Were about to hit the end of the NHL regular season, and playoff seedings are starting to take form as there are roughly 10 games left for each team. The format of the NHLs qualification system allows for some potentially intriguing first-round playoff matchups.

I'm going to take a look at a couple of these possibilities, using NHL 17 to take a quick snapshot of players from each team to give us an idea of some of the strengths of the teams.

With NBA teams either throwing in the towel for the year, fighting for a spot in the playoffs, or resting their stars to prep for a deep playoff run, we're in the final stretch of the season. In the Eastern and Western Conferences, the teams holding the 7th and 8th seeds are playing for their lives to hold their spots and make it to the Second Season. The teams in the 9th and 10th spots are attempting to move into 8th and play spoiler.

After the trades that went down before the deadline, and the free agency acquisitions that have been made, what are the 7 to 10 spots looking like going into crunch time? The layouts of the conferences in the East and the West at the fringes (7 to 10) are looking interesting.

Every so often we get to play a game that changes or revolutionizes a genre. For basketball games, we always had our arcade style games: Double Dribble, Arch Rivals and Tecmo NBA Basketball are a few that instantly come to mind for me that I played as a kid that had sim elements but were more of an arcade feel. NBA Jam and NBA Hangtime really changed the way we looked at a basketball game, especially with the implementation of their Wow! elements, exaggerated gameplay and the fun we had time in and out playing those games.

Over time, various games on various systems tried to relive that fun feel. NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC brought back the nostalgic feeling of the NBA Jam series with some flavor of its own. The NBA Street series released by EA Sports revitalized the genre and was widely and critically acclaimed and well received. But its been awhile since weve had a viable streetball title to enjoy...10 years to be exact. Enter 3 On 3 Freestyle.

Growing up as an '80s baby, I was introduced to sports VERY early on. The last sport I was introduced to was basketball. I'll never forget "Mickey Dordan" as I used to call His Airness; I was three. As I grew older and followed the elegance that was basketball, I always stuck to the Chicago Bulls. They were the first team I got to see play on TV. Michael Jordan was the first player I got to know.

I scrutinize and criticize everything the team does. Sometimes I like to think that I could probably run the team better than Gar Forman, so why not try to rebuild the Bulls to the greatness they once were? That's when I blew the dust off of my PS4 and booted up good old NBA 2K17. And that's where this fantastic voyage begins.

When I start MyGM in NBA 2K17, one of the first things I do is look at my team roster. What are its weaknesses? Who are my best players? Who can I unload to try and improve my team?

One thing that is thoroughly enjoyable (for me at least) is taking my team and building a powerhouse based on youth and potential. The team might be average to begin with, but after a season or two -- and some improvement in player ratings -- my young studs usually grow into seasoned monsters.

Ive taken the liberty of listing the top five young players at each position who have high potential and a high ceiling. You can target these players to help your team immediately, or after a few seasons of growth. The players are listed based on in-game overall; potential and basic info can be seen as well.

The NHL season is in full swing, and we've already witnessed some fantastic hockey early in the season, especially from the rookies and younger players in the league (I'm no Leafs fan but Auston Matthews is a BEAST).

Over a month into its cycle, we're also experiencing some great gameplay from NHL 17. The developers have made sure to stay on top of delivering a solid and fluid experience for folks new and old.

Now that we're more than a month into the game, let's take a look and see if NHL 17 is still worth your dollars.

As sports gamers, the one thing many of us look for in the titles we choose to play is the realism of the game. How does the real-life game translate over to its sim title? Does the gameplay feel the same as what we get to watch on TV? How do the graphics look?

One thing that many of us as sports gamers also look at is the fidelity of the game, and how it is presented to us while we play. From pregame setup and intro, to the atmosphere and emotion during the game -- including crowds, proper play-by-play/color commentary and teammate reactions -- to stat overlays and player information, to halftime (if applicable) and postgame shows/information.
