Last year, Madden 16 introduced Draft Champions, a mode that mixed the team-building aspect of Ultimate Team with the tension of the NFL Draft. Basically, you take a roster full of mediocre players, and through a 15-round draft you attempt to make the necessary upgrades.

Unlike your team, the mode itself hasn't seen many significant improvements this year. It remains relatively the same as its last update in Madden 16. This is more noticeable, in my opinion, because of the changes MLB The Show 2016 made to the formula in its own Battle Royale mode.

UPROXX has posted their NBA 2K17 hands-on impressions and talk about the controls and the importance of your stick skills this year. They also go over the new shot aiming system.

Quote:
“Let’s say you start this little cool move and you want to break out at that moment in time,” Jones says. “The animation had launched and there were specific branch points where you could get out, but as a user, you wanna get out when you want to get out. This year, we took all of that — what we felt like — canned stuff and was (sic) like look: ‘as a user, you can still recreate it.’ The animations that make up that guy’s dribble package, are signature. But if you wanna create that situation that he specifically does, it’s on your stick skills.”

That emphasis on a user’s “stick skills,” specifically how they’re able to move their player in a fashion similar to how they would in real life, is now augmented. You are controlling all of the player’s movements instead of just most of them. There’s no jumping off point where you’re left the manipulations of what they’ve already programmed for that player at that time in the game.

Most games only do release stuff on jump shots. Jones compared it to pulling a bow and arrow: you pull it back to the right tension and then release it. That release timing has always been there for NBA 2K jump shots, but now they’ve added aim, so “you can actually aim left-right on the shots.”

Football is a passing game. Despite the Denver Broncos riding a dominant defense to their third Super Bowl ring, the majority of playoff teams last year fielded offenses with potent aerial attacks. Whether it be Tom Brady's precision attack or Carson Palmer connecting on big plays, the rules in the NFL favor the pass. How does this relate to Madden? Quite simply, it doesn’t. Madden has always favored the pass as its primary means of racking up yards, but Madden 17 moves towards balance, albeit, in a good way.

As sports gamers, the one thing many of us look for in the titles we choose to play is the realism of the game. How does the real-life game translate over to its sim title? Does the gameplay feel the same as what we get to watch on TV? How do the graphics look?

One thing that many of us as sports gamers also look at is the fidelity of the game, and how it is presented to us while we play. From pregame setup and intro, to the atmosphere and emotion during the game -- including crowds, proper play-by-play/color commentary and teammate reactions -- to stat overlays and player information, to halftime (if applicable) and postgame shows/information.

EA has changed up a lot of how the running mechanics work in Madden NFL 17. There is now more depth and more to recognize with this year's game, and some players have moves others don't.

The first thing you need to realize is that you need to run to your player's strengths.

For instance, a big bruiser of a running back won't be as effective with the juke and spin vs. the truck and stuff arm. Making sure you are playing to your back's strength's will ensure you a bit more success when you go to your special moves.

Another thing to keep in mind is that some backs are not going to be good as others in performing moves. A player with higher special moves ratings will perform much higher quality moves versus those with lower ratings. Thus, it does pay to invest some of your salary cap space (or your actual salary if we're talking MUT) to a better back this time around.

Each move you use does take up some stamina so that's something else to keep in mind.

There are also modifiers for ball carriers which will have different effects upon the game:
  • Standard (No Modifiers) - What it sounds like, standard moves.
  • Speed (RT/R2) - Shorter and quicker moves, they don't move your ball carrier off their current path.
  • Precision (LT/L2) - Longer and more deliberate moves which can be used to successfully fake out a number of players.
  • Steerable (RT/R2 + LT/L2) - These moves allow you steer your special moves with the left stick. These moves influence defender pursuit angles. Only works with Truck, Spin, Juke, Back Juke.
Utility Moves

These moves consist of the 'other' moves which aren't steerable and give you the ability to do a few different items.
  • Ball Carrier Give-Up – LT+RT / L2+ R2 + Square/X
  • Celebration Run – LT+RT / L2+ R2 + A/X
  • QB Slide – Tap X/Square or LT+RT / L2+ R2 + Square/X

What else are you finding out about the running moves in Madden NFL 17? Share your findings and tips you've found to be working!

Critically acclaimed franchise to give fans early start to this year’s MyCAREER experience, ability to play collegiate games and more!

2K today announced “The Prelude,” a free downloadable experience for NBA 2K17, the top-rated and top-selling NBA video game simulation series*, which will be available on September 9, 2016. For the first time in NBA 2K history, gamers – both new and old – will get to start their MyCAREER experience prior to the game’s launch on September 20, 2016 on Xbox One and PlayStation®4 computer entertainment systems. Gamers who download “The Prelude” will choose from multiple authentic Division I collegiate programs and have the ability to boost their stock for the NBA Draft. Additionally, “The Prelude” experience will include enhanced MyPlayer personalization through new mobile phone face scan technology via the MyNBA2K Companion App, and an all–new tutorial mode in 2KU, featuring 2016 USA Basketball Coach Mike Krzyzewski (“Coach K”).

“The Prelude was designed specifically to introduce new fans to our franchise, and give them an introduction to our legendary MyCAREER mode that puts the user at the center of an epic basketball story,” said Greg Thomas, President of Visual Concepts. “Veterans of NBA 2K will also love getting a head start on their MyCAREER, so when the game launches they can be ready to jump in and compete.”

During “The Prelude”, players will watch their draft stock fluctuate dynamically based on their performance across the participation of multiple authentic college games. In true cinematic form, they’ll also catch a glimpse of exclusive MyCAREER scenes through their customized avatar, which include interactions with high school coaches, teammates, and more. Players’ in-game performance during college play will ultimately influence where they are drafted upon entering the league in NBA 2K17.

“The incredible excitement during the first week of NBA 2K16’s launch showed us there was an opportunity to connect with even more fans prior to the formal release of NBA 2K17,” said Alfie Brody, VP of Marketing for NBA 2K. “We think we’ve given our passionate community something special with this year, and can’t wait to see the response from not only existing fans, but new ones as well.”

Included in “The Prelude” is 2KU, a tutorial featuring Coach K, focused on fundamental basketball strategies including pick and roll execution, proper defensive positioning, ball movement, boxing out, court awareness and more. Gamers can also use the MyNBA2K17 iOS and Android companion app to scan their facial likeness into their MyCAREER avatar within minutes. This new mobile phone camera fan scan technology serves as the perfect introduction to the custom experience, as players begin playing MyCAREER. Additionally, after September 16, 2016 gamers will be able to purchase and download playable “all-time great” teams for each of the playable colleges as well as special collegiate MyTeam cards representing legendary players.

Madden NFL 17 is sure to bring much debate about the direction of the series, but let there be no doubt the game has certainly planted itself as a serious contender for more casual football fans' hearts.

This year, Madden has added several new features that basically hold any newer user’s hand to virtual pay dirt. From the way the new auto-running moves function to the continued increase of on-screen feedback, Madden is working very hard to win over new fans' hearts while simultaneously deepening the love from existing fans with more and more simulation depth.

Owen Good from Polygon has just posted his hands-on impressions of NASCAR Heat Evolution with quite a few interesting details. Check it out and post your thoughts. The game releases on September 13 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Quote:
The previous editions of NASCAR-licensed games, developed by Eutechnyx, had drivers racing on rails and accelerating or braking within them. "This is a very racy AI," Wilson said, mentioning that the EA Sports games had three AI lines that all drivers adhered to. NASCAR Heat Evolution has none. Drivers should drive where they would in that situation in a real race.

"You just always knew where they're going to be," in earlier series, Wilson said. "We really wanted a race at Talladega, in our game, to pack up like in real life."

That also means the potential for a Talladega-class wreck. I didn't see many AI driver errors, much less ones leading to a major pileup.
