EA needs to take a page or two from other games. The Legacy Mode got boring and stale very quick. There was not much to get excited about with this mode. EA needs to realize depth to a game will not make less fun.

There are so many games out there with incredible ideas that EA Fight Night producers can look at to get ideas. The Smackdown vs. Raw has a very good career mode. There are cards you can appear on. You actually have other wrestlers approach you for a match.

Smackdown has a Pay-Per-View Card feature that would work good with the Fight Night series. The hype for this would be incredible within your Legacy/Career mode.

Training and Fight more should definitely be allowed. If you knock someone out quickly without getting hurt you should be able to fight again as soon as possible.

You should be able to be challenged by boxers from all over the world. If you fight in a different country it should have that presentation and feel like you are in another country.

Rules should apply for what state, country or belt you are a defending. If my boxer fights in Nevada, the rules of Nevada should apply. We also should be able to use past rules.

Fight Night needs more details to fights that happened or will happen. People love details, news articles, magazines covers, etc; Legacy mode had some good ideas, but they were not deep enough.

Joining a gym and finding a manager and trainer. You should be able to join a gym and later own a gym that you can add equipment to. Managers and trainers should have tendencies that you can edit before for you start a career and add them to a pool to chose from, other fighter may randomly chose managers and trainers with likeness/tendencies to real life trainers and managers(you created)

Manager Mode
should let players take control of their own stable of boxers. You should be able to take your boxers all the way to the top and win world championship belts of all three Organizations. You start out with a small team of talented boxers or boxers that may have potential. You will have to hire trainers who will train your boxers, sign on new up-and-comers from a pool of boxers. You should be able to set up bouts and determine tactics and techniques before and during the events. You should have boxers wanting to be part of your stable if you are successful in getting good fights and getting titles fights for your boxers.
A managers should always pay attention to his finances: does he have the money to take on better a staff in order to improve training? Can he promote his boxing events with TV ads, drawing crowds and earning big bucks, or will he have to make do with a small note in the local papers?

This definitely will bring longevity to the game.


There's so many possibles for a deep career mode, but EA has to really dig deep.
Gameplay

Too arcadish for many players- Many fans were turned off by the stamina and ability to throw too many punches without consequences.

Presentation and depth to the game was limited and boring after a while.

Boxer AI showed no real representation of the boxers they were supposed to be. Boxer styles were mostly the same. A.I. made all CPU fighters the same.

Counter Freezes

Things that made fighters Champions and Legends are not present in the game. The Jab has no effectiveness, Clinching is useless, and Pure Boxers cannot use movement to get opponent's to walk into punch thus doing bigger damage. The game was "disproportionately skewed" to create in-fights no matter who you had.

The Haymakers. I got 4 words for them. They Need To Go. They got 3 strikes and they need to be out just like the parries had its 3 strikes and it was out. The haymakers in FN series need to go, and they need to focus on making every punch count like in FN 2004, and add more signature punch moves in the next game and make them more effective like they are in real boxing, and David Haye's signature punch the Hayemaker should be a signature punch move, instead of doin' a hadouken like Ken, Ryu & Akuma of Street Fighter.(Papinosis)

Presentation
Presentation was very limited

Short ring walks, lack of stats reported during introductions, lack of drama with decisions, awkward judging, and no replay coverage or broad cast camera.


Online
Online was too exploitable without the correct fixes added
Connectivity issues online prohibit some players from matching up (even by invite).
. Hidden records online with points given according to the level of opponents.

Legacy/Career
Legacy wasn't what it was hyped up to be and repetitive

You could not change anything about your fighter other than his clothing once you started his career, not his fighting style, not even his hair style! Also you never saw any awards once your name leaves the screen after you "win" one.

Customization and options
The Create A Boxer (CAB) Mode was a disappointment to many fans. The options for this mode were very limited. Many fans feel like it didn’t live up to the hype.

. Why are we doo-woppin' in FNR4 with the advance sliders were moving in unison like the Barbershop Quartet. And this is in my department/my neck off the woods, and when I was trying to make boxers, all I hear was doo-wopping, man I was hearing people in the background and I thought I was delusional but it started to happen to many fans around da globe when they were making a boxer in the game.(Papinosis)

Options and customization was limited

Not giving us enough sliders and settings for AI and CAB features etc.

The buttons not being available at launch. A lot of people chose other games (UFC) because of that . And the buttons were inferior because you can't throw body shots while moving.

EA need alot of depth and options to keep people interested, boxing is basically two guys throwing punches at each other, it's only when you break it down into the sweet science that it becomes so interesting. They need to give is the ability to do everything that can be done in the actual boxing world.

Many fans want to know the goals/vision of what the Producers. Are they after a Complete representation of the sport or are they still looking for a sweet spot between realism and "fun" aspects?




Fight Night should have been geared more toward the boxing fans and the hardcore after Facebreaker was released. If EA built a realistic boxing game people will play! Many of these casual and hardcore gamers like games so they will buy it anyway. The Sports gamer and boxing fan will play the game the longest if done right so they should be catered to.

1 OVERVIEW

Fight Night Round 4 was a great game, probably the best boxing game to date and a great foundation to build on. The physics engine was a great innovation and removing all the gimmicks for R3 was a smart move, but other some mistakes were also made. Though the game was great, many people were turned off by the lack of buttons and for others the game got old really quick. The reason for that is that the game needed more DEPTH, CONSTUMIZATION and OPTIONS in all aspects of the game to give it more long term playability. Meaning gameplay, online, CAB, presentation, etc, especially in a boxing game. This is why POECTIC created a whish list thread on the EA forums and then built his dream team of wisher; we have worked together and organized the best wishes in a reader friendly manner. 3 GAMEPLAY
Make the game a true boxing simulation, simulation is not a synonymous with boring, on the contrary it adds more depth. A simulation boxing game should allow you to do exactly what real boxers can do in real life. If someone wants to try to rush another boxer and try to draw him into a brawl that’s his choice but the game shouldn’t have the flaw of forcing me to fight his fight, which is the case right now. Give us the full arsenal that a boxer has at his disposal for offense and defense.

 TKO stoppages-(Stoppages by the ref/doctor/corner men from damage and cuts)
 Pre-fight instructions with authentic refs

 Stops due to too many unanswered punches

 Physicality, there needs to be more not punch related physical contact during infighting, i.e. leaning, taller heavier boxers should be able to lean on other boxers to affect their stamina.
 Better Ropes physics make them less stiff there are a lot more threw the rope KO’s in reality.
 Leaning on the ropes should help recover stamina
 Spaghetti-legs - where are the wobbly legs? After a knockdown sometimes your legs get stiff.

 There should be torso stances and footwork styles separately-For
instance Larry Holmes and Muhammad Ali had very similar torso stances
but different footwork styles.

 Off balance/Flash knockdowns (when you’re not hurt and can get up very easily) Balance should be more of a factor. If a fighter is tired he may lose balance, Rushing forward may collide with the ropes, the other fight, or a punch. A fighter may miss a haymaker and fall.

 Lower punch accuracy/punch tracking (this is set way to high and robs guys like Whitaker of his abilities

 The Jab (Should have more power and also offset your opponents punches on occasion and should also stop your opponent in there tracks when walking into the punch) overall the jab needs to play a more important role in terms of strategy and gameplay
 -Offsetting your opponents punches (on occasion when a clean punch is landed as your opponent is throwing a punch it should offset your opponent’s punches causing them to miss you. It’s another form of a counter that is not currently represented )
 Health Meter and Damage( Health should regenerate slower and standard power punches should have a bigger impact on health)
 Quicker more responsive footwork

 If you keep illegal blows fix them and make them more realistic, make them look like accidents i.e. leaning in with the head as if you about the throw a punch it shouldn’t be a sure hit




3.1 Add flurries

Pros: Good for finishing your opponent or just landing shots
Cons: Lose in stamina and accuracy, also can leave you open for counters

3.2 Evasive Roll
Similar to the bob n weave mechanic only it allows you to slip and move left or right, similar movements could be performed using quarter circle motions

3.3 Shoulder Roll

3.4 The one-two Combination

I would like to see a distinct animation for this combo to add realism.
Currently the jab has to retract before cross is thrown which makes it
seemed robotic; also the boxer doesn't lean into the cross at all. To
simplify it I would like to see this


3.5 Feinting, Taunting, Taking a knee & switching stances
Could be implemented by using the 4 directions on the D pad, right now the D pad isn’t used at all. It would also free up one of the Left bumper currently used for switching stances.

3.6 Punching from the guard
In the game now we bring both hands down before throwing, the problem is that when holding down the R Trigger the R Analog stick is high jacked and is used to block up or down. My solution would be to down use the now freed left bumper to hold the block up or down consequently freeing the right stick to throw punches. That way you can finally use text book boxing and protect one side of your head or body while you throw a punch. What I like with that solution is that it’s not automatic you have to remember to do this to block while you throw; the better more disciplined fighters will take advantage.

3.7 Leaping/lunging punch

I was trying stuff out on the controller and I think that pressing down on the R stick before performing your punch motion should perform a leaping punch. Either that your using the current haymaker bumper as a leaping punch modifier

3.8 Second gear speed

I like Edgeshot’s idea of flicking the L Analog stick in one direction twice and holding it there, you could change directions by moving the stick around, but you would only come back to normal speed if you brought the stick back to the center. If that’s not possible pressing the analog stick before moving like in FPS games

3.9 Slipping while moving
Only for certain fighters with high foot speed, head movement and agility ratings. This is what gave me the hardest time. What I think is that we should use quarter circle moves right now, there are still 6 semi circle moves that do nothing on the Left Analog stick. Look at all the examples given my Mackmoon like the shoulder roll for example. Maybe flicking the stick and letting go could let us step with our slip.


3.10 Moving while you’re punching

They should be animated as a "step in jab" and "Step in straight" The jab should work to stop your opponent’s forward progress, and the Straight should drop or stun you if it lands and take longer to recover from if it misses. There should be no wind up, just the step in. This will allow for a Real One-Two combo. Right now when throwing a punch it halts you because you set your feet when throwing, this is mainly because there is one animation for each punch. We should be able to punch while I’m stepping in, backing up or moving side ways, we shouldn’t be forced to stop first. We should only set our feet when we aren’t moving the directional stick. All EA Canada has to do is use madden 10’s new layered blending animation technology, where the upper body can start a new animation while the lower body keeps going with another animation.

When you throw the straight while moving in second gear you should step forward with your back foot and cross your feet committing completely to the punch (risky should leave you open and off balance).

3.11 Throwing punches with varying power

This way we can get rid of the stupid haymakers we have now plus free up he buttons. In Madden they have Lob, Touch, and Bullet passing, why not have a Pawing, normal and Stiff/Loaded punch system for Fight Night, in addition to the Haymakers, which would then be animated differently? It would work for both the buttons and the sticks, with 3 different punch animations depending on how long you press/hold the stick/button. It would probably easier with straight punches for the sticks, for hooks and uppers you would just swing through the normal motion. Each punch would have a different "frame count" for how long the animation took to complete.

Pawing being the shortest/safest option and almost look like the "feints" on Controller Config. 3. Normal Straights hooks and uppers would look as they do now. And Stiff/Loaded shots would require you hold the stick/button a bit longer for straight shots, (for stiff jabs, or more powerful straights). But on the sticks, for hooks and uppers you would have to punch through the target. For example with a loaded left hook, you would start the motion at 9 o'clock and end at 3 o'clock in a half circle motion. This would a fast punch with a longer recovery time if you missed. It would also take the most stamina.

If something like this is implemented that would easily triple the number of punches we have from 6 to 18, add punch angles, and reach factors and we are getting much closer to a true representation of the punch arsenal in boxing. This idea is still being fine tuned, but any feedback is appreciated.

3.12 Punch retraction animation seed:

Punch speed to me is perfect, what seems off is the speed at which we can retract our punches. It’s too fast; it’s just as fast as throwing the punch when it needs to be a tad bit slower. The numbers I’ll use are completely arbitrary; let’s say a straight right animation takes 20 frames (10 extensions 10 for retraction). The retraction animation should take more like 14 frames. It would make it more realistic, boxers throw the punch with a lot of velocity but don’t bring it back as fast unless they are bringing it back to block. This fact is one of the reason people can pepper the same punch at an unrealistic speed at the moment in FNR4.

3.13 Arm Muscle fatigue/Lactic Acid build up:

This is not represented in the game; I am not talking about stamina here, 2 completely different things. Right now in the game you can throw all your punches with one arm and there would be no consequence. There should be another HUD bar for arm muscle fatigue. I was able to pepper 300+ jabs at Gamboa in one round on GOAT whiteout slowing down whatsoever not realistic, this would also help to address the spamming of the same punch being so affective.

 The amateur mode should be yearly with the option of going up to age 26 (start at 17) with the severe option of going into the late 20s and taking a serious hit in some attributes, but gaining series other attributes. When you progress through the years it shouldn't be repeatitive meaning ever year you do very well the competition is gunning for u and its harder to advance to tournaments unless your are that good.
 Advancing to tourneys like the golden gloves (to the states, regionals, districts, nationals, olympic training center, olympic team, world championships, Pan-Am.....back to club shows and moving thru to get to golden gloves again with the option to travel to different states, thus different training different trainers, different experience) diamond gloves. Should be a story behind it, (road to glory like NCAA) with each advancement you get trophies, plaques, news paper articles etc. ESPN coverage...
 Moving to the pros means a media day depending on how well you did with ya amateur career. Press conference for signing, but after you sign your are on the bottom moving up, but based on your resume your popularity is up or down.
 Through your career advancement you should be able to get the options to have training, going out on the town etc (similar to UFC) should have a rival from the amateurs ie mosley-forrest and press coverage behind it as well as your advancement (news articles on various sites, radio talk (like kirk herbstriet on road to glory)
Major fights in your career should have a press conference with options to answer like Mass Effect, thus making you the villian or the hero, the crowd loving you are hating you, your opponent wanted to make a good fight or trying to knock off ur block. Have a lot of media members, the stare down the weigh in as well.

Traveling to other countries for big fights should be introduced

I want the old school black and white for older fights like SRR and a presentation similar to the AFL Legcay pack for madden for Foreman_Ali matches.

Multiple commentary should be available for all fights.



5.1 Era-specific career modes:

This may have been mentioned before, but I think it would be cool to create a boxer to compete in different eras with one goal in mind: To take down the different greats of that era. I feel that the realism is taken away from that game when I have Ali or Hearns fighting in my legacy as contenders in 2010. I'm glad I currently have the ability to remove them from my legacy. I think it would be cool to start you career in the late 70's/early 80's when guys like Ray Leonard, Hearns, Foreman, and others were ruling the day. Around that time, guys like Iron Mike would just be starting out.

ONE of the objectives would be to LAST LONG ENOUGH to meet these ring legends. It shouldn't be automatic that you'll be able to rise through the ranks to beat these guys, as you would still be challenged by fantasy boxers. What should also be taken into consideration is how long the ring legends will keep boxing. It would force the player to rise quickly but sharpen his craft at the same time. How cool would it be to fight in the time of Ali, Frazier and Foreman (with all of their historic bouts going on in real time, and you having the chance to change to course of history), only to rise to their level and beat them all? To me, the GOAT ranking would have more meaning in the game. Of course for current eras, it would have to be a purely mathematical and theoretical ranking based on wins and domination of the current greats.

5.2 Amateur things

-Olympic Games... If it has copyrights and that’s not needed. Give it an own name... “World Games” or whatever. An arena in China and let the Legacy Mode start at around 2008. I want to fight for my country and win a medal... I guess most ppl don’t care so much for the Amateur mode... but I think everybody would love to fight for a gold medal.

Important things to give it an real feel:
- Amateurs wear a sleeveless-shirt
- in every weight class there is only one fighter from one country
- traditional good amateur boxing countries should be represented as such
- judges score on landed shots and not after Pro rules (ring generalship etc.)

5.3 Promoters

Great way to add longevity to this game. Promoters with different attitudes and skills... father figure (brings you up slowly), don mafia like (somebody who uses you as long as he needs you and afterwards probably doesn’t get you a match in a year), former star boxer (somebody who can bring you up faster and make you much money), star maker (somebody who’s been long in the business and simply always chooses the right opponent, the right challenge and doesn’t do too much), Selfish one (if he sees big bucks he will throw you to the lions) and if you become famous enough you should be able to promote yourself.

5.4 Sparring Partners

To me it would add another level of strategy if you could pay for sparring sessions with boxers who would emulate your next opponent’s style and tendencies. The better the boxer, the better he can emulate your next opponent’s style, the more expensive he would be. You would use the earnings you won from your previous fights to pay for him. There boxers would be boxers who exist in your career mode which would make things interesting because you could potentially meet them later. These paid sparring sessions could also increase your ratings. The sparring partners in your gym or stable could be free.


5.5 Superstars have demands

Many fights today don’t happen because of demands. It would be great to have something like a contract battle for some fights. Things like gloves, weight (catch weight if in different weight classes), purse split, ring size probably even the arena. If you now finally lured in a Big Star into an fight he will probably have some demands... and it’s up to you to decide if you agree or don’t. If you want it bad you will agree probably even if it’s to your disadvantage.

-Clips of your last fight
-Commentators- talk about your last fight or fights

5.6 Real Life Counterparts

The additions of boxers I want in Legacy Mode are great. But please let me put them in as old as they are and with their record. I understand that some of them will be retired when I’m finally on top but that’s ok. If they are, they are... then that’s the way it is... I have no problem fighting created fighters as long as they are created with love by the producers.

I should be able to decide if they are truly their age... for example Roy Jones would be as old as he is in 2009 and I would also want to turn his ratings down. It should be possible for the real fighters to have it accurate...

It would also be nice if I turn pro and decide on my weight class if there is something like an introduction video. If you come into an division you usually know the champs, former champs etc. But because we will never have all boxers together there are a lot of created boxers in there and it would be nice if former champs, prospects, ducked fighters, hard punching fighters, technical fighters get introduced in a little clip or something. It’s only needed for the top guys... probably 10 or 12 in a division. Probably with a little back story to them so they get a more real feel to them. If I fight Cotto I know how he fights, his story etc. but if I fight an unknown who supposed to be good it would be nice to get something of their background as well; probably about their fights against other fighters in the division etc. It would make them feel far more real. I know it’s a bit of work but I think a lot of ppl would love to help you out with ideas.

Backgrounds if not videos are really necessary. It gives a feel of fighting a real person.

5.7 Trainers

Have a pool of trainer’s actual licensed ones with fictional ones. Have use pay for them, to should have ratings indicating how good they are, they should also improve and get worst, they would have specialties depending on ratings. There ratings would help your career boxers improve his own ratings. The better the trainer the more expensive. You would hire a trainer first like madden and hiring coaches in Franchise mode.





5.8 Money Spender

I hope there are some things to spend my money on. Boxing, Training, Trainers and sparring partners should be the priority but if I have some money I want to spend it. Probably an own house with all my trophies and titles I have... probably able to bet money on other fights... create an own cloth company or something... buy cloth that I could wear in press conferences or at training sessions... build my own gym just for me... an own promotion company... something like that.

5.9 Message Center

So repetitive, we get the same messages "this person is a champ" or "you've been nominated for an award", instead of doing this why not incorporate a newspaper system? Where headlines are made from fights, where it can have an image on the front with a title such as "Tyson beats Frazier to reclaim the title!" or something? You've implemented it in FIFA so why not on here?

5.10 Arrange Fights

This is the main reason where after a while, Legacy Mode becomes boring. You might be the holder of all 3 belts, but the 1 - 5 ranked people below you are always the same, so you’re constantly fighting the same people! Fighting Tyson 5 or 6 times gets very repetitive and boring, so maybe some more fighters could be added to spice it up or unexpected challengers or something? I don't know but I’m sure EA could easily find a solution.

5.11 End of Year Awards

7(4)-3-1 beat me for the Hot Prospect Award when I have 8(6)-0-0? How are they better than me? This is a bug that can be fixed but this isn't the main reason I’ve addressed these awards, it's because they're not detailed enough.
When there's the Knockout of the Year Award I wouldn't mind seeing it? Or fight of the year? Is it too hard to chuck in a feature to watch them?
This has reminded me, when we win these awards where do they go? We don't have a trophy cabinet or anything so what’s the point in even getting them? This could tie into the newspaper feature mentioned earlier, where a newspaper page is you holding the award with the title "Tyson wins Fighter of the Year Award for fourth year in a row" or something.

the bigger you get the bigger the entrances. If you the main event fighter you should really have the real thing. Entrances should be a bit tighter. There should be security men around you. Some hands of fans hang in the way. Probably the boxer touches them. There should be a cut scene to the fans (probably with flags) while marching toward the ring, up the stairs into the ring.

 Ring announcement with the real boxers doing their celebration. i.e Jermain Taylor with his bad intentions bull move etc.

 Decisions should be made like in real life and not direct after the fight is over. There probably should be a cut to Teddy Atlas who gives you his scorecard (Letterman style). Animations like the boxer gets his gloves cut. Both boxers shake hands and with the opponents corner. Both come together in the middle ring (the ring is always crowded) and it gets announced... probably a split screen... real life presentation.

14 TENDENCIES

In FNR4 there are 8 different boxer base styles. This was a good improvement but when fighting the AI certain boxers didn’t really simulate what the boxer does in real life. This was due to some things missing in game play and because their boxers AI tendencies weren’t accurate. That’s why most people want tendency sliders in the next installment of FNR5. Now when you would make a CAB you want to fight you can create him accurately. You can check the java application I’ve done to give an idea go to the reference section.

16 MISCELLANEOUS

16.1.1 Custom Configurations

Well the reason being that I created this list is because the lack of freedom and selections into choosing how you want to customize your configurations. Shoot If the 007 games for N64, WWF No Mercy, Slam masters, All the DBZ games both English & Japanese, unreal tournament and I can go on and on with games that included that feature. But how come we do not have it on a FN game for all gaming consoles. Shoot this is 2009 for gods sake, if different game titles from the 1990's - 2000's could have why not a boxing game. And in FNR3 I was able to use both buttons & sticks with config. 6, it was like just right for my style and skills, and it was flowing' in harmony like a church boy singing in a church choir. And ever since they switched up the controls in this installment, to be brutally honest with you guys, they caged my config #6 from FNR3 which was my all time favorite, but in end my friends, it died. How your going to put the lean modifier with the push modifier with clinch, illegal shots and such and such, and it throws of the whole configuration, and you end up not throwing your right or left hook but instead you end up doing a clinch or a low blow which I do not want to do when I'm boxing my opponent seriously. And it makes it seem like the D-Pad is just their for decoration, its just their for nothing. And you cannot even use the TPC or TPC Modifier with the config #6 in this game. Like for example I would use the right d-pad to clinch, the left d-pad to push, the down d-pad for illegal shots, the up d-pad to touch gloves, select button for taunts. So here's a full blown example of what I'm trying to bring to the table. Here's the breakdown how I set up my configuration for the XBOX360.

If EA was able to allow us to have freedom with the way how we use our custom configs, this would make a lot of gamer’s lives a whole lot easier. The 2000's are gonna be over before you know it, because in the 2010's that will highly be recommended to have freedom with your own configurations. This is for those who want to get comfortable with their own configs to have the best experience with FNR5. Custom Config is definitely a must in FNR5.

16.2 New modes

We should have create a title, tournament, round robin, match maker (create a PPV) mode in the next installment in the game. Here’s a quick breakdown for this

In "Create a Title" you can make your own championship belt and compete and defend championships against boxers for it. Finally, in have records for you reign as champion and when you had how many successful title defenses and when you lost your championship.

16.2.3 Tournament Mode

Tournament Mode brackets should be able to have up to 3 - 32 boxers competing in a tournament for both Offline & Online.

16.2.4 Round Robin Mode

Well, round robin is almost like tournament mode, but you fight everybody whos in the brackets like for example, if your #2 on the bracket, and you fight against #27 and you beat him you earn 2 points, you en up fighting # 19 and you draw with him both you & him have earned 1 point. And when you fight #30 and lose to him you earn 0 points.
When the round robin tournament is over it adds up all the points, theres gonna be times when you win the tournament and theres times when you tied with somebody else. When your tied with someone else in the tournament you guy fight in sudden death to see who wins 1st place in the round robin tournament. Round Robin brackets should be able to have up to 3 - 30 boxers competing in the tournament.


16.2.5 Match Maker Mode

Here's an interesting concept; instead of just boxing away, why not try your hand at a little match making? That's right, in this mode you decide the matches! Hopefully the next Fight Night should have Match Maker Mode detailed as Fire Pro Wrestling's, Fire Pro's Management of the Ring, this mode has its charms. Upon picking Match Maker Mode, you'll hit the first menu, where you will select which Fed to Match Make - WBC, WBO, WBA, IBF, IBO, RING Magazine or Lineal. You'll get different rosters for each fed as well as and different mentors: - WBC has Jose Sulaiman, WBO has Ramon Pina Acevedo, WBA has Gilberto Mendoza, IBF has Hiawatha Knight, IBO has Ed Levine, RING Magazine has some old geezer, and Lineal has some old geezer also.

If you press Y, you'll see a ranking of the best Shows booked in terms
of Attendance and Average Match Ratings.

Upon picking a Fed, you'll chat with your respective mentor, and then you
can start playing around your little office for a bit. The menu is the
same for every fed: -

consist of English). There's a green box at the bottom right
which you should pay attention to; this is the show's target in terms of

you'll end up picking last anyway).

The Options Of Match Maker

You'll have 3 options when you access the mode. Your options are...

1. Season Play - Book 12 months of cards in hopes of having a successful career
as a promoter.

2. Competition Play - The sandbox mode of Match Maker. Book the card of your
dreams using the full roster of the game with the aim of creating the highest
scores and drawing as many as possible.

3. Rankings - View the top 5 rankings for both Season Play and Competition mode.


Basically your mentor will give you some tips as to how to book your card.

First option lets you view the results of your previous card, and the
second lets you view the top ranked shows you have booked thus far.

BOXER INFO lets you check the available roster for your matches. You
generally start off with a small weak roster, but as you proceed, your
roster improves... but so will your match targets! TITLE INFO is fairly
obvious; it shows you who is the current title holder for your fed. Note
that titles here do not reflect who is holding the title in TITLE MATCH
mode. Changes in title holders here do not change title holders in TITLE
MATCH mode.

-=BOOK CARD=-
Upon selecting this you'll see that same window that appears in SHOW INFO
part of the INFORMATION menu. Press () to start booking your card. In the
next menu you'll see blank slots for matches; the number of matches may
vary depending on the card. Here pressing /\ (and answering YES to the
menu that appears) allows you to randomly book matches; but then again
that totally defeats the purpose of this mode so skip that. The [] Button
deletes a booking, in case you made any booking mistakes. Highlight the
top left corner of a match slot and press () to start booking matches
proper.

Once you select a match to book, you'll first see the MATCH STYLE menu;
all the match types you saw in Exhibition Mode is available for booking
here except for the 5 on 5 elimination. Pick a whatever match type you
want. Then you can select your boxer and set match options (though a
lot of these options are grayed out). To select Title Matches, first
select a Title Holder (press [] at the character select to see who has
a title to defend) and then the challenger; an option will pop up asking
whether you want it to be a title match or not. That's that for booking
a match.

Repeat the above to fully book your card. IF you highlight the top right
corner of the match slot and press () you can swap matches around the card
if you wish. You can press SELECT to view your show info again. Once you've
finished all your booking, press START to confirm. Note that most shows
have certain requirements that must be incorporated into your booking; you
cannot continue if you haven't settled those requirements. While it's
difficult to tell what these requirements are if you can't read Japanese,
you can create a random card (using the /\ button) and try to figure out
what these requirements are from these; cards booked using the /\ button
always satisfy booking conditions.

There, you've booked your very first boxing card! Easy, right?

-=START SHOW=-
Not much to say here. Obviously, you can only select this once you've
booked your card. In order to get good ratings, you'll should try to play
every match you've booked; player & computer-controlled boxers often give you
really rubbish matches.

When your show starts, press /\ to get to a menu of four options. First
lets you start your match, second lets you look at the match conditions,
third is to save the game and exit, and fourth exits the mode. Start a
match; you can choose to play as any side, and match options can still be
altered before the match.

Once all the matches are done, you'll get a final result, and your mentor
will praise/berate you for your performance. Then you move on to the next
show, with tougher booking conditions and even higher targets to achieve.

Notes: Match Maker Mode is basically like a Create A PPV but more advanced like in the Fire Pro Wrestling Series. It can be used for both Offline & Online mode. That is were Spectator Mode kicks in effect, so that the opponent that you face in the future can see what he can do with his training tactics to come with a gameplan when you & your next opponent clash later down the road.


16.2.6 Record Mode

Record mode keeps track on how many times your boxer wins, loses & draws. The records will determine if your deserving for a title shot. And It's basically like a ranking system, and where you stack up in the rankings for both Offline & Online.

I think the Fight Night series is heading in the right direction by attempting to add sliders. It's a good and needed improvement to a franchise that many fans were asking for sim like gameplay, now you can make the game you want to play. I just wish the there was a slider for arm fatigue. Here are some Sliders I hope EA puts in Round 5...yes, I'm talking Fight Night Round 5 already.This is when they do the planning and deciding what goes in the game. EA needs to give us Sliders,Tendencies, and Deeper options.

9Dragons is a martial arts MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game), published by Korean game company Indy21 and remastered for the Western Market for Acclaim Games by American author Steven-Elliot Altman. This game features 3D graphics and traditional MMO controls. The game actual has a Chinese geography and historical features like the Great Wall of China and the famous Shaolin Temple.

A player may join clan in 9Dragons are based upon various schools of Kung Fu and are separated into two major factions, The White Clans (loyal to the Imperial Emperor) and The Black Clans (who have no allegiance to him). The White Clans include: Shaolin (male disciples only), Wu-Tang, and The League of Beggars.....

This game could easily be a multi-million dollar game. I hope acclaim brings 9DRAGONS to consoles like Playstation 3 and the XBOX 360. This game could make millions because martial arts media is very popular. The old classic movies are huge sellers still to this day. Acclaim should merge with Shaw brothers to use some of it's characters. This game is really under the radar and not many people actually know it exist.

A week ago I was invited to see the”Tyson”biography movie New York Premiere by EA’s Community Manager Alain”sk88z”Quinto. I was very excited that he would pick me to go. I am a huge Mike Tyson fan. Just to go to this Red Carpet event was probably one of the most memorable experience to happen to me in my life.

The day of the event came quickly. I was doing a lot of rushing to get ready. I was going to wear a light brown pin striped suit. Alain e-mailed me while I was getting ready and said he wanted me to meet him in his hotel room before the event. It was a rainy ride into New York from New Jersey. The traffic wasn’t that bad so the trip was fast. When I got to the hotel I went up to Alain’s room. We had a couple of hours before the event. We talked about the game, the Fight Night community, and the event that night. Rob”Wepeeler”Smith called to tell us he was on his way. When Rob had got there, Alain did a quick interview with us, then he ordered something for us to eat. Brizzo came to the room while we were eating. I was excited because the hotel television had MSG boxing classics on. I wanted to see Brizzo’s boxing knowledge come into play. Brizzo was sharp! We all talked about 20 minutes…and then it was time to go. We split two cabs, Alain and Rob had taken a cab first; Brizzo and I shared the next cab to the theater.

We reached the movie theater and then went into the lobby. We hung in the lobby as the different celebrities came in. I saw Joe Frazier before anyone. He had on a dark suit with his trademark cowboy hat. Joe Frazier shook my hand at least 3 times that night. I saw Ice T, Anthony Anderson, Rosie Perez, Christopher Walken, Sway (MTV), Egypt (radio personality), and quite a few other celebrities. Tyson and his family came late.
As I watched Tyson come into the theater, I was amazed at how happy he was. He had his youngest daughter in his arms. She looks to be about 5 months old. Tyson shook hands with many of the guests and had taken pictures with some. I just observed Tyson. I wanted to see him outside of what the media fed me. He looked at me a couple of times but I didn’t approach him because he had so many people around him.
It was time to see his biography. The main event we all went in the room where it was being shown. I had shaken Tyson’s hand as I went into the theater. Everyone settled in and heard a brief intro from the Director, James Toback.
The movie went more into things I had already knew, but I was happy to actually hear them from his mouth. This movie had me actually feeling sorry for him but Tyson didn’t want pity. He wanted everybody to see who he was uncut and uncensored.
Tyson talked about his trainer Cus and started breaking down as he spoke. I got emotional too, because my trainer never seen me turn pro. It seem like Tyson was examining his life as he was talking.
After the movie ended, Tyson and the Director answered questions from the attendees. Tyson was humbled by exposing himself to the world in this biography. I was shocked when he told us his children had watched the film in another room across from us. I now have a new found respect for Tyson other than his skills.
The event ended with a after party. I had a great time. I can’t wait to get invited to another event. I can’t express my gratitude to EA and Alain.

Fight Night Round 4 producers have put in work on its boxers styles this year. It was evident when I saw the game in action. As a former fighter I know certain styles can be important going into a match. People identify boxers with what they do in the ring.

A person knows Tyson’s side to side movement or Muhammad Ali’s shuffling. Tyson had a quick brawler style, while Ali had an outside boxing style. Ali would dance around keeping you on the end of his jab.


When I first started boxing I wanted to fight like Tyson. I wanted to be just as quick and explosive. My trainer (my uncle) deflated that thought. He would tell me that no two fighters’ fight identical. He gave me bits and pieces of different styles. He taught me to be a boxer (outside fighter) sticking and moving, he taught me how to be a good counter-puncher; I would hook after I slightly parried a jab. Then he taught me my inside fighting, getting inside, moving my head and taking control. He told me a fighter’s style will evolve over time.

I know that EA had 8 base styles, but it was hard for me to say one boxer fits to just one style or template. You have someone like Billy Conn or Muhammad Ali. They worked off hand speed, reach, and footwork.

You have guys like Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson, and Archie Moore who were boxer-punchers who could fight in close range throwing combinations and they were able to knock you out. They also could fight you from outside.

Brawlers/Sluggers like Mike Tyson and Sonny Liston worked off of there punching power. Tyson wasn’t your normal brawler slugger, Tyson had incredible speed.


Then, you have the inside fighters. Some people call them swarmers or pressure fighters. They love fighting on the inside moving their head hitting your body and throwing to your head.

There are so many possibilities with styles and I’m glad EA’s Producers did their homework.
What style will you use? There's 8 Base Styles
Conventional Boxer: A boxer that sticks to the fundamentals and tries to set things up with the jab.

Unconventional Boxer: A boxer that eschews the fundamentals for a more dynamic approach.

Slugger: A roughhouse power puncher that likes to throw bombs, thinks the best defense is a good offense.

Brawler: Another power puncher, but one that shows more defensive ability.

Counter Puncher: A slippery, in-the-pocket defensive style fighter.

Boxer-Puncher: A boxer that takes a conventional approach to setting up his big punches at medium distance.

Inside Fighter: A close range boxer-puncher that moves his head and tries to control the ring and work the body.

Outside Fighter: A stick and move fighter that focuses on keeping the opponent at the end of their punches.



Two months to go and our styles will clash.

The day of the flight to Vancouver,Canada was big for me,I haven't flown since 1992. Flying is not my forte'. I have turned down numerous trips with my wife on planes. I just had to get rid of my distrust in flying and make this Fight Night Round 4 Community Event. I was on the plane saying to myself this trip better be worth it(even though it was paid for..lol).

I had to catch two planes, I got on another plane in Seattle,Washington that was delayed because the pilot said, they forgot to tell him the other plane was broken...fear set in, but I wouldn't let my fear take my mind off this event. Once, I reach Vancouver customs had me in line for about an hour. When I got up to customs I got drilled by the customs agent wanting to know why would EA want me there? The agent even called Alain to confirm why I was there. I caught a cab from the airport.

When I got to the hotel I met Alain and his wife and then I met Rich Reed from Xboxsolution.com, we talked for a while and then I went up to my room to leave my things. I hurried back to the lobby because I didn't want to miss anything.I sat waiting to meet the different community leaders, as they came in we greeted each other and shared stories.

Alain told us the schedule for that evening, we were all going to meet up at a Sports Bar called the G-Spot. Some of us met up in the lobby and shared a cab to the G-spot. I met more of the EA staff and other Community leaders I didn't see earlier that day. The Thompson brothers are wonderful guys. I talked a lot to both, but I talked more with John. He has this radio voice that makes you say WOW! John is as real as they come....back to the G-spot(Sports Bar) there was plenty of food and drinks to go around for everybody. I ate a salad, I'm vegan a big one too...lol.

The EA staff set up Fight Night Round 3 on two monitors. I played four games I won 2 games, I was rusty(yeah..that's it...lol). I was in the background watching Mandy(the lone female) hand a couple of the guys there losts( I think she is a hustler) I thought Mandy was a little kid in the bar, because she looked younger than she appeared. After more talk about boxing and Fight Night some of us went back to the hotel...It was a beautiful hotel I might add. We needed to get our rest for the next day.

The next day came and this was going to be a real eventful day. We started with a breakfast in the hotel with gaming and boxing talk. Tyrone(maxboxing) and me needed something from the store so we tried to rush out to get it. In front of the hotel Tyrone and me saw a jeep pull up and to our surprise it was Brian"Brizzo" Hayes, we quickly introduced ourselves and left.

About an hour later some of the EA staff and the community leaders all boarded a little bus that was going to take us to Griffin's Boxing gym. It reminded me of the times when my uncle use to pick me and city kids up before heading to the gym.

Inside Griffin's gym the community leaders filled out some paperwork and got dressed into the workout gear we were told to bring with us. I was very excited because this used to be my thing. I was a gym rat, I was the first in the gym and the last out. The excitement I had turned into exhaustion.
I was trying to do everything correct, but this extra person on my body said something different. While I was working out I happen to look up and there was "Sugar" Shane and Sergio Mora. I was excited because I remember him from the amateurs; I used to get his and Shannon Briggs first name mixed up at fights..lol. I talked to Shane about a fight in the amateur's he had with one of my team mates. It was fun reminiscing.

Everybody finished the floor workout,then the trainer for Griffin's chose three of us to spar Sergio Mora. I knew I was going to be one of the chosen three because the trainer stayed on me. I was excited because sparring was one of my favorite things to do in the gym. I got gloved up with pink gloves(stop laughing) and regular headgear.
I was the first up to spar Sergio Mora to the chant of Kimbo, Kimbo(you know who you are). It was fun, but my weight made me want to lay down in-between rounds. Mandy and Complex looked good in there with Sergio, even though Sergio had to tighten up a bit on Complex. Brizzo got in the ring for a couple round with Sergio too, Brizzo looked good in the ring.

After the gym we went to lunch at a nice restaurant. It had some great food, you could tell by how happy everyone was. The community leaders talked about the day so far and the day ahead.
We finished lunch and was on our way to EAC. I was amazed when we got to EAC, the building is huge. We went inside and went into a little conference room where Brizzo gave a presentation that made my mouth water. We were interrupted by Shane Mosley and Sergio Mora with a Q & A session,these two guys are honest and down to earth people. We talked to them for a while, then got back into the Fight Night Round 4 presentation with some questions being asked.

Alain gave us a tour of the EAC site. The EA facility is just as huge inside as it is on the outside. When went got back to the conference room, Alain and Brizzo told us we were about to play Fight Night Round 4. I was hyped beyond believe. I played the game for an hour and a half with Brizzo peeking in every once in a while making sure his baby was acting right. Alain told us that they ordered food for us so we went to eat in the conference room. While in the conference room I questioned and listened to Brizzo and Mike Mahar, these guy are passionate about this game. I played the game some more and came away very pleased.

I really enjoyed myself. Thanks you guys Alain,Brizzo, Mike Mahar and the rest of the EA staff. I enjoyed talking to you community leaders, this was my first event and I hope it wasn't my last. Keep in touch everyone.
I have always wondered why no company has made a game with martial arts characters from the seventies and Shaw Brother characters. They had some very colorful characters that were enjoyable to watch. All my brothers , our friends and me would sit excited watching these movies faithfully every time they came on and this was the norm in many households. We were amazed how the character/characters trained and perfect certain styles to defeat someone, it was incredible. I remember the scorpion vs. the lizard style... Wow! This was an incredible fight scene.

If a company would just sit down with some popcorn and watch these films, they would know it's a guarantee money maker. I know some will say, we have Tekken, Soul Calibur, and a hand full of knockoff games, but these games could never capture the essence of a Shaw Brothers or a late 70's,80's,90's type Martial Arts film.

There's so much that can be done with a Martial Arts film based game. There could be a deep create a character(Soul Calibur),create a style(Fighter Maker),deep training that your character can adapts to his/her style, RPG style game play(Dynasty Warriors). Some company needs to really do the knowledge on this idea. Go to YouTube and do a search for the Kid with the Golden Arms and Five Deadly Venoms, then tell me what you think.

Hey Fight Night Fans!


Okay, look, maybe we underestimated your appetite for details about Fight Night Round 4. Maybe we overestimated your desire to read anything about what the team thinks about Ali, Tyson or the sport of boxing in general. (Brizzo is still going to post more Fight Game commentaries though, he doesn't care!) Evidently, some of you are very anxious to hear some details about the game. In an effort to satisfy your hunger, we took a look at the list of questions that POETIC has been compiling in the forums and selected a bunch of the most common ones to provide a handful of answers to. Read on and then let's blow up the comments and forums.


The Roster
When will the roster be released?
When will you guys start dropping the Roster list?
Will [insert boxer name here] be in the game?

Jeff Atienza:
We will begin announcing the rest of the roster in late Feb/early March. We can tell you now it will be the biggest roster for any Fight Night game to date.

Legacy Mode
Is the Legacy Mode the same as career mode?
Is Legacy Mode another name for Career Mode or is it a deeper experience?
How in depth will the legacy mode be? In the past the career mode was kind of garbage.

Jeff: Yes, Legacy Mode is the name for Career Mode. Everybody on the team is aware of the shortcomings in FNR3's career mode. Mike Mahar and Raymond Lo are working hard to ensure Legacy Mode is a deeper and more authentic experience. It includes new training games, divisional rankings, multiple titles in each division and several other features that you will hear more about in the weeks and months to come.

Arcade or Sim
Will this be the best version of a boxing sim?
Will this be a sim game or more arcade? (sorry, gotta ask!)
Is FN4 going to be like FN3 where you could get Frazier and throw haymakers and parry all day, or does it actually require strategy?
Is the boxing going to be sim or arcadey? Please say sim!
How much will skill and strategy actually come into play when trying to win a match?

Brian Hayes:
I know you've heard this before, but we've rebuilt the engine from scratch. Our goal from the outset has been to create the most realistic boxing experience to date. The gameplay mechanics and AI have all been refined and improved to create a larger variety of styles and strategies you can use to be successful inside the ring. It's too early for us comment specifically on all the mechanics and details, but our objectives are to deliver more variety, excitement and authenticity to gameplay.


Referee In-Game
Will there be a referee in the game?
Will we get a referee inside the ring, like in Prizefighter and will it have a more active role in the fight?
Will there be a Ref in the Ring during the Fight?

Brian: Yes, there is a Referee present for the Pre-Fight Instructions and Post-Fight Results. Any time there is a Knockdown, a Point Deduction, Fight Stoppage or Disqualification he is a part of the action too. During the second-to-second flow of the fight the Referee is not visible. This is for a couple reasons: it allows us to use those resources to draw higher quality boxers and it prevents instances where the referee gets in your way.

Ring Entrances

Will there be entourages to accompany the fighter to the ring?
Will there be authentic entrances like Prince Naseem flying in on a carpet, or Tyson sporting the white towel?
Will each boxer come to the ring wearing their belts and their robes? (this is necessary for that authentic feeling)

Brian: Unfortunately, we aren't able to recreate all the theatrics and stagecraft used by some boxers. For example, there is no riding in on a white tiger and you won't be able to perform a live rap song on a stage with back-up dancers before your fight. However, you will see much more authentic ring entrances that include the trainer, the cutman, the chief second, robes, towels and championship belts.

I had to write this blog because it really irritates me that people want legends out of the Fight Night series.Please do me a favor, name 30 current fighters. I'm talking about exciting and entertaining fighters that casual fans(which a couple of you are) can name or recognized? It's really aggravating to keep hearing people say that they want current fighters and almost no legends if any. Boxing didn't start when you saw your first boxing match on TV. It should be an option to use legends. No one has to use them if they don't want to. Legends don't take spots from someone else either. I don't know what idiot made this up! If a boxer isn't in the game it is because of other reasons not because of a legend or some made up spot filling boxer. If EA wanted to they could add thousands of boxers. Do your research before you say something. If you don't believe me ask someone in the game industry. I did. A person with true knowledge of boxing knows there are different categories of boxers. You have the champions,contenders,up and coming,prospects,journeymen(can upset anybody),bums and legends. Having 30+ current fighters(name them) without anybody else would get boring and repetitive. Boxing greats should be optional adds to a career with a starting record.

If Visual Concepts handled a new boxing game would you buy it?

Many may say boxing is dying and it's not fun to watch any more,especially when you have to pay for many of the fights. Boxing isn't going to die anytime soon because you people who are always going to be watching for the next Big Thing. Many fans are looking for the next Tyson,Marciano,Sugar Ray,Chavez, etc; Believe it or not, virtual boxing is going strong even gaining a couple of fans wondering who is that guy I used or fought against in the game. Virtual boxing leaves boxing fans imagination open to matchups and being in control of a boxer or boxers destiny.

If 2K was to use Visual Concepts for another boxing game it would definitely drown that bad taste of a game Don King's Prizefighter Venom Games created. Visual Concepts has a good track record with games especially the NBA 2K series. NBA 2K is known for it's deep presentation and gameplay. I'm sure Visual Concepts would bring that same focus to a boxing game. I definitely hope 2K gives it another shot and this time use their in house designers. I'm sure fans would forget that other game 2K allowed their name to be put on. I love where the Fight Night series is going now,but competition brings better games. We saw how EA jumped out of nowhere with Fight Night Round 4 with all these incredible features.

I wonder why don't sports games deal with more advertisements of that sport. You have all these sports magazines,clothing appparel and equipment makers that could help on thier so called budget. Getting companies to advertise could give certain games an authentic look. Imagine having magazines like The Ring, Boxing Digest,etc; having your fighter in it. We would have more choices of brand name gear for boxers. I'm just throwing ideas out there as I think of them. If someone wants to add on you are welcome.

I have been trying to get the guys(I mean Steve) at Operation Sports to do an interview with these different companies(THQ, Codemasters,Midway etc; ) that have some type of fighting or boxing videogame history. Some of them made excuses about the technology and limitations of older consoles. Steve you got have insider connections. Ask questions to pc game creator of Title Bout Championship Boxing like...Why haven't they hooked up or came together with a company that could add top notch graphics to the foundation that they have set already? or ask THQ why haven't they even tried when they have wrestling down pat and have an interesting MMA(UFC) game coming out.This definitely would be a good story to get for the fans of this board. I'm hoping one of the writers see this blog and take this task?

Here are some companies that would be interesting to see what say....

Take Two- I know they endorsed that Prizefighter game(what were they thinking) I would like to know if they would make another game and put thier Visual Concepts guys on it. Venom Games did a horrible job.

GrandPrix- Victorious Boxers creator- Ask they why don't they make a international type boxing game with realistic looking characters. Their game is popular world wide. It would be logical.

These are just an example of the companies.
