It has taken six seasons, but the New York Yankees are finally back in the World Series. It seemed just as inevitable that Derek Jeter finally has another game with his name splattered all over it, Derek Jeter Real Baseball.

I also just want to get this out of the way before we go any farther into this review: If you do not like Derek Jeter, Derek Jeter Real Baseball may not be the game for you. Just trust me, unless you are a glutton for punishment.

Developed and released by Gameloft, Derek Jeter Real Baseball is one part baseball sim and one part holy relic to the long-time captain of the Yankees. What Derek Jeter Real Baseball is not is a great game, but it also is not a terrible game.

For a $5 download on the iTunes App Store, you will get a baseball game with some annoying flaws. However, during those moments when there is nothing else to do, you will find that Derek Jeter Real Baseball is an adequate game to turn to when you want to cure bouts of boredom.

Everything you have been told about competition in the sports-gaming industry is a lie.

There is something that happens when someone tells you that everything you believe in isn't true. It shakes you at your foundations. You tend to want to resist the change. You sometimes want to brush aside any information that could radically change your way of thinking, instead opting for the normal and ordinary.

However, the change has arrived today. The information you are about to read will change your perceptions of the sports videogame industry forever. The information below is going to show, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the theory that competition creates better games for the consumer is pure baloney.

The Big 12 has been all about Oklahoma and Texas for the past decade. Since the year 2000, only two teams have won Big 12 Championships outside of Oklahoma and Texas (Colorado, Kansas State). This year figures to be no different with the two titans from the South overshadowing any foes from the North.

Oklahoma State could make a run at the south like Texas Tech did last year, but winning it outright will be nearly impossible without some help. Look for Nebraska to be the odds-on favorite to win the North and possibly be the suprise team nationally of 2009.

It's fair to say that the Pac-10 has traditionally been ruled by USC -- the Trojans have logged 38 total conference titles over the years. And this decade, the Trojans have won seven straight conference championships.

This year the teams that have the best shot at ending the seven-year streak are California, Oregon, Arizona and Oregon State. Among those squads, Cal seems to be the closest to upending the Trojans in 2009. Either way the league should get at least six teams into bowl games at the end of this year, with both Arizona State and Stanford also possibly being eligible by the end of the season.

Parity rules in the Big East. For that simple reason it is very hard to predict what team will be Big East champs at the end of the year. Parity is also the reason why -- with a few breaks -- I could easily see a team like Louisville or UConn competing for the league championship.

But if I had to choose a favorite to win the conference, then it would have to be South Florida. However, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, West Virginia or Cincinnati could easily win the conference as well. Expect the Big East to be a very competitive conference, and for the winner to perhaps not even have 10 wins.

NCAA Football’s dynasty mode is one of sports gaming’s most heralded career modes. Not only has the mode been the most popular mode in NCAA Football for nearly a decade, it also took it’s act online to great success beginning last year.

Unfortunately, after just over a decade of incremental improvements, the mode has began to suffer from a lack of innovation and ultimately, it just feels stale.

Outside of the presentation, dynasty mode is one of the biggest reasons why NCAA Football 10 ultimately falls short of being praised as a great title. The mode itself is still technically good, but long-time players of the series are quick to remark how little the mode has seemed to change over the past few years.

If I told you Michael Myers and Halloween have a lot in common with EA Sports NCAA Football, you’d probably tell me I was crazy.

However, at a closer glance, they are more alike than you may realize. Both series have resorted to the same philosophy of not straying too far off of the formula which worked to originally elevate each franchise. Unfortunately, that philosophy of sticking close to an established formula tends to have a limited lifespan before a series becomes stale, and NCAA Football is dangerously close to that point.

The approach to the NCAA Football series has been relatively the same since NCAA Football 99, with only incremental improvements each year building on top of the previous package. However, just as with Halloween, the core tenets of the series have remained the same to solid financial success. But just as with Halloween, the same act seems to be getting tired.

NCAA Football 10 isn’t a bad game by any means, but the game represents only a marginal upgrade over last year's title overall, which leaves you wondering if we'll ever see a truly great NCAA Football anytime soon.

MLB.com posted an article today which profiles MLB '09: The Show, which talks about the game's features. The spotlight on the front page of MLB.com calls The Show the most realistic game ever.

Quote:
The 2008 season that landed Pedroia on the cover of the game, which is available exclusively for the PlayStation3, PlayStation2 and PSP systems, was one in which the second-year Boston Red Sox second baseman did a little bit of everything.

Fittingly, the same goes for MLB 09 The Show, which has brought out the bells and whistles once again to continue to improve the gaming experience.

WOMEN'S COLLEGE SOFTBALL COMING TO A CONSOLE NEAR YOU

Operation Sports will be developing the best game ever made, Women's College Softball.

TUNIS, TUNISIA - April 1, 2009 - After ten very successful years covering sports video games, the worldwide destination for every possible thing relating to sports gaming will be entering the game development world with an exciting new title, Women's College Softball.

The game, slated for release in Q2 2010, will offer gamers a new and exciting experience on the Playstation 3 and XBox 360 consoles. The game will mix the exciting real to life softball action on the field with the scandalous off-the-field issues you have come to know and expect from Women's College Softball.

"We have always felt we knew how to develop games better than the developers," said Operation Sports' CEO Steve Noah, "Why else do you think we review the games? With Women's College Softball, you have an under-appreciated sport that gets absolutely terrible ratings whenever it is on TV, what is not to like with bringing the sport to a console near you?"

The game will feature ultra realistic action and will retail for a mere $59.99. There will be a special Jenny Finch edition of the game which will include extras which will cost $79.99. The Jenny Finch edition of the game will also carry an M rating.

Women's College Softball is developed in Tunis, Tunisia by Operation Sports which provides all of the latest and greatest reviews, previews and more.

Let us just get one thing out of the way, MLB 09: The Show is the best next-gen sports game yet. It is a must-own title, and anyone who is even remotely interested in baseball should consider checking it out.

It is also one of the deeper, more complex and realistic sports games I have ever gotten the chance to play. Simply put, games like High Heat and MVP can now be put on the shelf in the Sanner household because The Show has finally surpassed them.

Now, at this point of the review, I must stress that MLB 09: The Show is not perfect. There are several little bugs and interesting happenings that will make you shake your head like catchers sometimes do after a foul ball. But from my experience, these negatives only slightly detract from the overall package.

If NASCAR Kart Racing was an athlete, it would be Kyle Korver. In other words, it is far from being a big deal but is still quite serviceable.

NASCAR Kart Racing is a clone of Mario Kart, for better or worse. The big problem is that NASCAR Kart Racing does not do kart racing quite as well as Mario Kart does kart racing. But, I would be lying if I said I did not enjoy the game -- some of the gameplay mechanics were relatively fun, and the control scheme works really well.

Call it what you want, but 3-on-3 NHL Arcade is EA's first attempt at bridging the gap that separates the fans and non-fans of hockey.

So, mission accomplished?

While 3-on-3 NHL Arcade is not a bad game -- it technically plays well and really is kind of fun -- it just does not have any lasting appeal.

If I used baseball terms to describe last year's MLB: The Show, I would say it was a solidly hit ball that drove in a few runs.

After playing the demo for MLB 09: The Show, I think the term I might use to describe this year's game is walk-off grand slam.

Now, this is a demo, and I know that, but the stage is set for what might be the best sports game to come around in quite some time. There are lingering questions, such as how the stat engine will work and how good the Franchise mode improvements are, among other things.

However, make no mistake about it, this game will be money -- pure, unlimited, beautiful money.
