You Suck At Your Job...Let Me In
Posted on November 21, 2008 at 12:30 PM.
"I don't come to McDonald's and tell you how to flip the burgers"

Something bugged me out reading the responses to the Patch 1.02 release for NBA Live 2009.

Now you can love the game or hate it.

But, how are you going to tell developers and producers either how they should do their job or that they basically suck at their job?

Everyone has a right to say what they want to say. I can respect that.

But me, I can just picture someone coming up to my job, looking over my shoulder, telling me, "Hey, move over. You don't know how to do your job."

My response is, I've been doing this for years. I studied this. This is my craft.

Whether or not the results please you, don't question 'how I get down' at my job. I'm a professional and I take pride in what I do. I'm a specialist.

There was a part in the movie 'Training Day' that I love where Alonzo (Denzel) was going to shoot Jake.

He had his gun out and was like, "I'm surgical with this bitch Jake."

That's basically how I feel. I'm nice with mine. Don't tell me how I should do my job because it doesn't please you for some reason.

END OF RANT

I respect where you're coming from, but the sad truth is that a lot of people truly DO suck at their job. Anyone who's spent more than five minutes as an employee of any company in any field could tell you this. Just because you've been doing something for years doesn't mean you're good at it. Matt Millen anyone? Look how long it took the Lions to fire his sorry ***. Incompetence and apathy is rampant. The sad thing is that many of them get away with it, either because they're a suck-up to the boss, they know someone higher-up who is protecting them, or because the boss doesn't have the balls to tell the guy to get the hell out. Let me make it clear that I don't think the majority of people are bad at what they do; there are many fine, upstanding professionals out there who bring a lot to the table and are quality people. The problem is that the incompetents often tend to ruin it for everyone else.

matt! Thanks for the response.

What I'm getting at though is the disrespecting aspect of it all.

I mean...if you suck, then you just suck.

But it's the pompous attitude of 'you don't know what you're doing, let me step in' gaul that I'm talking about.

I feel you. I work with alot of people like that...unfortunately.

Gotcha. Well, I certainly wouldn't pretend to know how to be a doctor or anything like that so I definitely see where you're coming from. I'll call them out for being bad, but I could never pretend to have the ability to step in and do any better. Just like I woudn't know the first thing about programming a video game. There are some things in Madden that frustrate me to no end, but it's still infinitely better than anything I could produce.

In the case that this blog was created, it was absolutely wrong to say that, especially when you can't seem to take your hands off the work that was done.

Maybe its just that your opinions suck since you can't decide whether you like something or not every other day
