Don't You Miss the Playoff Option?

With all the current (annual) fuss about the BCS ongoing still, let's take a break from reality and visit the digital football realm. Everyone remember the NCAA Footballs at the turn of the century where they had a playoff option as well as the bowl option?

Sigh.

That was just an incredible option to have and I thoroughly enjoyed playing out my fantasy with a playoff at the end of each year. Chances are, knowing how the NCAA operates, they probably caught wind of this feature being in the game and decided to mandate change with EA.

If not, and it was just a bad design decision, who here would love to see such a feature return? What other long lost features from the NCAA Football franchise would you love to see return?

How would NCAA Football 09 rank the teams this year?

I just browsed an excellent post in the MaddenMania forums which basically compares how NCAA Football 09 ranks the teams compared to the real polls given the same results. Check out the results in the thread...the results could surprise you (but probably won't):

EA Must've Visited the Big XII Offices

No really, think about it. A high powered offensive game where each game is a back and forth battle with ridiculous offensive scores. Sounds like the Big XII doesn’t it?

While I do agree that the game was geared a bit too heavy towards the offense — especially when it was released in July — this season has been another prime example how sometimes, truth is stranger than fiction.

If a gamer got a 61-41 final score in NCAA Football 09, most likely the gamer would’ve screamed at the top of his lungs that the game was too balanced towards the offense and it wasn’t realistic.

I’m going to issue a declaration, NCAA Football 09 is as realistic as your mind allows it to be. I’m not saying the game is an all-timer as far as quality goes, I’m just saying that the naysayers are probably in the crowd that would see a 61-41 final in NCAA and scream at the unrealistic results.

Sometimes, truth is stranger than fiction folks.

OS Yearly Awards Coming in December....

That's right, we're going to be passing out awards to which games were the best of the best in the sports genre this year. I'm not allowing myself to disclose which categories we will have (mostly because we haven't finalized a list yet) but I will say that 'Game of the Year' will most certainly be one award handed out.

Although my vote means very little to the big scheme of who wins the 'Game of the Year' award, I am pretty confident I know which game is going to be my pick. Going into the fall release season, I didn't think it was possible that I would pick any game BUT MLB '08: The Show.

The Show rekindled my love for baseball. It changed my life. Yet, here I stand...ready to crown another game the best of 2008. I played this other game so much, I am now in year 10 of my career...something I have never done before in a sports game. Thanks to a very good patch, I haven't played a better version of this game since the year 2003.

What game will be getting my 'Game of the Year' vote? None other than NCAA Football 09.

So what do you think? Am I absolutely an idiot? Or...do you agree with me? If not, what game was the best you played this year?
