Madden Fantasy Draft... help?
Posted on December 2, 2008 at 12:59 AM.
So once fall semester exams are behind us, my friends and I are planning to start a Madden 09 franchise. As the title of this entry implies, though, we're going to implement a fantasy draft. Anyone out in internet-land done one of these before? Any tips in general? Any suggestions as to how I should build my team?

You'll have a lot of fun with this, I bet. My roommate and I just started a two-team fantasy draft franchise (my Chiefs and his Cowboys). Haven't played our first game yet, but we have drafted.

Here are some tips:

• There are some very good quarterbacks available even in rounds 2-3. But sometime soon after that the CPU goes on a massive run on QBs. Get yours before this happens, or you will end up with Seneca Wallace starting (this actually happened to my friend who wanted to draft for his favorite team, the Saints).

• There is a lot of depth in the CB position. After getting your top two CBs, don't worry about drafting more until much later in the draft. Good corners will still be available very late.

• I would take a lot of offensive and defensive linemen early. These are the positions the CPU teams seems to hone in on. Plus, it makes running much easier and will allow you to put some pressure on your buddies' QB.

Other than that, just have fun! I ended up with Clinton Portis and Drew Brees on my team. My offense is probably the best in the league but my defense is near the bottom. That's okay, offensive shootouts are more fun anyway.
