Gentlemen, start your E-engines? All the questions and banter about who has got the better stick skills? Who runs what position better? Well, now it’s time to put your time, effort and job title where your mouth is. NBA 2K has taken another step towards the forefront of sports gaming with the release of its eSports model.

Set to debut in 2018, each NBA franchise will have the opportunity to draft individual gamers based on skill and ability, forming five-man teams to compete in an NBA/NBA 2K union that could change the way we play forever. Some think that 2K hasn't lived up to the hype the last few years in terms of supporting its eSport, and working on this new partnership behind the scenes could be a reason why. Based on things I've read, the Bucks, Grizzlies and Warriors have all made significant investments and are likely to lead the pack in this new league.

From the conversations had, it sounds like season one will last about five months. The goal seems to be to expand and create real life work opportunities, which is encouraging for someone who may be straddling the fence about whether the opportunity is legit. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver spoke about the potential for the pilot: “The popularity of NBA 2K with the young and growing eSports community provides a unique opportunity to develop something truly special for our fans and the gaming community. We look forward to combining our best-in- class NBA team operators with Take-Two’s competitive gaming expertise to create a brand new league experience.”

While we recently featured the 90s title Mutant League Football in our Throwback Thursday, it's the kind of game that can always use further exploration. Luckily, the newest episode of web series 30 For Nerdy, who last brought us the tale of spacey hockey goalie, uses clips from both Mutant League Football and Mutant League Hockey to reflect on the rise and fall of the post-apocalyptic league through the eyes of super-human linebacker Gory Guts and league founder, businessman Stan Whippleman. It's a tale filled with trolls, skeletons and devious tactics both on and off the field that you might want to check out before a new generation of the Mutant League is born.

Previously revealed last month, PlayStation VR support for DiRT Rally is scheduled to arrive today, featuring an innovative new co-driver mode. The PS VR update comes PS4 Pro optimized, with many graphical improvements.

An introductory offer for the DLC runs through February 28, where you can pick up the entire PlayStation VR bundle (2D game, PS VR upgrade, Fully Loaded DLC Add-on packs) for $43.39. If you already own the game, it costs $12.99 for the DLC upgrade.

Quote:
Whether it be racing through the forests of Finland, climbing the iconic Pikes Peak International Hill Climb course, or going bumper-to-bumper with other supercars in the FIA World Rallycross Championship, you can do it all with your PlayStation VR headset on. Every track, stage, car, and discipline is available for PS VR users — there’s nothing off-limits when it comes to immersing yourself in Dirt’s off-road racing world.

The co-driver is one of the most crucial elements of rally. Imagine: you’re racing on a cliff-side and about to throw your car around a blind corner, with only your co-driver’s pacenotes providing you an idea of what lies around the next bend. You need those calls to be well-timed, clear, and reliable. Well, we’re literally putting those calls in your hands. Or, rather, the hands of Player Two.

That’s right — featuring a new co-driver mode, a second player can be entrusted with the important responsibility of sending the right calls at the right time. Press the wrong button at the wrong time, and your rally pilot won’t have a clue about what to expect from the next few turns. However, get the timings right from the social screen, and the calls will be delivered crisply and cleanly to the person in the driver’s seat.

After the end of each stage, an accuracy rating will be given too — so there’s nowhere to hide if your coordination is off or your reactions aren’t quite quick enough!

Last week, 2K and the NBA announced a new eSports league featuring 8-12 teams of five players apiece owned by actual NBA franchises. The concept certainly seems cool, with games being broadcast online and players earning a full-time living while playing through an 82 game season.

There are some questions as to logistics and even if the whole thing can actually work -- but its certainly an exciting prospect and direction sports games could go in.

But what do you think? Do you think the NBA/2K partnership in an eSports league is something worthwhile?

Sound off by voting in the poll and then leave a comment with your thoughts!
