2K Sports has survived in the shadow of industry leader EA Sports since its origin as a developer of games for the Sega Dreamcast. Over the years, 2K Sports has produced some highly regarded sports games, including its NBA 2K series, NFL 2K5 and College Hoops 2K8. With the exception of the NBA 2K series, the sales figures for 2K Sports have not matched those of EA Sports. Since 2K has discontinued a handful of their titles, and the low sales of NBA 2K12, sports gamers are beginning to wonder how much longer the company's window will stay open.
We’ll take a look at each sport and where 2K Sports stands at the moment and my outlook for the developer based on that analysis.

The Playstation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace have provided game developers with a way to offer cheap, downloadable games to customers. Many of these downloadable games are old classics, given spruced-up graphics and online capability. With the release of NBA JAM: On Fire Edition and Tecmo Super Bowl recently, it made me think that are other classic sports titles that deserve the PSN/XBL treatment. Here’s a list of “old school” games that would be welcome additions for sports gamers.

With college basketball starting to heat up, many are looking to some classic College Hoops 2k8 to satisfy their basketball gaming needs.
The most recent game in the College Hoops series has been kept alive by dedicated roster makers that continue to produce full, accurate rosters for the current season. This year is no different, with two excellent sets of 360 rosters from Deepball and Raiderfan360.
With over 300 schools, CH 2K8 gamers have plenty of choices for teams to use in a Legacy mode or just play exhibition games. Everyone knows about the powerhouses like Kentucky, North Carolina and Ohio State, but if you're looking for some not-so-famous teams to try out, here's some schools that I found interesting to use.

The last college basketball game released was back in 2009 with EA Sports’ NCAA Basketball 10 and it’s been four years since 2K Sports released a college basketball game, with the much beloved College Hoops 2K8. Both series suffered from poor sales and it is believed that those figures, combined with the high cost of the NCAA license, led to their cancellations. The games were traditionally released in the middle of November, with the exception of a special download-only “March Madness” edition of NCAA Basketball 09 that was released in March of 2009. One frequently talked about issue with the sales involves the November release date. So it makes me wonder if that date was changed, would the sales increase?

Like the NFL 2K series and the MVP Baseball series from EA Sports, the College Hoops series is a defunct series that sports gamers have been missing since the legendary College Hoops 2K8. With all of the improvements to NBA 2K since CH 2K8’s release in 2007, fans can only envision what the team at 2K could do with the series now. What if 2K was releasing College Hoops 2K12? Here’s what the OS review might look like.

In my last article, I listed out the ten greatest teams that I’d like to see added to NBA 2K12's Greatest Mode. While I was doing my research for the article, I said to myself “Wouldn’t it be fun to play with some of the worst NBA teams of all-time?” It would be a challenge to try to pull off monumental upsets against the all-time great teams, or to rebuild a laughingstock into a contender in Association mode. At the very least, it would allow for the Clippers to have an entry in the Greatest mode. Here are my suggestions for the best of the worst:

NBA's Greatest mode is one of the most popular features in NBA 2K12. NBA fans enjoy the ability to play with legends like Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Isaiah Thomas. But why stop at the 34 teams available in 2K12? There is no reason why these ten teams should not be in the next installment of the 2K basketball series.

Think the NBA Lockout is going to ruin your basketball gaming experience this fall? There are plenty of ways to hit the virtual courts while the owners and players argue about more money than any of us, even Steve, will ever see.
