Iowa slips past Chippewas 21-14

IOWA CITY - Greg Castillo returned a fumble 17 yards for a touchdown and Damon Bullock ran for a score as Iowa defeated Central Michigan Saturday in Kinnick Stadium. Castillo's fumble return in the 3rd quarter gave Iowa lead, and Bullock extended it later in the quarter. Iowa's Steve Bigach was credited with three sacks, including a forced fumble in the endzone that resulted in a safety. Central Michigan scored a late TD with 2:06 remaining in the game, but their comeback bid was spoiled when punt returner C. Wilson fumbled a punt with 26 seconds left in the game. Iowa's Kevin Buford recovered the muffed punt to seal the victory for now 2-1.

Iowa opens the Big Ten with 3-1 Minnesota coming to town next week. The Gophers are coming off a 40-6 whipping of the Syracuse Orangemen.
