbled out of the gates but are putting it together, they're on a 3 game win streak thanks to a couple lineup tweaks. They are now starting Jon Diebler at the 2 spot. Most of their problems are on the defensive end as they are allowing their opponents to score 105.7 points per game.
- Meanwhile the Orlando Magic have been a force, losing only 1 of their last 14 games, and that was on the road against the Bobcats. They are dominating on both sides of the floor, scoring 106.6 points a game and only allowing 91, that's a 15.5 point differential! They have quickly turned into the early favorites this season.
- The defending champion Boston Celtics have looked strong to start the season. Age is a major concern, and they definitely need to start preparing for the future while at the same time remain competitive. They had a very difficult time stopping the New York Knicks offense which resulted in a loss earlier in the season.
- The Chicago Bulls have been hit by a couple small injuries to Luol Deng, Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah to start the season but it hasn't affected them in the standings too much.
- The Hawks look like their ready to get back into the playoffs after not making it last season, starting Robin Lopez at Center and having Horford play his natural PF position has been effective. That, along with Jeff Teague's progression has this team relevant again after trading away Josh Smith last season.
- The Pistons have been playing well, drafting Austin Rivers was a great move for them, and the continuing development of Brandon Knight makes this teams future look bright.
- After failing to keep Deron Williams last summer, the Nets are back in rebuilding mode but are somehow not far below .500 yet. They are looking to shed some contracts and get under the salary cap.
- The 76ers started off the season without Evan Turner and shortly after lost Elton Brand and Jrue Holiday to injuries. But they just got Evan Turner and Holiday back in their rotation and will look to improve their record.
- The Cavaliers have been terrible, they're on a 12 game losing streak and clearly need an upgrade at the SG spot. Baron Davis currently starts at the 2 for them, but they will either look to trade his expiring contract away or buy him out.
In the Western Conference...
- The Hornets are exceeding expectations this season after losing their franchise player Chris Paul. Wilson Chandler has been playing great but we'll see if they can keep it up.
- The Nuggets have the 5th best record in the West, but there are trade rumors flying around everywhere.
- The Lakers havent been great, Pau Gasol has a nagging injury and Kobe hasnt been shooting the ball well. The acquisition of Anthony Parker to backup Kobe hasnt paid off, they are looking to find a better backup for him. They will probably look to trade Matt Barnes and Steve Blake away too now that they have a promising future PG in Darius Morris.
- The Jazz have been great thanks to Al Jefferson's dominating play, but he went down with an injury and that has hurt them.
- The Spurs started the season off with an injured Nicolas Batum, but now that he's back they've been climbing up the standings.
- The Mavericks started off strong but quickly lost several games and have gone under .500. Dirk wasnt shooting the ball well to start the season but has picked it up, and Tyson Chandler just went down with an injury. They will probably look to make some kind of move to shake things up and get younger, while also staying in contention.
- The Grizzlies started off the season with injuries to Rudy Gay and Marc Gasol but they got Gay back and are working their way back into the playoff chase.
- In Portland Greg Oden went down with yet another injury but he should be back soon. They also lost Raymond Felton for some time but now he's back and they will look to improve their record.
- The Suns lost Channing Frye for the season after an MCL injury. But it was a blessing in disguise because 2nd year PF Markieff Morris has been a beast averaging 15 points and 11 rebounds. They are at the bottom of the standings right now due to their lack of defense. Whenever they do lose Steve Nash it looks like their future is bright with Aaron Brooks, Aaron Afflalo, Markieff Morris and Marcin Gortat. Along with newly acquired James Johnson.

03:49 PM - September 26, 2011. Written by arotwlv
Mount Pleasant, Michigan - Lee Holiday plays like Tom Brady? No, but he like Tom Terrific has already thrown more INT’s very early in the season than the whole season last year. It took Holiday 4 games to surpass his 5 INT mark of last year unlike Tom Brady who broke it in 3 games. On the bright side Lee Holiday was actually able to win his game. Western Michigan finally beat their arch rivals Central Michigan 34-31. Joesph Williams has had a perfect track record so far against fellow MAC opponents, and the Chippewa’s were no different. It had been 8 long years but the Broncos finally managed to beat them. This was an actually close game too, which was not expected. With William’s at helm, WMU has had a 15 plus margin of victory against conference opponents.
How WMU pulled it off: With a huge kickoff return in the second and with an air raid looking offense. Usually Coach Williams has a good mixture of run and pass, but today it was all about the pass. A lot of this was due to their star running back Dave Myers being hurt early in the 3rd. Myers actually was the player of the game with over 270 total yards, but was missed very much in the 4th. Also early in the 1st, WMU went for it on 4th due to being in an awkward spot in the field. They don’t have a kicker, well if you don’t count their water boy who kicks for them. With the 2 early conversions they kept their drives alive and were able to score. Quarterback Lee Holiday also had over 300 yards in the air with 3 touchdowns. He did though throw 2 INT’s which puts his season total at 7. Not good for a player with his skill, but we all make mistakes. Only we don’t have full ride scholarships to play Division 1 athletics.
Why Central lost, and how they managed to almost comeback: Well Central lost because they could not stop WMU in the first half. Also they could not move the ball to save their life. The second half was different. They absolutely pooped on Western’s defense and rushed for 146 yards. They also managed 236 yards in the air, 50 on a botched interception attempt that went wrong. The Chippewa’s loss was due most to not having the ball that long. The Broncos held the ball for 7 more minutes, which could have been enough time for CMU to win the game.
What’s next for both teams: Central Michigan (2-5) goes on to play Northern Illinois (3-2) in which the game could go either ways. CMU has the prolific offense, but one of the worst defenses in the country. NIU is very average all around. We’ll go with the Huskies on this one. For Western Michigan (3-2) they go to play Eastern Michigan (1-4), Yikes. The Ypsilanti hope to, well, I guess not get 70 dropped on them? Eastern Michigan has a worst shot against Western than Appalachian State has against the University of Michigan. Oh wait that didn’t turn out too well did it….. Any way’s EMU has absolutely no shot at all so I’m predicting Western by 40. By Halftime. Just kidding, by the end of the 1st quarter.
