The Madden 13 ratings for the Top 10 Overall RB’s have been named and one debateable omission from the list is that of Tennessee Titans RB Chris “CJ2K” Johnson. Ratings gurus have finally said “enough is enough” as Johnson posted career lows in yards, yards per carry, and touchdowns in 2011. Will the man dubbed CJ2K after his 2,006 yards rushing season in 2009 have the last laugh or have the ratings gurus got this one right? I’m backing the former NFL rushing champ.
Chris "CJ2K" Johnson will serve up humble pie to the Madden ratings gurus in 2012.
All reports coming out of Tennessee suggest Johnson is primed for a big season and I am on record as having him as the recipient of the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year Award this season. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has been covering the Tennessee Titans and had this to say when quizzed on Johnson.
“I’ve been stunned,” said Rapoport, “He looks like the Chris Johnson of old. … He’s fast, he’s in shape. Looks like he’s primed for a big year.”
Chris Johnson will play with a chip on his shoulder in 2012 spurred on by the doubters who have written him off after back to back to seasons that has saw his production drop off after his 2009 season. Nervous Titans management full well know that they signed off on the six-year, $55.26 million contract Johnson wanted and they (as well the fans) expect a return on their investment.
The crew behind the ratings at Madden HQ have long proven they’re a loyal bunch but at the same time their patience can be tested as is evidenced here in placing Johnson outside the Top 10. Peyton Manning, a perennial lock for the MVP award in Madden, missed an entire season and he remained in the Top 10 Overall QB list released last week. I believe they got Manning’s ranking right, I can’t say the same when discussing Chris Johnson.
I don’t predict CJ2K returns to 2009 version, though I fully anticipate seeing his name challenging Arian Foster for the 2012 NFL Rushing title this season. That’s right. I said it. I don’t doubt champion players; I won’t start doubting Chris Johnson. The guy is too talented. CJ2K will run with a chip on his shoulder and defensive coordinators will pay the price as well as resume having sleepless nights about #28 in a Titans uniform.
Humble pie is about to be served up this NFL season and the ratings gurus at Madden HQ are apart a long line of doubters who will be first served.
